Field Work: Elementary School Fire Alarm Test - Old Edwards Mechanical Horns!

Күн бұрынThis system certainly replaced an old Edwards conventional panel. Before the upgrade, only mechanical horns and heat detectors were in the system. After the upgrade, electronic horn/strobes were added, but the old horns remained. Smoke detectors were also added. The system does not sync, and due to the FWR the panel puts out, the mechanical horns sound gross.

0:01 I went to a summer camp last summer and instead of fire alarm horns or speakers or strobes, they have Edwards bells that are the same as the one at 0:01 next to the horn. They also have Edwards Pull Stations that activate the bells.

The model number of those horns is actually 881D-AW and there seems to be a 885D-AW there too.

It find it amazing how many fire tecs don't know the difference, In this building they should of had installed a BPS10A and ran everything off that. The town I live in does not allow FWR for bell circuits, So I see Edwards exps all the time.

Mechanical horn fire alarms get quite and gross on the FWR. The system only works on electrical fire alarms and bells.

Yeah the old Edwards Adapt a horns before he took down his videos you could see twoplyboy smacking quite a few of them in his bell test videos lol

More than likely that whooping sound is from a security system, (could be either the siren or one of the keypads) which the fire alarm panel is probably wired to trip on alarm. (even though last I checked that's against code)

@@DivanCello I've never heard of anything like that being done in any system so I wouldn't know if you're right or not. Seems kinda absurd to do that if the system already has alarms though.

The code 3 fire alarm is the wheelock exseader. And the continuous fire alarm is the wheelock AS.

These ones remind me of Faraday DC horns, including the ones under Siemens, especially the U-HNH? Seemingly more so for the late ones right before the Faraday plant went under. It did seem that a lot of the 4903-9219s and the like, sound similar to these. Joel Speck on YT, has a bunch of 4903-9219s, maybe another variant in his dorm video with the Simplex 4004 FACP.

Obviously I'm not the first to say this, but I think we can all agree that those horns sure sound terrible on FWR. On the contrary, the SpectrAlert classics surprisingly sound clean despite being powered on FWR (at least from what I could tell from this video)...usually they sound much more raspier than this on FWR.

Did you replace any devices on the system? I heard somewhere that FWR can kill devices.

Back then? Was this years ago? Plus I swear I heard a Classic SpectrAlert in there. And I'm a bit shocked they are using Wheelock AS-2415s instead of the newer ones with the strobe on top. There is a Dunkin near me that has one and my elementary school also had one which was the only code-3 horn in a sea of continuous 9219s. My old elementary had continuous rare FOS alarms and 1 code 3 wheelock Exeeder and I think 2 wheelock AS's also on code 3 and the detectors are system sensor 2400's and the pulls where simplex t bars (I don't know the model) so yeah confusing system.

The horns are very underpowered, do to the resistance they have vs what the panel can handle. the load is too Inductive. Simplex stuff like the 4009 Nac panel can handle very inductive loads.

This seems like it was done on the cheap... they replaced only a few devices and they don't even have the new alarms set on the same code. And FWR power is indeed very gross. Yuck.

I don’t think the system 500 outputs FWR. The Spectralert Classics sound fine. I think the horns aged horribly.

There are NAC boosters that are tied to the 500, that's what is powering this whole school, and what is putting out the FWR.

Wow that stuff old from the 1960s probley when Kennedy was presdent those alarms should be replaced and truealerts should be put in a new nice 4010 panel they need to get rid of that system and put in a nicer system that why those horns sound bad there old as hell
