I think it's very important to mention, and it wasn't even mentioned here, that Camila was posting rac ist posts about her band members, specifically Normani, while SIMULTANEOUSLY acting like she liked them. Also, when her stans violently attscked Normani on sm, she was completely silent, and it wasn't until she received backlash for this that she decided to get on her notes app and make a vague PR post, instead of actually condemning RAC IST behavior... So it wasn't like she was this super sweet girl who didn't deserve her band members' rightful criticism.

I'm actually still evaluating how much I can compare these two industries because I just realised a few months ago that after Little Mix "disbanded" (gosh, I love kpop terminology), I got into kpop and had a very very seamless transition. Almost too perfectly, as if the KZfaq algorithm was like "hey, we know your British girl group isn't doing well right now... how about checking out a Korean one?". So yeah that's what I did and Little Mix just disappeared, but one thing I can already say is that my ADHD brain can probably never go back to Western pop. How did I manage to wait a year for a new album? To not have bts vlogs of everything, and special videos and covers just for the fans? I remember that it didn't feel that way and I followed multiple artists plus it wasn't my whole life back then but now with kpop this feels so empty. The most interesting argument occurs when you look at the whole Blackpink situation, because with kpop getting increasingly popular you can see really well how expectations for a girl group clash.

In their defense, Dinah said that they weren’t given a chance to figure out what the band meant to them. And I feel like if they were given creative freedom earlier, they would’ve bonded more. They get to be creative together instead of being given songs and record them separately. The lack of system when being given distribution of a song was a major factor.

The reason groups like Little Mix and One Direction succeeded was because of the synergy and cohesiveness. Even though 1D didn’t dance, they had great chemistry and seemed like they actually liked each other (at least in the beginning anyway). Little Mix (prior to the Jesy situation) were the bestest of friends and even to this day the remaining three members are still very close. 5H just seemed like a group of random girls thrown together and expected to excel 😭

Can we take a moment to give ALLY some love? As much as dancing (pre-DWTS) came the least naturally to her.... all members consistently agreed that Ally was the glue of the group that not only took care of them like a mother but kept the group going for as long as it did. Goddess-like, soaring voice who you could always count on for the soprano harmony. ❤

Regarding the styling - I remember when Little Mix were either on the X Factor, or not long after they won, I saw a clip with a stylist saying the idea was to dress them like four different girls with different tastes in clothing, who are all going to the same party together. I thought that was pretty cool. It meant that the girls had unique looks, but nobody looked overdressed. With 5H's styling, it can look like one member is dressed to go to a lunch date, and they're standing next to another who looks like they're dressed for a formal dinner. Little Mix would go on to have tour outfits that were matching, but not identical. So the outfits would be totally different for each member, but in the same colour, or each member would be wearing a different bright colour, with the outfits more similar or at least made out of the same materials. This kind of styling always makes me think of Destiny's Child. There's a clip in this video where Fifth Harmony are dressed in different outfits but they're all navy blue. They're all completely out of sync, which cancels out any cohesion. But it also doesn't look like there was necessarily a lot of thought and care put into it. I think that's the issue. If they'd been given more time to practice, and had people putting a lot of effort into making the group work, in all areas, it wouldn't have been as messy. It's like the people just half arsed everything. The only thing that mattered was trying to squeeze as much money as quickly as possible out of the group without caring about the group at all at the same time. Edit - paused the video to write this, put it back on and Jasmine says that their team treated them as a cash grab. That's a perfect way to explain it.

I was a very big fan of 5H while they were a group, but only of their music. To me the issue was always that X-factor put together five random girls with no thought behind (compared to Little Mix where the judges thought of their height, age, looks and their voices to make them a coordinated group) and then expecting them all to be the same artist and that they all were on the same level singing/dancing wise. For example nobody was really a dancer except Normani and that SHOWED, especially with Ally that always struggled and was always off with her dancing. They just put everyone together and excepted them to be dancers with full on choreography and I felt so bad for Ally. I saw them live once and it was pure chaos. It was just so obvious that they worked with good producers and songwriters (because the songs are GOOD!) and that together with the fans made them go as far as they did. I feel bad for them that had to go through being in this group since it was clearly not healthy or fun from the beginning.

