Thanks, good comparison video. I was trying to decide between two Echo 4's or one Studio and your review confirmed what I'd read - that the Echo 4's had muddy bass. Doesn't even sound like I need the subwoofer. Thanks man.

I caved. When I saw the new Echo in Red I had to get it. I was planning not to get a new one. But I couldn't help my self. Looking forward to trying it out. Great review.

4th gen has a lot more clarity in the mid to high frequencies. It handles bass better…I’m an audio engineer so I prefer a balanced speaker…but for those of you who love bass over everything…you might be disappointed

very useful thank you so much. i have the 4th gen and it has been having problems, amazon is going to replace it per warranty but i may return for one of the others. the agent on the phone says that even though 4th gen is new and improved, it's still new so may have some unexpected hardware issues; where as, the second gen , even though its "old" it's based on improvements from the first round of technology so may be a little more stable and he has barely any calls about it.

I´ve heard there was an update that improved the response on echo 4. As far as I know, mic is much better now.

You have a good connection, that's why the difference of response time is not that big. For people with bad connection it is a lot slower when using Internet and using the embedded processing will help to keep processing close to 1s.

Over the years I've been buying alot of amazon speakers mainly the 4th gen echo I own 3 of those, 1 for my bed side, and the other 2 for my desk. The echos sound good but when its maxed out the bass does not seem to be there along with a bit of clearity but they are still very good speakers. More things I added was a bass speaker and a echo dot 5th gen for better clarity and bass. It worked! the 5th gen along side the echos added more clarity and with the bass speaker, of course, more bass. The perfect combination. I can max out to 100% with full clarity and bass although neighbors in the house next door will think im having a party. Will I say it adds up to to the price of almost if not 2 echo studios? Yes, But I would say my audio configuration possibly gives the studio a run for its audio, never tested it to confirm it but definitely would be interesting to see.

Interesting comparison, I have a 4th gen and wish I had seen this before I bought one. It does sound good but the microphone is totally rubbish and I had to move it out of the bedroom because its no good having to shout loudly at it in the night to turn the lights on so i can find the bathroom. I'm back on the 2nd gen echo now, much better!

As I write this, we are in march 2021, Ive got a 4th gen in my livingroom and an echo dot 3th gen in my bedroom. Both sport the same responsiveness when talked to. Could be a defective batch, could be the latest couple of firmware releases, I couldnt tell. But, again, the whispering mode is quite amazing...and kind of sexy, I must say :) Special thanks to Amazon support, they kindly assisted me in turning on the Tidal, on my 4th gen bought in UK and set up in East Europe.

Excellent comparison. I wish you had included the Echo 3rd gen and the dots for gen 3 and gen 4, but that may have been too many. I must talk loudly or in my unnatural low voice for my echo dot gen 3 to hear me. I'm trying to decide which echo to buy next. I live in a 500 sq ft. apartment. Too much bass for my neighbors with echo studio and I like mics in echo plus. They must still have 7 mics in plus. Guess I'll go with echo gen 4 as a compromise. You've been extremely helpful.

Good job, mate. But you should do this head to head again because Echo 4th got some firmware improvements in the meantime. Possibly some of the bug were ironed out, as to speak ;)

@@UTILITARIANTVUK I couldnt say for sure...but as posted somewhere below on this page, I couldnt find any performance related differences between 4th gen and 3th gen Dot, in my home, these two little b*tards work as supposed. Maybe Im just lucky.

I pulled my Echo Sub out of storage and finally got it working with my 4th Gen and the 2nd 4th Gen that I purchased with the Echo Studio. I returned the Echo Studio a couple of days ago. The 2 Echo 4th Gens and the Echo sub sound great. I’m going to get a HomePod 2 at the end of the month and stream MY music from Plex (which is quite a collection I’ve curated since 1995) over AirPlay using Plexamp set as my default player. Streaming is a scam - you do all the work curating playlists and the more you do, the more they have you hooked. The day you stop paying your subscription is the day ALL YOUR WORK disappears BUT they add the benefits of your meticulous work to train their AI

I was told that Amazon will be releasing a update in near future which will take advantage of the new fast chip. Then we will see the difference in speeds

I've had a few comments saying that it's not even operating yet. I was referred to Craig's Tech Talk's video where he mentioned that the chip has not been turned on yet? I asked Craig if he could provide me with any further information on this but he never replied. I just find it odd as the chip was a huge part of Amazons marketing when promoting the 4th gen. For them to then launch the speaker without turning it on would be bizarre? If there is an update, I'll be making another video on it! lol!

Keep in mind you can get (2) 4th Gens for the price of one studio. The 4th Gen wins hands down on two vs one.

Have you had issues with your Echo Studio x 2 plus a sub? I have had so many issues, and I believe it is because of the sub, I am thinking about moving the sub to the Echo 4 pair. Sometimes output will only come out of the sub. Other times, just one studio. Other times, I am lucky to get it to play a song. This all started when I added the sub to the Echo Studio pair. Amazon has promised help but has been little help.

I know you've probably tried it but have you tried unpairing the sub, then unplugging the sub, plug it back in and pairing again?

@@UTILITARIANTVUK I have tried it. It works for a couple of days and then repeats the problems. I have exchanged my first sub under warranty and got the same results. Amazon was supposed to analyze my network and devices and offer a solution. I am still waiting on their e-mail they promised would be delivered two plus weeks ago.

