At 13:15 the Impenetrable thorns sorcery is below the ledge on a platform. It's suggested go up ahead and grab the grace before Messmer and then run back and drop off the ledge for a single bat guarding the sorcery.

At 13:17 if you drop down to the bottom from where the enemy is standing you'll get an Impenetrable Thorns spell. I suggest people to get the grace first before jumping down to make your life easier or else you'll have to run all the way back up again

For anyone struggling with Mesmer fight. All you need is a bleed build. 2 bandit/scavenger curved swords set to occult with seppuku gets the job done very easily. I'm really bad at dodging attacks but was able to beat mesmer in my first try with this build. In total it took me 4 tries as I was using different weapons. I didn't even equip white mask. Just lord of blood, rotten winged, and physical and fire negation charms. Bleed build is still the boss melting build for any boss that can bleed.

The jump @11:40. I found it nearly fool proof to stand on the tallest stack of stone tablets and roll directly off onto the arm. I didn't take any fall damage either.

Found out by complete accident that if you backstep off the ledge you’ll land perfectly onto the arm, right square in the center of it 😂 Thought I was about to die from fall damage lol

You should try solo'ing the bosses, no mimic no npc's. When you're able to do that, you'll see the satisfaction and the real joy of beating a boss, so much better than cheating.

@@vetrix215 you can never compare beating a boss using mimic to beating it alone. You just can’t. You beat the boss when you’re able to solo it not when you hide behind the mimic tanking and hit and run.

Not sure if it's the same one you're missing but I was following the videos religiously and I was missing one as well. Watched another video and discovered that I missed one of those dumb guys with the pots on their heads in Moorth Ruins. I think I got busy fighting that spinning guy with cirques and forgot that there was a pot head dude that disappeared. From the Moorth Ruins site of grace go straight South East through the arch and you will run right into him. But be careful though becasue as soon as you get to him one of those spinny dudes is going to attack you.

In the latest patch they changed the position of certain summon signs. Hornsent's sign is way closer to the door to the Messmer fight. Also, it's much faster to summon him now, just one click will summon him. I spent a good bit of time in phase one looking for that summon sign lol. Still pulled off the win tho. I imagine any of the boss fights with summon signs in the room of the fight have been moved like Igon in the Bayle fight, I didn't look for Thiolier in the Putrescent Knight fight so not sure about that one.

FYI in addition to Hornsent, you can also summon Swordhand of Night Jolan against Messmer assuming you've progressed far enough through Count Ymir's questline. Her summon sign will be to the left in the boss room where Hornsent's would normally be to the right when you enter.

You can also get ansbachs bow if you skip the hornsent/leda fight, talk to leda and then fight for ansbach against leda. You can still get hornsent in the mesmer fight this way too.

Well you see, in Elden Ring when you reset areas NPCs have a tendency to move on to somewhere else. The good news is that if they move on without you talking to them or doing something to progress the story then you’ll most likely just be missing out on lore.

Nah I did the same thing 😂 you just gotta fast travel to high road cross, talk to Leda, sit at the grace, talk to her again, and both of their signs will be in the room they’re supposed to be in.

7:09 - your mimic doesn't waste those items - they get their own copy. This is important because you can deliberately equip high value items like that for your mimic to use, it lets you get a ton of value out of things like rot pots.

I took it more as not leaving junk on your hot bar that would be worthless in a fight. Not that Mimic is wasting 30 bone darts, but it’ll use what’s equipped and no one wants him throwing darts at a boss when he should be slapping him with a legendary weapon.

Messmer boss fight is an all-time great fight. I know there has been some real good games this year, but nothing for me compares to this. This DLC is huge in size and scope. I paid 35 bucks for the DLC, it would be worth it at double the price due to all of the great content.

I can confirm if you missed summoning Hornsent he will show up in the final battle as an enemy so you still get his stuff. Also is ansbach does not show up and the church or bud you get his stuff too

If youre close to Messmer when he does the charge attack ( the one that killed you in the first run) in his second phase, if you roll backwards his animation will actually move you backwards so you're right next to him for an opportunity to attack. ( this also works on Malenias' charge stab attack)

stagblade backhands swords work really well if you jump attack him every opening you get, got super lucky and managed to get a stagger in his 2nd phase lol.

I believe in order to get the Retaliatory Crossed-Tree Talisman and Lacerating Crossed-Tree Talisman you have to side with Leda both times... according to Fextra.

Dude, thank you! I thought I was crazy doubting the @FightinCowboy himself but I share your feeling. Looks to me like we skip a floor in between 7th and top. At 12:56 you can see a ladder we never use and a knight we never kill. In my playthrough I think I even saw a grace on that floor which I didn't manage to get to yet. I'll keep looking but would be great to hear from Cowboy on this!