Simon Cowl could take a note or two from kpop, they are masters of knowing how to fake group authenticity and chemistry, as well as knowing what factors are necessary to make a successful group. Members will offer various things such as talents (dancing, singing, visuals, variety shows, ect) personalities and archetypes that come together to compliment one another but still have individuality in the group. You can’t just pick a few random (albeit talented) girls from an audition show and expect them to have what it takes to be successful as a group long term.

I completely agree with your comment but I also think that another factor why kpop works is bc a lot of the trainees knew that they would prob end up in group or came in *with* the intention to be in a group. Fifth harmony on the other hand…they prob didn’t want to be group in the first place
@moongirl8807
@moongirl8807 Жыл бұрын
I mean you have the right thoughts but the systems are very different, not to mention the culture. We don't have a trainee system, and back then kpop was getting more recognised but probably not enough for a Simon Cowell to take notes. I mean, even now it is still a niche interest in Western countries. And anyone who says otherwise: good for you that you found your people, I certainly didn't. Although we have some groups selling like crazy they still don't get radio time for example. Let's call it racism or something but you get the point. Also why would Simon change his system, it worked perfectly for 1D and Little Mix. Eventually they all come down but maybe that's exactly where your comment comes in: it's often not even fake friendship, but the members actually bond in kpop due to similar experiences of training for years, being really young and often exploited and overworked. So I kinda agree with you that you can't just pick random people but that also means they have to get along and not just stage it. Because that also can only go for so long, it happens in kpop too that groups have major arguments and one member leaves. Anyway I don't know what my point was, there's so much more to this topic. I think it's way more difficult to compare a kpop gg to a Western gg than one would think.

also while i dont think every kpop group are acc besties,, the management team seems to know how to pick which combination of personalities will translate to good chemistry on stage/camera. kinda how actors will do chemistry readings to play romantic leads,, so many teams are put together quickly but on camera can act like they've known each other forever
@moongirl8807
@moongirl8807 Жыл бұрын
@@ositaiza888 true, I really wonder how they do it. Maybe a lot comes naturally because of the long training period and many go to the same art high school, but you can have arguments as teens a lot and depending on how prestigious the company is and how much pressure they put on you it can probably lead to fights and jealousy. But that's just a thought, it seems like the opposite is true. Most groups are really close and sad when someone leaves even pre-debut. They HAVE to manage this somehow, there's no way they get this lucky. Especially considering how much planning goes into every other tiny aspect of debuting a group. Another thought, I wonder if they put them through personality tests in general, bc besides the obvious that you need to stand the pressure, not everyone is born an entertainer. You have to have this certain thing, and I think scouts are really good at this. If you look at stories of absolute world stars, Western or kpop, often there was a scout behind them. They just go on the streets and find the best people, it's truly fascinating.

