Geoff Garrod has been shooting pigeons for 50 years. During a day’s decoying, he describes shooting as it was then and how it is now. Meanwhile, Charlie visits refugees in France - and not the usual type. These ones are refugees from the UK’s gun laws, who have moved to France so they can carry on shooting without being punished. There’s an ugly rumour that DEFRA plans to ban electric shock collars. Deborah asks if this is about cruelty or choice? BASC have folded on every issue that has affected shooting, and now it's affecting game shooting, which is their only real concern, they decide to use their "formidable" fighting fund!! Such a shame that they are useless and yet considered to be the voice of UK shooting.

Another NZ resident looking in! A thursday morning treat, and what memories. A new box of Eley "Grand Prix" 6 shot, paper case, from the ironmongers. That smell of varnish, brass and powder on opening, the anticipation of using them, nothing like it.

When he made the comment about paper shells. I could almost smell them. In the 60s I bought Federal paper shells for $2 a box and reloaded them. We have the collard doves and feral pigeons, just right for the 28ga. Take care.

Great show again Charlie. Disappointing to hear Gareth Wyn Jones speaking about dog shock treatment when he is clearly under educated on the subject. I am all for listening to subject matter specialists, should I wish an education on Welsh hill sheep farming techniques then his input would be valuable for sure. Unfortunately, in this case, he has made me wish to skip other sections where I'm sure his input is of some worth. Regards Paul Kelly

Great program as always, one that BBC should air ,they would be so much better and honest then. Shame about hoplophobites making pepple leave for foreign countries. Britain the nation that gave the world so much gun quality and freedom. Whitfort rifle, Ferguson,Baker, Henry,Enfield, HH,WR , saint John Rigby , Saint Reverend Forsyth, and fine cartridges to accompany the symphony also.

I have to say that I am astounded at just how efficient the Sussex/Surrey Police have become at processing requests. I applied for a variation to my FAC just over a week ago, and its back already. I clearly have a very good FEO.

They were involved in the airgun licensing consultation up in Scotland , They spoke at meetings with another group who were against it. They were also involved in the Scottish Committee on firearms licensing last year in relation to the shootings in SKYE. They are mainly game shooting biased but they do get involved in other areas. No I'm not a member of them.

What are people doing with their shot birds? I can't find any advice on it. I only get 10-15 casually on a day around the farm every other week but tossing them in the nearest ditch doesn't seem like the best solution for large numbers

Disappointed with the ecollar story.. they are called electric training collars if you use a professional one, shock collars are cheap versions. Interviewing trainers of gundogs was pointless a lot of the dogs who need an ecollar are usually rescues or the owner has failed with their training. Interview people who deal with these dogs daily like Jamie Penrith..

If you cannot train a dog without a E collar then you cannot train one with. Know what i am talking about as i have successfully completed in spaniel field trials.

@@stuarthutchinson6808 Yet another clueless comment by someone who clearly has no idea how or why they are used and useful, with all respect in the world and thanks for your opinion but just by saying that it's obvious you have little experience of dog training even though you trial a spanner or 2. Have you trained a dog with high drive ? Have ever trained anything other than a spanner? have you ever rehomed a problem dog ? Have you ever used an independent dog to hunt at distance ? have you ever trained a protection dog ? Have you ever Trailed a high drive dog ? The clear answer is no. An E - Collar is a tool to be used like a check cord but at much longer distances, its just an extension of your arm and 9/10 its not needed. They are not A SHOCK COLLAR and any dickhead using one in that manner is, well just a dickhead. They allow the use of negative reinforcement as well as positive while the dog is in training and at distance, but being a spaniel man you don't need to worry about the distance part of your training anyway and a check cord will be long enough. They are not always needed on every dog but usually with high drive animals. Its important to realise that the dog must be trained FIRST to be able to use one as it must understand the command given or your going to make a problem worse. Been training dogs since a child more than 30 years now Stuart all kinds to do all kinds of work including trials (which by the way have little resemblance to real work). So please educate yourself and stop listening to guff you hear on the internet before you pass comment.