Just finished this part of the walkthrough. Whilst most players would be sweating through the Messmer fight I was actually crying laughing. My Mimic decided it would be a great idea to use Rotten Breath Dragons Head and Pest Threads whilst the NPC did whatever he was doing. I'd occasionally run in and clobber him with the Bloodfiend Arm buffed with Knights Resolve and run away again. I could almost hear Messmer going "WTF" as he coughed on Rotten Breath and then got smashed with Pest Threads with a club bashing him over the head. Funny AF. By the way - the jump down to the Hand/Arm is made far easier if you are directly inline with the arm rather than at an angle on the circular part of the structure. That way you'll land in the hand which has a larger surface area than the arm, isn't curved (You can slip off which is what happened to me a few times) and is relatively flat.

i managed to get ansbach to leave so I can't get the letter to freya anymore so she is trying to decipher the tablet. NOTE it's suggested to ignore ansbach in the first floor and meet freya first. Unsure why this was designed this way considering you can reach ansbach first but i missed her shield.

FYI: If you port anywhere else before talking to Hornsent, he seems to move forward. I don't know what this means for the quest, but he's no longer in Messmer's chamber after I touched the grace and returned to roundtable hold before speaking with him.

He moved back to the high road grace I think it's called where Leda was and he had the same dialogue there that he woulda had in the dark chamber. For me at least. I compared the dialogue I got there to dialogue right after the fight in the dark chamber.

Took me 2 attempts to beat him without summons, i was actually so surprised lmfao, i did though pretty much learn his moveset in the first attempt so that helped tremendously.

Messmer was no joke lol, took me 5 attempts. My first playthrough, using Longhaft Axe with Savage Lion's Claw Ash of War. Didn't think the Beast Claws had what it took lol. It's my Bestial Incantation Build with Beast Claws, Beast Claw Greathammer, and Longhaft Axe. I'm sure he will be much easier on my stronger builds/characters. Update after finishing the DLC: He appears in the final fight as an enemy, you will get his stuff then.

I wonder if Marika used her Soreseal to seal the flames in Messmer, maybe she used Radagon soreseal in Melina (in her eye that's closed) to seal her flames inside her? And she takes it out when we summon her at the forge. Now her flames aren't sealed in and that's how she burned the Erdtree.

There's a few lists online with locations. Most commonly missed are the pot dudes, hippos, and the one outside shadow keep cause its kinda hidden behind the ledge

How do you trigger the Leda-Ansbach fight if you've decided to skip the Leda-Hornsent fight in order to keep him alive for the rest of his quest ? Is it required to defeat Mesmer to prorgress the questline for Leda to go after Ansbach ?

My flame art faith/str duel greatsword build had no issues with the messmer fight. So fire isn't ineffective. I was actually disappointed in the Messmer fight he looked cool, but it wasn't all that difficult took me maybe 4 tries.

@fightingcowboy since you use the mimic so much, put one of the new full heal pots in you item bar, that way there's a chance your mimic will full heal during the fight and it doesn't cost you anything.

For anyone who isn't seeing Hornsent in Messmer's chamber after the boss fight, check the Highroad Cross site of grace (where he and Leda were before). He should be standing there.

there's two parts of the Black Keep that I can't figure out how to access and they weren't in this video - one is a ladder going into a bookcase and the other is a cage elevator that can be seen from the bridge before Messmer - any help?

So I decide to go against Cowboy exact walk thru and I help leda…I grab the Retaliatory crossed tree talisman… FYI..if u do the same..it doesn’t work. At least not that I can get it to work…I’ve rolled..backstepped…before attacks…during attacks..after attacks… My AP doesn’t change at all. So I decided to test it on a still beast.. The turtle at church of vow…I only used the talisman..or no talisman. Same dmg..same AP…rolling..back stepping Well..that sucks.

Hi cowboy, I have a question you May have an answer for, or at least I Hope. Im doing my First playthrough of sote on ng+2. And I just noticed that I am possibly gaining the same amount of Runes for killing Enemies and bosses, as One would gain on New game. Is this maybe a bug? Or intentional (kinda like chalice dungeons in bloodborne)

At 9:57 if you helped Leda kill Hornsent and go back you will receive from her the Lacerating Crossed Tree Talisman which enhances dash attacks by 15% in PVP and 7.5% in PVE. Once you kill Ansbach you get his full set and Longbow as well as the Retaliatory Crossed Tree Talisman which enhances attacks executed after rolling or backstepping by 17% in PVE and 12% in PVP!

@@BlueXorcist um not really? I didnt check highroad cross like you did. The only difference it make is that the guy didnt invade me later, and i got his weapon a bit later during a brawl instead of when he invaded

So, on episode Part 18: at Messmer and you have 13 blessings, where exactly did I miss them following you? I have 1 fragment picked up just before Messmer. You had to have picked up 2 you didn't show. Any chance you can tell me where?

I got 13 by following his walkthrough. So you must have missed a couple. You can go back through each video to see who posted a time stamped list of all loot throughout. It shouldn’t take long to deduce where you missed them.

@@FreshGanesh My guess is one of his duplicates missed a couple. Multiple episode 1-5 at min. I've gotten plenty since by going off path. I didn't miss any in the video set I followed as I'm super ocd and miss very little.