I understand to a lot of the public that there was so chemistry between these girls, but as a DEEP Harmonizer I would say the Better Together - Reflection Era was when they TRULY felt like a sisterhood. Were they perfect?! NOOO! Dancing was a mess, outfits always interesting (lol), and you could tell they were overworked. But they felt like family, they had moments they fought, and if you ever watched the AwesomenessTV Vlogs you could see they enjoyed each others companies as you would with your family. At the end of the day, what caused the groups downfall was their management. I think people often forget that they were literally just kids when they debuted. And they were under a very toxic and manipulative label. It makes me so sad and angry when people talk about Fifth Harmony now and they try to pin all the blame on them, when in reality they were just kids trying to live their dreams. Their label did nothing but overwork them and constantly pin them against each other; which of course in turn made them lash out their anger onto each other. They were manipulated so hard by their label, I don’t understand why this part of the story is never mentioned. As a harmonizer myself, I feel like the chemistry was there in the beginning, but the longer that they were a group the chemistry started to fade and I feel like a lot of that was because of their management. They constantly compared the girls to each other and made them feel like they were in a competition instead of a team. And if somehow you don’t believe me Lauren herself has stated multiple times that she felt very stuck in her contract. Even the diss against Camila in their Angel performance and their letter to the fans saying that she left feels so controlled. It feels either it was written by the management or the management had manipulated the girls into resenting Camila for leaving. SYCO was probably upset that Camila decided to leave (since she was the breadwinner) and that was them punishing her. I really do feel like if Fifth Harmony had a better management, they would’ve survived in the industry at least a lot longer. They’re all sweet girls and they’re all super talented, it really was the fault of the management and SYCO. SYCO also destroyed one directions career by giving them no creative freedom, constantly controlling them, and making them put up these façades. In conclusion it’s all psychos fault and I think it’s really trashy that people are trying to pin all the blame on teenage girls for what happened to them when they were literally in an abusive, exploitative industry.

I'm happy you made that last segment "in their defense", because although they were very messy and had a lot of problems, their environment really didn't help, they were mistreated, overworked and had no artistic freedom (which is why you can't blame them for the bad choreographies, I always felt bad especially for Normani who is an amazing dancer, it must have been horrible to have to do such awful dances lmao). And let's not say that they were never friends, at the very beginning they were (you can see it in the early interviews and the awesomeness tv videos), maybe not everyone but, for example, Dinah and Camila were very close (you can see that after Camila left, Dinah was affected, there is an interview where she talks about a "person" she would like to apologize to (something like that, I don't remember precisely) and it is rumored to be about C. Lauren and C were also pretty close, and Lauren, Dinah and Normani are still kinda friends (they support each other on social media). And while they were friends at first, being overworked and underpaid, all that while being under the spotlight at a young age, would probably be an environment that creates tension between anyone. Anyway, thank for your video, it was very interesting to dive back in the 5H years. Watching them become a meme has been very entertaining to me haha. (English isn't my first language, so sorry if I made any mistake)

As a harmonizer i have to say that we as a fandom also had a hard time. It was so heartbreaking to see how their label and their team didn't give a crap about the girls. Especially during the selftitled era (2017-2018), we would do streaming parties, buyouts, radio requests and more, because the support from syco was non existent. I admire them so much for still wanting to deliver us a last album as a four-piece and i truly wish that they all find the success and happiness that they deserve in the future.

i think part of their choreo being messy is that 1) i doubt they had much time to practice since they seemed to be going on tour all the time, or it at least wasn't constructive practice. which leads into 2) they're choreo had to be made easier, and it doesn't look like their choreographers knew how to create easy choreo for them that looked consistent.

Little Mix are a standard group, can’t say the same for K-Pop group. They are no difference like Fifth Harmony and One Direction, as K-Pop are just a version of Latin pop artists. Trying to get into western society to get popularity. K-Pop is really not that special as pop group or any group, as they are no different to a regular group that we have right now in the English world.

Fifth Harmony reminds me of Blackpink. They are both the popular girl groups of their era/time but there isn't a clear goal when it came to the music. Fifth Harmony has no sound or music that you knew is them listening to it, it's the same with Blackpink despite their songs following a formula, it's not a signature sound. Both groups are known and stanned for the members more so than the music. However with 5H, there was zero connection as a group and no bond, at least Blackpink have that going for them since they trained together. I feel very bad for Dinah and Ally, they were overlooked so much and had fewer fans so the label didn't push them in songs or MV's. Normani being the only black girl had her overlooked and ignored, until they saw she could dance and only used her for that. I'm glad Normani is the star now, and I hope Dinah and Ally can be too sometime soon. Lauren seems to be doing okay, but she has fans more so from the LGBT fanbase instead of her talent. I hope she can be seen as a singer soon and not only as a girl crush. Camilla had all the push/buzz and only hit her downfall due to being racist to Normani. There's no one to blame but herself there.

