Summertime for Scottish deerstalkers is a time to make plans. Which deer must be shot - and which will go on to be the fathers and mothers of future herds. In part two of our series A Year in the Life of Highland Sport, Niall Rowantree from Ardnamurchan is looking at what he has got on his ground - and dealing with stags that are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Plus Charlie's in London to watch Natural England get hauled in front of a UK parliamentary committee to explain itself over the general licences chaos. Hunting filmmaker Alberto Rizzini is just back from Kazakhstan and gives us a behind-the-scenes look at his beautiful new film. Caught my attention the words and I quote '' Shooting a pigeon destroying crops or shooting a pigeon going home'' it's like considering if one shoots a thief caught steeling red handed or shooting a thief going home. Still a steeling thief so still a steeling pigeon. If I may in my opinion nothing to argue. BTW good show guys. Rochan catapult

Great stuff from Ardnamurchan and very interesting to watch the GL debacle and dissembling unfold. On the Browning film making front, presumably the sponsorship was worth it but it was, to me, a pretty dull piece. You wouldn't want too many of those in a year.

Very good episode thanks. Anything with Niall is going to be educational and entertaining! Just one (small) thing I found irritating - the camera work when filming Andrew Gilruth: Why keep swapping camera angles and resolutions for a talking head segment? It was like something from a 70's music film!

Interesting to hear you speak for the "whole world" but from the ones I speak to and I travel a fair bit on business but still haven't met the whole world, @@Kingfisher6.5 but you presumably have, that is not the case. A shadow of ourselves? All too true for most places given the way our connected societies are heading but then again we still have queues of people trying to come and live here irrespective of where they're from including the rest of the whole world. We (the UK) must be doing something right or is it just that everywhere else is worse?

Evening Charlie, Im of the opinion Defra are the right organisation to take this matter forward. And i dont mind waiting for legally sound, non restrictive new general licenses, however i was hoping for a quicker resolution

Quick question for Niall - do hummels generally have better body condition than their antlered brethren?

Typically hummels go unobserved in the early part of there lives and only catch the Stalkers eye when they gather mass. They also don’t have the physical challenge of growing antlers which gives the the opportunity to put condition on more rapidly.
