That is honestly one of the best looking camper/trailer conversions that I have ever seen! Very well done!
@WarriorWoodshop3 жыл бұрын
thank you. We have a 16ft camper to flatbed on the slate for this spring or summer. One of the phrases I use in class with my students is "If you don't have time to do it right the first time, when are you going to have time to go back and fix it?"
@godspeedparadeteam3 жыл бұрын
Do you teach welding?
@WarriorWoodshop3 жыл бұрын
@@godspeedparadeteam technically I am a woodwork and construction teacher, but if a kid wants to do some welding, I don't stop them and show them the ropes. The kid in the video welding is one of my son's best friends, my son is the one cutting the wood, and his buddy is in the welding class.

@@godspeedparadeteam not officially. we send our students to the tech school. woodworking and construction are our official classes but if a kid wants to try, I show them a little bit

Good looking trailer👍. Looking to do the same to an old 5th wheel I have. Then put a slide-in truck camper up front to make a homemade “toy hauler”
@WarriorWoodshop Жыл бұрын
that thought has crossed my mind, however we ended up converting a 32ft enclosed gooseneck into a toy hauler during covid. we can haul 3 atvs or 2 atvs and one utv this way. only downside is dirty bikes in the camper when done with weekend. but we can sleep 6 vs 2-4 in a cabover camper.

we will have a 6x16 camper frame to utility trailer video coming out in the next couple weeks, working on the build now!

That came out great. Good job. I plan on doing the same with a junk camper.

Found a cheap camper might try my had at this for a toy hauler! Few questions for you! Was that frame have a v in the front from factory? Or was it added? And how long was that trailer? The one I found is a 26 footer end to end
@WarriorWoodshop3 жыл бұрын
The trailer in this video is 34ft long. The previous owner had cut the top back to 6ft wide and then angled the front corners also. I would have not made the slant so large, just a foot back on each corner. If that was the case, then a small utv could have gone up there not just an aTV. The other thing to consider is a lot of camper frames have the axles too far forward. This is to balance out all the liquid tank weights and keep the weight off the tow vehicle for a smoother ride. The problem with this is that if you have too much weight behind the axles, then you get the death wobble. Realistically the rear axle on is where the front axle should have been positioned. Look at your frame, how heavy duty is it. A lot of the frames now are 2x6 stacked to make 12" or a 2x8 box tubing. If its open C channel, I'd shy away. There was more give in the tongue than I care to admit. In the beginning I thought we could sell the heavy duty 20+5 GN trailer. There is no comparison.

I do like this tho

If it's not to much trouble, could you do a material list and cost?? I'd really Appreciate it and I understand if you can't. I'm almost down to the frame on tearing down one exactly like this and plan on doing the same. This is the best camper trailer conversion I've ever seen. I want mine to look like it was bought as a trailer just like you e done with yours. Great job, incredible job. 👏

I've actually thought about taking an old pop up camper I have, taking the axle out from under it, and putting it up on the top deck. Any ideas on attaching it or any concerns on why not to do it?
@WarriorWoodshop Жыл бұрын
All I can recall is we spent about 2500 on materials, but we had to put new tires and brakes on it also. Some steel we had in stock. Lumber was close to $750. I had a lot of the conduit in supply as I buy in bulk. Sold the trailer for $3500, so figure time, it was only a $500 profit, but it was a fun build
@WarriorWoodshop Жыл бұрын
@@timscon2001 do you have a shortbed or longbed truck? I plan on putting an upper deck on my current goosneck, I will be using 1 1/2" square 14 ga square tubing, then border it with the 1 1/4" angle as we did on this trailer. Not sure you will have enough connection points as popup decks don't have equal crossmembers, plus there isn't usually enough cross members to support real weight. Not sure if it's worth the hassle. To each his own.

works good as a UTV/ATV trailer. hauled lumber a few times. A buddy has it now, still going strong

Did you screw the boards down? If so, what kind of fasteners did you use?
@WarriorWoodshop4 ай бұрын
yes, Tek 2 3/4" self drilling screws. however we drill a 1/8" or 3/32" pre-drill to make it install easier

I have a fifth wheel camper that my step father and I plan to tear it apart and maybe use it as a trailer
@adamford68503 жыл бұрын
How did you add the dovetail?
@WarriorWoodshop3 жыл бұрын
It wasn't added, it was a wedge cut in the frame then allowed to fall/bend and then it was welded back together. Finally a gusset plate over each side.

Would this be suitable for a car/truck?
@WarriorWoodshop11 ай бұрын
not the frame that came with this camper. some of the newer camper frames have larger box tubing. this one was only 6" rectangular tubing, so maybe a regular car, but definitely not a truck due to frame size
@kieranwilliams20803 жыл бұрын
What’s the rough total cost? Not including what you spent on the trailer. Just parts. Nice build by the way!
@WarriorWoodshop3 жыл бұрын
We ended up putting new tires rims and springs on it. Estimated with wheels was about $2k in materials. Of course we had to start right when lumber prices went up. Before buying the frame, I priced out deck lumber, $400. When we bought it a month later after doing all the steel work, $650. All that adds up!
@kristopherhowell89713 жыл бұрын
@@WarriorWoodshop would you be willing to do this on another trailer?
@WarriorWoodshop3 жыл бұрын
@@kristopherhowell8971 I have 2 in the waiting! They are both bumper pulls. Just waiting for lumber prices to go down. You don't get a cheaper trailer, you get a better built trailer. The only down side is the axles are usually less than 6ft wide, so it really can't be a car hauler. The other thing you have to worry about is the axles are usually further forward on a camper than a flatbed which can lead to swaying if loaded wrong
@kristopherhowell89713 жыл бұрын
@@WarriorWoodshop I have a 28 ft I would like to have you do this on. I don't mind driving to wherever you are. Mines a fifth wheel.

It is only used for personal use, so they don't worry. Not sure if I would do this for a commercial or business trailer.
