June Update Notes: Social Battery Grey, Green & Blue got buffed, while Grey is usable now, I don't think Social is really a 'filler' chip and my recommended slots for Social Battery remains the same, personally I didn't need more motivation to put it on Blue! I tried to stress this in the video, but field upgrades decks are really personal and playstyle dependent. The chipset deck you make for yourself will always be better than one you copy down, my goal for this video was to layout a framework and ways to think about these chips. I honestly think Social Battery is the best purple chip. When you don't have it, you can always heal with food, vials and bathrooms, and when you do have it, the increase from purple is just so much more compared to the other colours and compared to the increase all the other chip options get. On the other hand, Hack speed is something I'd value at any other colour than purple, because having it early just boosts your overall game speed, and having it on gold can be what gets you to the case without keycards before other players.

I actually like using high level cover speed for hit and run playstyles.

I actually do Gold Cover and Purple Expertise on Larcin for a very specific reason: steal order. Yes, Blue Cover is enough to get cover back while invis and full sprinting away, but I don’t necessarily want to put myself inside a guard room. With Gold as Cover, I am nearly guaranteed to get it first after a pickpocket. Let’s also say I pick a bad target and I just exposed myself to an E3 Octo. I can’t poof away out of cover, so being able to run around a corner and hide for under a second allows me to make my escape when I otherwise would be unable to. The difference between Purple and Gold Expertise on Larcin E1/3 is about nine seconds. I don’t mind waiting nine seconds longer to do my usual Larcin shenanigans. Aside from that, I feel you can live without intel capacity, especially if you have high hack speed. Also, Gray ammo is nice for Larcin and Sasori, who are often starved of ammo in order to balance them out.

Great video with valuable insight on each chip. Agreed each deck is totally dependent on each players personal style. I remember using ammo on green for a while only because some spys I tried had terrible ammo economy, but then weapons get balanced all the time so now I either skip it or shove it into Grey. Hp chip I flipflop between blue and gold. Think my favorite chip to meme is food on gold because it is hilarious eating in the middle of a fight as Chavez with perk 2 and having 140ish hp.

Great breakdown! I feel like there is some nuance missed on hack speed though, specifically in the situation where gathering intel is still relevant to open doors you don't have keycards for. I find that being able to get intel while not having to stop walking is very valuable to not stick out from the NPCs, so I would be curious to know which types of intel that's possible for per chip tier. I'm a fellow purple hack chip addict so I haven't experimented with this lol

I use Hack Speed as my gray chip for all of my builds because (to me) the overall efficiency of having 25% extra hack speed for all 3 phases is better than having 50 or 60% extra hack speed for the last 2 phases, especially since -most hacking occurs in the Insertion phase (unless you kill someone who did all the hacking for you) -using a purple/gold hacking chip is only 33/53% faster than using a gray hacking chip, since you have to consider that using gray hacking speed allows you to put a different chip in the higher value spot -keycards and taking chips from dead players make the Hack Speed chip less relevant as the game progresses edit: purple & gold hacking chips are much faster when compared to the gray chip than I initially gave them credit for, so they are objectively quite valuable to the Package Carrier. I guess the difference between field upgrades is actually pretty minimal, and they just provide a cool form of customization for how you play the game, just like how Agents can swap all of their abilities and weapons.

you know, i never thought about how i usually have hack speed on purple but it quite literally IS double dipping.. i never thought about how it doesn't really make sense to have hack speed on purple because the highest chip color (from a safe) is purple lol and it would only be fully useful to grab more intel (assuming you have the package).. and having keycards is another way of proving that hack speed on purple is useless lmaooo.. it's a good idea you thought of that!

Hello Mr 1st glitch, I was wondering if you could try cav E3 again. I’ve noticed that with guards being “on it” this season, people are killing them a lot more. What I’ve been doing is putting down tripwires and stuff to make them freak out/break cover, panic, then you come in and investigate the bodies or their holo-crumb if they switch and bam.

The interesting thing with hackspeed is that you're calculations assumed that you had the chip speed right from the start (because you're applying it to all intel not all intel since you get the chip) but I do think that is counteracted by the fact that if you put hackspeed higher you have faster hackspeed in the later part of the game (even if you take longer to get it) which I feel is more valuable for the vault, getting through doors, hacking printers, and the package than having it early game to save you a few seconds to get a gold or purple chip Also I have been thinking about health chips and how much they actually help for a while now. I do kind of want to make a spread sheet of all of the different combos and health chips but that also seems a little daunting. I know that part of that is just complexity and scale (I should probably just start with base weapon damage and not worry about all of the status effects like heat, vulnerable, resistance, what happens with different food chips and amount of food, red heal, chaves over-health or grey healing and so on (and honestly one of the reasons I love this game is because of all of those small interactions)) but it would be nice to know that other people in the community would also like to see a spread sheet of this and if you'd like to see it, that would give me a lot more motivation to do it.

of course they had to buff the first 3 socials a week AFTER this video ... I'm now testing social on Green and blue and they feel fine, and since the increase doesn't have that much of a gap anymore, it can be worth using other things there now.
