Travis, your trees are growing nicely . After just 2 years, I wish I would have placed ALL my trees at least 16 ft. apart. I really enjoy your agriculture knowledge.

We have those loblolly pines, we cleared 2.5 acres and it was kinda a nightmare. Most didn't give us an issue, but a few did and we had to basically dig most of the trunks out the ground. I mean a few where a good 10-15 deep holes all around before we could get them out with the tractor bucket. They have a log of resin in them tend to burn well when dried out, we didn't have much of a problem with ours but we made massive piles. We rented a skid loader with a root rake to help clear the land for use so we had to dig everything up before we planted grass seed.

A year ago, I started an apple and pear orchard for my toddler. I also have a 15 year old brown turkey, and a few other 1 year old fig varieties. That GE Neri I got from you is gonna be waiting a year for planting. Gonna give it the best start I can. It's doing great 👍!! Your orchard is looking very nice!!

I have learned my lesson with getting Figs from the box stores, wait a couple months and find the ones with the green growth. Lol. I did that for Currant and Pomegranate too. Lol

In Georgia the call them cinder blocks (just like the yankees do). Cinder is a byproduct of coal fired steel plants. They are very light and not very strong structurally . In Florida we call them concrete blocks which is probably what you have. As always Go Gators!!

One thing, that you know and understand but don't hardly mention, is the mulch and how very important it is to young figs. The more mulch the happier your trees will be.

You probably didn't think of this, but drip fittings work much better when you store them in a dawgs bucket.

Honest Answer needed! Live in Ohio - zone 5b. Can I grow fig trees in my area? I have heard different answers to my questions. Concern is that it gets to cold in the winter. Will I only be able to grow in a pot? Would like to grow on our property. Appreciate information that you can share.
@LazyDogFarm
@LazyDogFarm Ай бұрын
You'd need to grow them in large pots so you could put them in a garage or a place where they would be protected in the winter. Some folks up that way will try to grow them in the ground (and some will do it successfully), but it's pretty risky.

Travis, question. I’m a complete fig novice. I bought three strawberry verte cuttings on figbid in the spring. All three rooted successfully and I up potted today - 60 days in. However, one is pretty symptomatic of FMV; blotchy, multi-colored leaves. Should I trash the symptomatic cutting? Have you experienced FMV? Thanks. Matt

Phew! I planted a fig yesterday that I was gifted … I put it where the water hose reaches easily. I followed your planting advice from previous vids … thank goodness you posted this today- it was reassurance that I did it correctly lolololol Another friend brought me one that was roots she just pulled up and away from her existing tree that was her mother in laws for years that they had transplanted when she passed away prob 20 years ago! I put it in a pot with some compost, bacto & potting bark mix . It’s been a week. It went through a pretty bad shock but I think it’s because I put it on the porch in full sun and she said theirs was in dappled shade. It’s hanging in there. I’m afraid to put it in the ground just yet and create another shock. Any thoughts?
@LazyDogFarm

I wouldn't put that bare root one in the ground this year. Baby it for a year in that pot and put it in the ground next year.

Hey there, Chief. I've got a black mission that's three years old, full and growing well. However, no figs yet. Is there a possible issue with something I've read concerning male vs. female plant? If so, how do I tell the difference? Thanks in advance 👊
@LazyDogFarm
@LazyDogFarm Ай бұрын
No male and female plants with figs. Black Mission is a common fig that doesn't require pollination. I have a Black Mission tree as well that grows much slower than other varieties. Give it a good pruning this winter and fertilize it heavily in late winter with a granular around the base of the plant.
