I think Phones in general feel to tall and wide currently. I used a Xaomi mi 10 T pro for the last year and dropped it often just because I cloud not safely hold it with one hand. About a month ago I bought a iPhone 8 to try out a smaller phone for a low price. I did not drop it once where the Xaomi was already shattered after a month because it dropped like 200 times. I think there should be a „small“ phone option witch is not a super cheap POS phone which bearly works when new

The hardware looks really good, but yeah, software still needs some work. I suspect this also still ships with Android 11, and thus doesn't have all the foldable tweaks of Android 12 or the upcoming Android 12L. Once those release, the experience will hopefully be better, especially wrt to portrait vs landscape mode. Fwiw, I'm not sure apps always decide on pixel count for the orientation, since there are clearly landscape tablets which work just fine. It's probably just a configuration issue or a problem with having two different screens - one portrait, one landscape.

@@bmhater1283 are you sure? Most sites list it as Android 11, Color OS 12 UI (that's just the skin, not Android!). Also, it doesn't _look_ like it incorporates the Android 12 changes, but it may just be heavily skinned. Regardless, Android 12 isn't perfect yet either for foldables, 12L should hopefully deliver the necessary improvements.

Well, the great thing about having more open system like android, is that you can do virtually anything with it. You can just install custom firmware (although considering phone's unusual features that is not a good option probably), you can go in root mode and tear out all this garbage they installed, replace the virtual keyboard, etc.

Yes this. Many chinese brands only shine in the present and forget the long run user experience. Lack of software updates, bad software optimization and polish, and other things. Chinese brands also love to experiment with crazy tech like these hinges on this oppo, because they don't care if they fail in 1-2 years of use. They will quickly forget about it and try to sell you a new completely different, crazier one. Maybe samsung is trying to stick with what they tested and what they can trust will last many years of use. Too many brands only care about the present... and these reviews also only review them when they are brand new, not with many months of use
@azenyr
@azenyr 2 жыл бұрын
Not to mention they don't have any IP rating on this phone and nothing is said about any mini brushes that auto clean and protect the hinges like the samsung does. So I guess this oppo will not last long, once dust starts to get in that hinge. Remeber that Samsung also has gone the extra mile and actually coated all of the insides of the hinge in an anti rust clear coat, and used water and wear resistant lubricant on the hinge, so that no matter what you do with the phone that hinge will last for sure. OPPO? Did a square foldable with a slightly wider outer screen and that's it. Nothing else was mention, no protections for the hinge, nothing. This whole Linus video was talking about the wider display and a very small already double crease that's not noticeable because it is brand new. Useless video, useless phone. Move on

Gonna be honest. Oppo and xiaomi have made great midrange phones for years now and have recently entered the high end marked and they are rocking it. I had a really hard time deciding for my new midrange phone. Because the xiaomi note 10 5g is almost as feature rich as the galaxy a52s 5g but costs between 50€ to 100€ less. Apps opening automatically to portrait is an easy fix, although KZfaq reviewers keep pointing it out. Just download Rotation Control and set which orientation you want as the default or just set an individual app. These apps have been around since 2012, though it's as if they're purposely being ignored just so people have something else to complain about, oh and iOS has no such utility. It's the same with apps that don't open in full screen when using an Android tablet or foldable phone, as once again it's an incredibly easy fix. Just remember one thing, it's Android, if you thought about, most likely someone else has to and written an app for it.

Having to use a third party app to gain functionality which ought to be baked in is the point, and that point should be hammered home until it's fixed. Rotation control apps aren't some elite secret you're holding. They just shouldn't be necessary. Likewise with apps that don't run in a proper full screen format on tablets such as Instagram and Twitter.
@calden74

It is baked into Android, has been forever now, the issue is with the apps themselves, specifically the developers who write this trash. Anyway, the fix still stands, sure, it might suck that you have to install a workaround but until these developers start caring about Android a little more it's the way things are. In the scheme of things, it doesn't really bother me, as both Instagram and Twitter both run in full screen on my Tab 3 and S7 Tablet using these fixes.
