A depressed man (Edward Norton) suffering from insomnia meets a strange soap salesman named Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) and soon finds himself living in his squalid house after his perfect apartment is destroyed. The two bored men form an underground club with strict rules and fight other men who are fed up with their mundane lives. Their perfect partnership frays when Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), a fellow support group crasher, attracts Tyler's attention.

This is the most accurate-to-reality line in the movie that is so surrealistic in virtually every other aspect. It isn't even trying to be serious while at the same time portraying itself as an extremely serious matter.

Seriously, no one else could've done Tyler Durden this well. Brad Pitt is THE reason that character has become so iconic. The insane physique (a big part of it), the charisma, the body language, the coolness - no one else could've done it quite like this.

I remember the poster for this movie - the pink bar of soap. There was such a murmur about this film at the time, it was absolutely ground breaking. It's held up so well over the last 2 decades. In 50 years from now people will still be talking about it.

Hard to choose a single movie as favourite but if i had to, I'd say either fight club or forrest gump (tie) are my favourite. One shows the meaninglessness of life, the other one attempts to do the opposite.
