Been listening to this song on and off for 27 years! One of my favourite songs of all time. No doubt. I find the whole thing curiously uplifting. I love the bit about two-thirds of the way through where it goes into double time. I've seen them only once, in a dingy club in Victoria Park, Manchester, late 80s. They were tremendous.

Trackstar2211 Here's another one from a proper old fart ! I served time with Nod (drummer) as an engineering apprentice at a British Aerospace company in SE England. He made it clear that he was going to be a rock star to anyone who would listen, especially our tutors. After a spell at university I saw him again at the Reading festival on the main stage warming up for the Mission. Good lad !! Awesome band. Proper music.

bubbanderson That's cool. Back in those days everyone bumped shoulders with everyone else. I was an apprentice with Petters in Staines before moving to Toronto. We saw a band every weekend, Beatles, Floyd, Santana, and on and on. Great times, but came here in 1977 so missed all those other great bands, Cure, etc. But we had an amazing radio station CFNY, a small outfit that played New Wave and Brit rock all the time, so I managed to say up to date.

Awesome. Sounds like you had a good time over here ! Sadly, the days when you could see bands everywhere have gone. I reformed an old band of mine a couple of years ago and checked out our old London haunts .. all closed. The biggest miscarriage of justice is the closure of the Rock Garden ... now the Apple store. Back in the day they would have 4 or 5 original bands on every night and 10 on a holiday.

bubbanderson Sad. Our hang out was the Lyceum Theatre just off the Strand. Saw Elton there when he was the back-up for Super Tramp (who were crap btw). This was around 1972. Or up at Finsbury Park. Saw Roxie Music there a couple of times. Also a great gig was in Guildford. T-Rex, Elton and on and on. Took me about 30 years before I saw Bowie in Toronto. My buddy says that there is some new bloke called David Bowie playing at the pub (The Toby Jug in Surbiton). I say that I am not interested and give it a pass (I think that was 1971). So I had to wait all that time for my favourite performer. Some good bands made it over here like ELO, Boomtown Rats NIN, and now Toronto is the same as any major city, but it's different that the old days, small gigs in small, hot, sweaty clubs with lots of beer. Most of the small places are disappearing here as well. They closed the El Mocombo, probably the most famous, where the Stones played. My son played there about a year before it was shut down, so I guest that is his claim to fame. Cheers.

This is fantastic music and it has a wonderful heritage - FOTTN were very influenced by Morricone, and you can hear it all throughout thier music. Morricone was influnence by a number of composers, the most important being Copland. It is wonderful to think of such waves of musical innovation moving forwards over these waves...

DEAR BILL HELLO, WHY YOU THINK THAT THIS WAS TERRIBLE.WE WERE VERY YOUNG BACK THEN AND IT DID NOT MATTER IF YOU WERE SPENDING THE WHOLE DAY TO GO TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CITY TO VISIT A FRIEND AND HEAR MUSIC.BUT THIS WAS A REAL PLEASURE. IT HAD A MEANING. WHAT IS THE ,MEANING TO HEAR MUSIC BY MP3 NOW. YOU DO NOT YEARN FOR SOMETHING. YOU DO NOT STRUGGLE TO GATHER A RECORD COLLECTION. EVERYTHING IS EASY AND IS BECOMING BORING THE VERY NEXT TIME. THE CLUBS BACK THEN WERE HOSTING A WHOLE COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE HEARING THE SAME MUSIC. MOST OF THEM HAD HEARD THEIR RECORDS A THOUSAND TIMES 9ALL THE SONGS),WERE MAKING HARD SAVINGS TO GET A VINYL OF THE SISTERS IMPORTED FROM ENGLAND. MOST ODF THE PEOPLE WERE KNOWNING ALL THE LYRICKS OF THE SONGS. I ALSO USE MP3 NOW , I ALSO DOWNLOAD A LOT OF MUSIC BUT IT IS NOT THE SAME. THE GROUPS NOW ARE BY FAR WORSE THAN THEN. ANYWAY I AM 45 OLD NOW AND IT WOULD BE A KIND OF RIDICULOUS TO PLAY THE GOTH FAN NOW IN A GOTHIC CLUB RIGHT NOW. NOWDAYS NOTHING SEEMD TOIMPRESS OR SHOCK PEOPLE. BACK THEN IT WAS SOMETHING SPECILA TO BE A GOTH FAN . IN THE SCHOOL THERE WERE ONLY 1-2 BAUHAUS FANS AND IN THE STREET EVERYBODY WAS LOOKING YOU WITH THHIIIIISSSS STRANGE EYE. WHAT IS THIS GHOST THEY WERE SAYING. THERE WAS LIFE WITHOUT EVERYBODY LOOKING THEIR MOBILE PHONES OR TAKING PICTURES OF THEM SELVES ALL THE TIME. NOW YOU ARE IN A CONCERT AND EVERYONE IS HAVING A PHONE SENDING MESSAGES OR TAKING PICTURES. MOST OF THE FANS KNOW ONLY 2-3 SONGS AND THEY GO TO THE CONCERT JUST FOR THEM. MEMORIES OF AN OLD ROMANTIC GOTH FAN I LEAVE THE FUTURE TO THE YOUNG HAVE A GOOD TIME AND ALL THE BEST TO YOU AND YOUR BELOVED ONES

Last Exit for the Lost, Dawnrazor, Moonchild, Psychonaut and its dozen versions, Blue Water, Preacher Man, Chord Of Souls and most songs of live Fields of the Nephilim - earth Inferno album - were gems. The Fields of the Nephilim suffered accusations as Sisters of Mercy clones. I never understood this as the Nephilim were a real band with a drummer. McCoy and co could actually play their instruments, did not rely on Meatloaf's producer and sampling a guitar 900 times to make it feel real. The Fields of the Nephilim were the BEST goth band as they played genuine chords and at times very beautiful sounds and were dubbed as goth's Pink Floyd. The .The live Nephilim masterpiece Earth Inferno and the brilliant studio album Elyzium left the Sisters for dead musically. The problem was that The Nephilim lead singer, like Eldritch did not want anyone "controlling their image". McCoy's voice - described as a bellowing sewer - was hardly considered radio material and the bnad were not TV friendly and did not appear on shows like the Tube, Top of the Pops and definitely not MTV. McCoy's was considered handsome and his image unique but their band's sound would not move millions of units. NOTE - This was exactly the same period as Gun'sN'Roses. Many believed that the Nephilim would sell out or go bust. By 1993 they went bust aas goth no longer sold , its image seveerly dated as grunge and industrial had taken over. Ministry and White Zombie had taken over the charts and nightclubs.

Vasile (sp) Bora got me listening to these guys back in the late '80s and since then I have bought (I believe) all of their CDs and even some vinyl. Thanks Vas! They are one of the best original Gothic bands ever and maybe even the best.

They were awesome live, really words alone cannot express the feelings enough. I can't make comparisons to the original line up as I never saw them live, but recent gigs have had Tony Pettitt back on bass!
