That's true. In fact, most of Korn's sound is how he's approaching the bass. They all mimic what he's playing to a degree.

@@JOEMAMMADRINK40Z Haha, he's not that bad really. I never realized how advanced this bass line really is. He's just the next logical step in the Claypool-Flea-Gould ladder/circle: Les Claypool - Slaps/pops a whole symphony's worth of notes every beat, using all six strings. (often uses two-handed tapping) Flea - Slaps/pops really fast on two strings, usually octave jumps with some hammer-ons/pull-offs. (uses a 4-string) Billy Gould - Plays the same type of stuff as Flea, but much slower, simpler and often using a pick. Fieldy - Does most of his slapping on one string, rarely (if ever) pops. Tunes down his five-string. Actually plays some pretty fast stuff. Occasionally uses two-handed tapping.

People arguing about whether he is good or not just miss the point. He helped Korn have THEIR sound. That bass tone and style is so important to their music. Its not about being a good or bad player, its about contributing to the song.
@Super-wk6jx9 ай бұрын
without his sound korn would have maybe skipped on a lot of the success say had end of the 90s. There are samples where they had versions play live without that kind of bass and it was just not the same.

Yeah it doesn't really matter if he is a great bass guitar player, which I think he is and one of the more innovative ones at that, but he contributed to an iconic sound. Same shit they used to give Munky and Head. Those riffs changed the game in Metal. Same thing with Fieldys bass.

I've tried my hand at the bass, and don't progress often or get to practice much. I know what a non-bassist is like - me. I'm nowhere near Fieldy. If your joke is only consistent when applied to a specific group (in this case your "music circles"), then it's not always true. It's only true in your limited context, in which you heckle and sneer down your nose at anyone who isn't trying to be some generic Gorguts rip-off.

Fieldy gets a lot of flak, but his style is perfect for Korn, and sounds great. He's certainly not the greatest bass player (this video really makes that clear haha) but he has a unique sound that fits perfectly into the music he makes, so what does that matter?
@Owen-ne6pe2 жыл бұрын
besides the tone wtf makes him not a great bass player

I think it solely has to do with the way it was recorded. I mean, it was direct to camera audio recording. If they used mics on the amp and then used that sample and sinc it with the video like most musicians do on YT, then it would not sound horrible as a lot of people rant about. Being able to play an instrument is way different from being a sound engineer.
@etroqueen9891 Жыл бұрын
I know nothing about music or muscial instruments but I know that distinct sound that Fieldy has. I don't think anyone has been able to replicate or even tried to replicate that signature bass work that made Korn stand out back in its rising days.

I was thinking the same. I'm a huge Korn fan but every time they get Davis on an interview always have this dark aura, even when he's making jokes or talking frivolous stuff. Fieldy is always chill and bright about everything.

Scorched Earth No. I'm saying he's worth that much because he and his band are clearly doing something right. I mean here you are, watching a video of him playing bass. If he wasn't worth anything as a performer all of keyboard warriors wouldn't be on his video talking shit because you wouldn't know who he is. But the fact that you and all the other trolls on here do know him speaks volumes about his success

I love fieldy's clicks tone I myself am a percussion bassist so I play a lot of heavy groovy slap like fieldys himself lol I also play in the same tuning as him and love the low sound I prefer it over using I hat using mid to me it ruins a bad but that's just my opinion fieldys tone is so unique because you don't see many bassist bringing a new style of bass into this world anymore I don't any band that has his clicky tone

Produce more. THIS IS HOW GUITARISTS TALK. We repeat ourselves, use numbers, refer to strings by their standard name even in drop A, and make it sound so difficult you'd think we were giving a nuclear launch code. For a bonus, we also randomly state what's going on with us physically (allergy). This was very refreshing and down to earth.
