Welcome to our series of videos on Fiber Mill Processing Equipment!
We are Chris and Teresa of Shepherd Industries and we want to give you a little background into what happens in our fiber mill at the Nome Schoolhouse in Nome, North Dakota.

In this video we talk about the 2 carding machines we have in the mill, their different jobs and how they work to card wool into beautiful roving, batts or cloud.
We process all the fiber from our flock of sheep and use it to make a variety of products such as needle felting kits, yarn, spinning roving and felt products.

Super job, Chris! I develop a very modern plant with last generation carding machines and believe that the principles or the C75 Rieter are quite the same you've explained. Lovely Job! I enjoyed the explanation!

Wow! Glad you spoke of maintenance because I got so curious about that. How do you manage static? Humidity levels? Do you vacuum or air blast ever? You have such an amazing ‘tech’ side Chris!

Our partial basement location does the job of keeping humidity up there!!! We have gone thru many shop vacs over the years!!🤣

How do you control humidity in your Mill?

In our old location we used a swamp cooler we called it. A Porta a Cool machine that kicked out tons of humidity in very short order. Now the new mill is in a partial basement so it stays a beautiful 80% humidity most days! Just our constant dyeing and washing dies the job now!
