there was a huge leap in football games around 2004-2005, especially with pes 4, but since then the progress of gameplay/physics(not graphics) hasn't really evolved that much

The simple difference is FIFA players feel like robots while PES players look like humans

One small detail that I love about PES are the goal celebrations. in FIFA the teammates don't even react normally, they start cheering in the opposite direction or what not. In PES it seems more organic. Plus the kit is reacting to the environment as if they players were in space.

PES: better gameplay FIFA: better graphics

FIFA always focused more on the graphic rather than the game-feel, which is why they attracts younger generations while PES attracts more of mid age or people who wants a real game feel. But I must say, if Konami/PES improve their presentation and atmosphere, they will beat out FIFA easily, but FIFA sold me on the presentation alone lol I’ll play both games though

Fifa is an arcade game ( I've played Fifa for 14 years, I'm 18 now) and I can say that PES is headed for a much more realistic approach, FiFA hasnt changed since 2015, whereas PES is becoming the ultimate football simulator, the incredible animations, reactions, emotions, the crowd being a crowd and not robots with 2 emotions (cheering and sitting down), FIFA has become a predictable game, which is very wrong, real football is SUPER UNPREDICTABLE, and after 7 months of playing FIFA im sick and tired of playing the same game for 3 years, FIFA doesnt change, it's reached stagnation, EA is afraid of changing the core fo gameplay becasue they fear of losing players, and thus they will not go for a realistic approach, also because they want FIFA to become an E-Sport, and an e-sport needs to be predictable for the player in order to allow competitive play of highest order, there can be no luck or outside factors, PES on the other hand opts for realism, better ball physics, more animations for the players (but they haven't got the dribbling right still, but it's on a better track than fifa, which is very floaty and the players feel like they have no weight behind them), next year i'm saying goodbye to greedy EA, and saying hello to pes 2019, in a few years we'll be comparing fifa 25 and pes 25, fifa will remain arcadey with more or less the same gameplay but with more animations and stuff, but PES will become the most PHYSICALLY realistic football game ever produced, with some of the best animations in any sports game I've seen, the keepers are astonishing, and the feel of the players is so satisfying.

I'm more of a PES guy, since Winning Eleven that I played on PS1 and PS2,, I'm a guy who don't wanna buy the latest PES games that comes every single years , so PES 2018 is just enough for me, the graphics and gameplay is awesome, I only have to update the roster FIFA is cool and looks realistic but I'm a PES fan

FIFA is fantastic when it comes to atmosphere and presentation, but in terms of gameplay, I don't see how there's a question, PES is far superior. In FIFA you just run from one end to another and the technical elements of football are completely non existent. It's all about having quick, strong and energetic players while players like Iniesta and Kroos, who are none of those things, have no impact. PES has it's problems, some of the shooting and goalkeeper animations are a bit off, but it flows much more like a real match, and teams and players act much more like their real life counterparts.

even pes got less licensed than fifa..we can add it in the file option while in fifa you cant..pes can add a non-popular league (sorry for my bad english)

When I was a kid I thought the graphics in FIFA 07 were amazing. Now I think the graphics in FIFA 18 sucks. Time flies.

I prefere how Fifa looks, but the Camp Nou looks beautiful.

I used to prefer Fifa when i was younger but the older I got (im 18 now) the more I preferred PES and now thats the only one I play. PES is more realistic in its gameplay and has more of a tactical edge... while with FIFA it just seems like the gameplay is designed to allow you to hit the ball in the top corner almost every shot. That was fun when I was a kid but I prefer to play in more of a realistic manner these days (keeping possession, defending etc) and PES is much better with that in my opinion.

I have been playing fifa since 2009.i was a pes fan since 2006 to 2008 but i was more in to fifa cuz of the licensed stuffs and gameplay . i played both fifa 18 and pes 18 .pes 18 is better than gameplay and graphics compared to fifa,but if u want more of a story mode like journey on fifa and linsenced stuff then fifa is better.but overrall as a game pes wins

The movements and extra attention to detail in FIFA 18 really show. Pes is also looking great, but it does lack somewhat a bit of soul in the animations.

The atmosphere and graphics are better in FIFA but gameplay is better in PES. Journey mode is also there in FIFA but if PES had license it would have been a different story.

PES close facial graphics looks great but aerial view and pitch graphics looks awful... FIFA has cool facial graphics but I think PES pulls ahead but the aerial view, pitch, setup, commentary, crowd reactions, celebrations on FIFA makes it look much more realistic and better... FIFA is the better one I must say.

I’ve played both most of my gaming years, I always favored Konami’s since ISSS64, but Fifa has been improving year after year; the one thing PES has always had is amazing ball physics, it’s just a joy to kick that ball, but FIFA is a great and fun game to play, and it is like three games in one, FUT feels totally different from career mode, and of course the journey, FIFA has way more replay value, and also I’m sick of konami’s lack of real leagues licensing.

animations should be much better by now... but I suppose the public of this kind of game is just not very demanding, they just want access to the new team formations and stuff, even if it's the same game every year

Well here's my better version of counter-argument. PES AI were responsive. The defender,midfielder,attacker and goalkeeper does what they're supposed to do. The defender would close in to your player and block others to prevent you from passing while shooting from afar wont do you any good unless you do it right since the keeper can snatch it easily and the attacker would work together with the midfielder to reach your goal and they would be deadly if they ever reached it or your defender failed to stop their advance. The goal keeper again,were excellent. They would try their best to block or snatch the ball coming at them but there's no guarentee they could defend it for long(Watch PES gameplay if you want to see them in action). The movement in PES is fluid and natural in my opinion while the physic is good to me since the player didnt collide with each other(and falldown and got RKO by the dude they fall down on. Watch Fifa 18 Glitches if you want to know what I mean). Other feature is that you can control the player celebration or even use the infamous diving technique(press R2,L3,R3,L3 at the same time for console). Sure PES lost its EUFA Champions League license and doesnt had the special license FIFA had but,that wont stop you from experiencing its gameplay. The commentary need work since it made me feel like playing FIFA 09 and PES pitch textures look like Microsoft paint made pitch. Other than the small detail(see PES details) to me,its a realistic football game and one with great AI. There you go :) This is my response to someone in the comment section. I kept seeing people hating and loving PES and here is my take on it. It may seem one sided but I'm entitled to others opinion :)

PES' grass fields look like someone painted cement with green and white imho. no grass detail, no patches, just plain green.

FIFA has always had the best mechanics and layout but PES looks better and has better details, i mean just seeing the players in the playertunnel in the beginning is amazing!

The biggest thing for me in FIFA is how easy it is to score. Almost every shot is on target, keepers are horrendous from distance, basic dribble moves are overpowered, etc... At 4:55 how does the keeper not get a hand on that ball

I love and play both games. FIFA is an arcade experience for casual fans. PES is a much more true to life experience for those who want authentic gameplay. After years of playing both, this is the best way I can describe the differences between the two. If I had to pick one (between FIFA 18 AND PES 18) this year I'd go with PES without a doubt. They got everything right with the gameplay.