Why do people keep saying that she was thrown off the VMA stage or they physically threw her. Camila threw herself off the stage and they continued without her like anyone can see from the performance. Camila being a victim narrative is so tired imo. All 5 girls were all victims.

What I don't like about 'let's criticize Fifth Harmony' wagon is that so many people hate them without trying to know who they were and who they are, specially new generations who didn't pay attention to them before/hadn't listened to them before belittle them and disregard the talents that they have just because they prioritize the meme-mentality. Also most seem to lack EMPATHY for them?! They were TEENAGERS when they started and of course they would've wanted better things for them! The messiness that the group had doesn't take away their qualities individually, and how excellent and amazing they were so many times. Also they had a unique chemistry🤭 they were incredibly fun and YES they were close (at least when they were four) and at so many times LOVING to one another, despite the tension that they had at times, like why did you expect? they were treated unfairly, couldn't spend enough time with their family, and they were growing up in public (also let's not forget how invasive so many of the fans were), OF COURSE they were going to be messy. I wish at least half of the people who are making fun of their former group today would appreciate Lauren, Normani, Ally, Dinah and Camila in their solo careers. They deserve that. I've loved them so much and I can't understand how in all these conversations about them so many people are able to IGNORE how incredibly talented, charismatic, creative, grateful, and beautiful inside (and out) they are💗 They just dehumanize them and see them as memes🤦🏻‍♀️ (of course this video didn't feel disrespectful at all, which is hard to find when it comes to essays about the group, I'm just talking about the response from most people, it's a shame when you've seen through the years how worthy of appreciation these women are)

People who hates the girls are Camila fans, who just wants hates the other four. Just because they can and don’t need, a good reason to hates and dislikes. The rest of the other members. The fans wants to believe that the other girls, were mean and bullied her and why she left. People who hates the girls, don’t really care for the other. And don’t intend to care or see the real issue, because they stuck up Camila stans that would believe. Anything that people or media, that feeds the fans would eat it up.

We know all this. Lots of ppl do this type of stories about the group but always leave out their solo careers and up to now… lot it’s happening behind the scenes that prevents the other girls from releasing an album.. Ally, Lauren and Dinah parted ways with their labels without an album release.. Rooting for Normani. Camila just signed a new deal with a different label. Dinah and Lauren have their own labels now and are indie artists.

I'm not surprised that Camila has OCD, Anxiety and depersonalization. They where overworked, sexualized despite Camilla only just being 18 when they filmed worth it - they literally shot it on her 18th birthday. I am surprised that the other girls don't have them - I don't follow the rest of them, but if they don't I am effing surprised. I am not a fan of them, I am a Mixer and literally only have listened to the singles, but they did not deserve that.

Their stylist did them soo dirtyyy. Barely any of their outfits complimented their bodies and looked awful on each girl. Pair that with the complete mismatch as a group and it looks like a zero effort mess. Add in the dancing ahhhhh so cringe why is it so bad. Considering how big they were it's surprising they didn't lock that shit down, but seeing how much they were working they must have had zero time. Still hilarious though. I like Little Mix too, but Fifth Harmony a good group too. The only difference is that Little Mix, created a sisterhood. Well I cannot say whether or not, if Fifth Harmony had one as well. Which I cannot compare as seem that Fifth Harmony have some, decent friendships with one a another that they spent. Six years together, five years with Camila. It real wasn’t their fault why the group went sour and broke up, I blame the label company for screwing them over. Everyone should at least know that.

The reason was tht Camilla was the only one tht wanted it. Comming from kpop I dont understand the overworking accusations: you have a song, you promote it until it gets to places, period. This kind of hypocrotical attitude about western artists is why I never look them up anymore. Tbh these girls never came out as professionals. Thts why, no matter what their fans say, all of their solos flopped except Camillas and even shes not getting booked so 🤷🏻‍♀️. Sit down, be humble (?).
