Field Yates on Deshaun Watson, Jerry Jeudy, Nick Chubb, the Cleveland Browns & Donovan Mitchell

ESPN football expert Field Yates knows it all, and he's high on the Cleveland Browns heading into the 2024 season.
Yates says he's confident Kevin Stefanski will get a contract extension before the end of the summer, but he's not confident Deshaun Watson will return to elite status. Yates says if it doesn't happen this year, it may never happen.
Yates touched on a number of other Browns topics too, including Jerry Jeudy's contract, Nick Chubb's recovery from knee surgery, Myles Garrett, and Amari Cooper's fantasy value.
As an extra bonus, he gave us his thoughts on Donovan Mitchell's future with the Cavs too.

There is not enough to know if he fell off. Last 3 games he played before injury looked pretty dam good to me while being injured. I’m on the understanding train in that the last 2 yrs sucked for him. If you want to hate him bc the Tony buzzbee scam lawyer then hate him but be honest about it. Now if he’s trash after this season then okay I’ll shut my mouth but the organization has done a fantastic job all things considered. So quit your bitching. Also none of those ladies were forced to do anything if they don’t have a free will that’s on them. Is he a creeper probably but I wasn’t there didn’t witness anything and I seen some things from some of these ladies testimonies that just makes me question the whole dam thing

Deshaun didn't fall off, he didn't even play for almost a year and a half then got injured after he started to come around I'll take the 5-1 record at least it's positive and not negative. The contract was a good one to me because that year and half he missed, what if he'd played you think y'all would be calling him washed up?

I agree with field, it's very strange that watson has had such a noticeable falloff at such a young age. To go from top 5 qb to bottom 10 qb and still be I your 20's is insane.

It’s not strange when you think about the fact that playing QB is the hardest job in sports. He’s played it consistently for 15+ years, then have it taken away for the better part of almost 3 years without truly getting to play through it (injury and suspension) it makes too much sense. However this season there are no excuses, it’s now or never for DW4 IMO

If 4 plays more than 12 games I'll be shocked. Hopefully he learned something from watching Flacco last year about throwing to spots and trusting his receivers. If you wait until the receiver is open then it's already too late. He's predicted to pass for 4000+yds and only 8int. That would get us to the playoffs at least.

The liar that is Jay strikes again. Deshaun put more than a half of football together. I can't stand this goofball. Also this is not a put up or shut up year. They say this to keep a narrative going and HOPE that he fails. The Browns aren't moving on from Deshaun Watson. And they just can't get over it.

When field said "browns have as good of a roster as any other team besides the qb" sums it up perfectly. Sure maybe he has 6 or 7 good qtrs of football, but in no way has he been worth what we've gave up for him. "Middle of the pack" was very charitable from fields.

You just said 6 or 7 quarters which blatantly rebuttals what Jay said which was TWO quarters. But you're still being asinine about it and not telling the truth. At the end of the day, he was 5-1 last year, technically 4-1 and is 8-4 in the games he was able to play. That's called WINNING. That's what QB's are paid to do, along with winning a title. But you have to WIN first and foremost. He's been able to do that in his limited appearances.

If I told you he ranks 53rd in pff grade among qualified passers over the last two years and he ranked 38th in qbr over that time too. Then what would you say? Those are facts, that is dogsh1t. He ranked 29th in completion percentage last year. We win because of our defense, deshaun is not the reason they are 7-4 when he plays. Flacco was 4-1 and didn't cost us a quarter billion dollars and 3 first round draft picks. Baker clearly has been the better qb since the trade in every stat and more playoff success too. These are all facts don't mean I'm the one that's racist.

It's just not fair to judge a play for being rusty after not playing a year and a half with a suspension and injuries plus he played injured and still got a 5-1 record, if he ball out this year I don't want to hear a peep from anyone on this panel because this ain't fair at all Go Browns!!!

Well it would be nice to see the offense with some quick strike scoring this season. That has been SORELY lacking since Webster Slaughter...how long has that been? Half the fan base wasn't even born then. Id love to see an offense that pushes the ball down the field. There simply hasnt bren the personnel or the coaching staff to do that. This WR room is the fastest in maybe forever. But that style of play doesn't translate to winter on the lake. I would hope that they use a ball control short passing game with plenty of 20+ yard passing plays mixed in and Chubb chugging away with the ground game. Since they seem to be focusing on footwork then its probably short timing passes. Joe Montana used to say that if he did the footwork that its all timed off of his footwork. A 5 step drop would set him perfectly positioned to release the throw and the receiver would be right where the ball would go. 3 step drop for a slant pass,etc. If they are emphasizing footwork like Ive been hearing the its a good bet thats what the offense will look like this year. The pass opens up the run not vice versa ss its been the last 20 years. But one thing is certain... this Browns offense will have the speed to stretch the field. Speed that defenses HAVE to respect. No more 8 in the box. It shoud set Chubb up (if healthy enough) to have his best year as a Brown. He has been in the running fit for the rushing title every year except for last year. (Minka Fitzpatrick you cheap shotted him and you know it, we know it and the Browns definitely know it)Nick Chubb will win the Rushing Title AND Comeback Player of the Year and 18 TD. Watson will win League MVP with a 4000 yard season, 34 TD passes (God Id love to see that and watch how Watson Haters will either disappear or ir jump on the bandwagon). Juedy will have his best year as a pro with 999 yards and 10 TDs. Coop will have his usual 1000 yards and 14 TD. Njoko balls out with 1000 yards and leads all TEs with 15 TD. The defense is the #1 scoring defense with 23 take aways, Myles Garrett gets 19 sacks and Grant Delpit has 80 tackles, 3 INT, 3 sacks and finally the Browns D line gets 10 sacks from 2 DTs to lead the NFL to be the #1 Pass defense and the #7 Run defense. The Browns win the AFC North, get home field for the first round of playoffs then beat KC in KC to go to the Superbowl where they will defeat the 49ers 27-24.

I'm so sick of this argument about the trade. Whether it works out or not, it was obviously a good choice to do it. If you want to win a super bowl, you need a super bowl quarterback and that was the best chance to have it. We also Should stop asking if he's going to get back to texans form. We're never gonna need those numbers. We never going to need him to play that way. We have a great running back and a great running line. We have a fantastic defense. If dw can be better than a game manager then we have a super bowl caliber group. Not only that, but we have one of the best coaching rooms in the league, if not the best. People are missing the real questions and asking stupid shit about dw. Whenever I watch this show, I'm just reminded by their words: most of them have not played this game.
