field system is our ultra-portable sound recording and performance system. all battery-powered, rechargeable via usb-c, with full interconnectivity (midi and high resolution audio) and universally compatible, it's the most powerful, highest quality, portable audio system in the world. alto-soprano captured using CM-15.

Apple products honestly aren't that overpriced anymore, especially the apple silicon laptops which for 999 have incredible battery life, good build and outperform comparable Windows notebooks. The non-pro iPads too are well built and affordable. The only things apple makes that are definitely overpriced now are certain “pro” products, definitely the Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR as well as the accessories for them, but those are targeted towards workplaces, movie and design studios, not consumers. They’ve definitely stretched the pro name to things that are consumer focused like AirPods but yeah, apples consumer pricing isn’t that bad anymore for what you get. TE's stuff is absolutely much more focused on being luxury and niche products than Apple which is unfortunate. I remember when TE launched the OP1 at 799 and people said it was overpriced back then, I don't think it was given that they were a new company and the build quality and tech were ahead of the rest of the competition but now it's inexcusable for them to be charging 1400 for the exact same product and 2000 for the sequel.

Hmm. A Zoom H4n, Bastl Bestie, and Shure SM 57 (or 58) would run you about $500. Would this be as pretty? No. But for $3300 less I'll take it.
@Softlol
@Softlol 9 ай бұрын
I forgot bastle made an upgrade from dude. But you can’t compare it to TX-6… The Bestie has no effects, no save to USB among many other features the TX-6 have… Sure its 1/4 of the price, but you lose so many features
@lostlanguag.es_
@lostlanguag.es_ 8 ай бұрын
honestly the zoom h4n and shure combo will not sound great - noisy preamps on the zoom and a 57/58 is the wtftj. it's absolutely fine for learning (i cut my teeth on an H5) but it will run its course in a few years. an sd mixpre 6 and a pair clippies won't cost that much more and will be WORLDS better as a field kit. as for the TP-7 and CM-15, sexy as hell but i'd want to see specs before i compare it to pro or prosumer field gear.

@@lostlanguag.es_ „won’t cost that much more“? Are you kidding me?
@lostlanguag.es_
@lostlanguag.es_ 7 ай бұрын
@@dominicstocker5144 i totally get the hesitation, but it really wouldn't be *that* much more.. it certainly wouldn't be anywhere near $3300. clippies will run you about $125 for a matched pair. the SD will cost around a grand. if you don't need/want the extra channels, you can do a mixpre 3, which is around $900. and lots of people like the zoom F series; i haven't tried it so i can't say. i *have* extensively used an H5 and others in the H series, and just found in the end it was a bit too noisy and needed to trade up. the way i encourage students to think about it is like buying a camera body (the recorder/preamps) and a lens (the mics). the clippies are a great, cheap "lens," similar to DPA 4060s at about 1/10 the cost (obviously not totally on par with DPA, but the EM272 is a great capsule). At $125, if you need to level up, or get something with a more dedicated function (shotgun, etc.), you can do it without it hurting too much. the difference between an H series recorder and mix-pre (or zoom F series) is night and day, though, so it all depends on how soon you want to change up the "body" if you end up becoming a serious hobbyist. but, it'll definitely be fine for a few years. my biggest gripe in the initial comment was the SM 57/58, which is just the wrong tool for the job. also, i was comparing $500 v $1000 v $3300. ymmv! 🎧🌲🦗

Remember when the op-1 launched for 799? The build quality of their products has not gotten better, I’ve used the op-1 field quite a bit, it feels basically the same and after ten years of manufacturing and understanding how to mass produce their products and work within supply chains for parts, the op-1 should not be nearly double the price it was at launch and the field is ridiculously overpriced given the actual tech inside and no major advancements in build.
