Pigeons, gundogs, and how to get qualified as a hunter and a shooter this week.
- Andy 'Crowman' Crow is shooting pigeons with a Winchester SX3.
- The Fieldsports Channel cocker spaniel is having puppies (here's a blow-by-blow account of how to do it AND how not to do it).
You can be better through getting qualifications for hunting and shooting. Hunt staff are taking an NVQ1 in animal care, backed by the Countryside Alliance. And deerstalkers are on the National Gamekeepers Organisation's DSC1 course, sponsored by JCB.
Oh - and we announce the winner of our CENS digital hearing protection competition. It's all in Fieldsports Britain this week.

We have a similar restriction on shotguns to you,but the difference is,that on a Firearms License (FAC)a user can own a multi-shot shotgun,under a "good reason for possession".Good reasons include Wild-fowling,practical shotgun competitions & hunting.It is up to the police authority of the county a person resides in,to grant them permission to buy a particular firearm,after reviewing the needs.A shotgun that hold 3 rounds or less can be held on a SGC(shotgun License:-)& is easier to get.

@KELCHERMINDY Only the first puppy - it was a sunny afternoon - and it's hard to move her once the pup is coming out - then we moved her inside to the whelping box to have the rest.

thanks for the reply. but i do feel you should of had her in her whelping box before she had her first pup. really do enjoy the programme and hope you can do some more stuff about working gundogs and breeding in the future.

No, the restriction on the magazin capacity of semi automatic shotguns and rifles is much older. And is made only for hunting, not for sport guns.

Unfortunately we can't have riot-guns with skeleton-stocks,as we have set minimum barrel-length of 24" & the gun must have a fixed stock.This has been the case for 24 years,after the Hungerford Massacre in 1987.Northern Ireland however has no such restrictions & they can own the short-barrel semi & pumps.A coach-gun or a Lever 1887 shotgun with a 18 or 20" barrel is legal on a UK FAC,as its not classed as a "short-barrelled shotgun"semi/pump repeater under UK law.

Numsu, the pigeon was indeed a real dead one. Metal, bars are attached to the wings and a little motor makes them go up and down. Electrodes.....Frankenstein's Woody (Pigeon)

Are semi automatic shotguns restricted in their number of cartridges in the mag in the uk? Here in Germany only two shells in the mag and one in the barrel are allowed.

I believe he said dew clawing, this is the rudimentary thumb on dogs which can get damaged when working. It is fairly common in working dogs. More worrying is the pest ish references to dogging in front of Archie's very attractive owner. Not even I'm that bad

How do you know the pigeons have been despatched quickly and humanely when this man seems to stay in the hide because he can't come out without frightening the pigeons away? If they are still alive it seems an awful long time to leave them suffering out there. Is this covered in BSACs good shooting practice?
