I had the great honor to meet Eusebio in Newark NJ in 2006. In a personal chat he admited that if Pele and Garrincha were not playing while recently injured the game would've been most likely a Brazilian win. "We played against a crippled Brazilian team", he added. I have much respect for Eusebio not only as a player but as an honorable man.

We (England) won the World Cup in 1966 but Eusebio was the player of the tournament by far and scared us silly in the semi-final. RIP.

I love the wikipedia article that describes Eusebio's shot as ferocious. A word with so many subtle meanings and a great deal of the raw quality of his shooting and his hunger for scoring. Not only hard, not just sharp, not even wicked or clever. Ferocity that combines it all is the best to describe.

You can all say that he is "the 8th best player of all-times"... I sincerely have watched more than 10.000 - 15.000 hours of football and besides Maradona(who proved it at Napoli) i´ve never seen such an influencial player in football. Eusébio and Maradona are Gods ! Wonder what he could do with Careca, Garrincha, Butrageño,Di Stefano, Xavi or Iniesta besides him. He alone is a force of nature! Descansa em paz KING.

BTW Portugal was not the team that had to travel, it was England and they used some Hooligan shenanigans to force Portugal to travel and that is one of the main reasons why England won. Portugal had to travel by train all night when they were not supposed to travel. Eusebio PORTUGAL and The Earth loves you!

He was the biggest player in the club’s history and the only living myth I was privileged to have known.” When asked about his scoring ability and how defenders were playing against him; “I marked the defence, they thought they were marking me, no. I’d be marking them because I was a lot faster than them. When Simões got the ball, he’d knew where’d I’d go, play the ball into space and I’d run onto it and score.”