@@UTILITARIANTVUK yes, Amazon support checked that during the support call. What sucks about it is you can't force an update. You just have to assume it is going to automatically happen.

@@claybowler751 you can ask the speaker, "check for update' and it should update if it needs to? Looks as if there's a fault somewhere, surprised Amazon hasn't been more helpful.

What would you recommend between Echo plus and the Echo 4 Gen? Price wise the Echo plus i would get for 76€ the Echo 4 costs 100 €. Is it worth? Thx in advance.

I'd pay the extra 24 and get the echo 4th gen. It's smarts are the same as the plus but it sounds much better.

Could I connect the 4th generation to a smart tv. For some reason my tv has no Bluetooth. (Tv is hisense 55inch 4k smart.)

Yes you can connect it via your headphone jack to the 3.5mm jack on the speaker, as long as your TV has one. You'd also need to set the aux audio in the app to line in.

I ordered two of the echo 4's can't wait to get them. I like the looks and I like the fact that it has directional sound. I probably would have considered the studios if I had noticed they were on sale when they were but by the time I realized it the sale had already ended. At 140 a piece it isn't bad but no way I'm paying 200 bucks for each.

@@manan3409ah edit never mind stereo mode isnt awful it just depends on the song. I played some songs I know should work in stereo mode and its working. I should also spread them out a bit more too so yeah stereo is working sorry. The only reason I got two was for home theater mode on my firestick with plex. Which again I'm disappointed in because it only plays at like 40% of the max volume and the voices are just to quiet as well. Idk why I dont have this problem with anything else Bluetooth is also awful on these things... I keep an echo dot 3rd gen connected to my laptop and experience almost no delay not enough to notice anyway but this echo produces a solid 1 second delay. I also connected it to my TV under Bluetooth just to see if it would actually play loud and it did but whenever I would pause it would automatically resume after 1 second for some reason. Overall I'm not that happy. I may connect one to my pc with an aux and return the other but I'm not sure ill just have to see what happens amazon claims they may be able to troubleshoot me through some of these problems but I'm very doubtful considering I've been tinkering with them for a while

@@manan3409 also if you do buy a pair to use in home theater mode keep in mind firearms dont support it yet even the 2020 versions its only the new firesticks and the firecube that are currently supported.

I heavily rely on plex as well, so the 40% sound is sad.; I currently have 1 echo 4 paired with firestick 4k and its still better than my TV speakers, so was hoping 2 in stereo would blow it out of the water xD

I've tweaked my settings I've connected it to a different TV and its just disappointingly quiet and like I said the voices are even more quite sometimes I can't even understand what they say. Its very annoying and sucks because that's 80% of the reason I bought it. Heck I don't even get 40% of the sound I get closer to 25%

Lets say i want to have a party in my house with a good quality sound, which one should you recommend me to buy? In case that your answer is studio. Is it worth to pay 200% the price of echo 4th generation just to have a party?

Depends on how big a party you're planning. The 4th Gen would be fine for a small gathering but for larger gatherings you'd have to go for the studio.

I have two echo 3 and they sound so much better as a pair, I assume the gen 4 would sound even better as a pair. But the echo studio is a different class. It’s much clearer in the highs and although two echos have a lot more bass as a pair than single units, it’s not as refined and punchy as the studio and sound a bit muddy. I can only imagine what two studios sound like.

You'd have to do it through Bluetooth.

@@romankukhar8360 Once the phone is connected to the speaker via Bluetooth, open the music player app on your phone. You should be able to play the music through that.

Off topic rant. Audio quality wise these all are expensive rubish. I mean, comme on, if you put together 2 Studios and an Echo SUB you spend such a pile of money youd rather wait for BF and get a good pair of Monitor Audio Silver speakers, I guarantee they would blow you away even on (cheap) chi-fi class D amplification. Wanna bluetooth on top? Get another go to the chinese, they have the latest in bluetooth quality, I mean UAT, LDAC or at least Aptx HD transceivers at a very good price (have a look at Fiio for instance) not to mention the 200 euros price tagged chinese DACs with hires audio and wifi bluetooth built in.

Well considering the echo 4’s are normally on sale for $69 Canadian and you get impressive balanced sound out of something smaller then a soccer ball it’s worth every penny the studio is great but yes in terms of that price point you can find a amp and some great speakers all for the same price XD

Why are all you reviewers so obsessed with the copyright issue? What are doing can be done for free under the "fair use" clause of the copyright act. Which means, essentially, that you are using content for, for example, educational purposes, you are not violating copyright

What you are stating may be true but KZfaq doesn't see it like that. I've had numerous copyright warnings for playing even a small sample of music. Rick Beato often plays music for educational purposes and is extremely vocal for having many of his videos being taken down. He's even testified before a United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on the subject of fair use.

Yes it's much better sounding when compared to the 3rd gen. It just the bold claims made by Amazon regarding faster processing have been greatly exaggerated.

Most importantly I'm tired of these echo dot 3rd gens. They are convenient and I'll definitely still use them but in common areas like the bathroom or kitchen ect. Not my room... It's pitiful how muffled Alexa sounds on these things and how Amazon didn't bother correcting the issue even though it seems like it has to be a software issue since it's only the Alexa voice and not third party voices
