Man I’m really sad to hear about the news about Jump Force to be honest. I hope that Gon is brought back in a later crossover game and plays similarly but with a few buffs. When I finish my semester I better try to make that final push to A rank with Gon before rank gets shut down.

Wow this is the best Gon player I’ve ever seen by far. I feel like only players that have used Gon as their main can fully appreciate the amount of skill it takes to use Gon at this level. I learned so much from just watching him play and realized I’ve been using him all wrong. I thought Gon’s biggest strength was his damage and the only way to consistently capitalize on it was to be an escape chase god. I was wrong. Gon may have great damage but what good is going for the highest damage combos all the time if you can’t land them consistently? Clearly Gon’s biggest strengths are his mix ups and super armor, which give you tons of resets if utilized correctly. I knew Jajanken was a versatile technique but I never knew when to use it or how to land it outside of the standard 3 lights or 2 heavies into it. Now it seems more beneficial to go for Jajanken resets with 2 lights or 1 heavy after scissors because you force the enemy to make a decision and if they don’t make the right one their in for some serious damage. If you can read your opponent well enough then there is almost nothing they can do to avoid a Jajanken attack. If they block hit them with rock, if they sidestep, to your right, use scissors and then follow up with whatever you want, if they sidestep to the left sidestep into rock to break guard, if they backstep use paper (then if you have temper front step and use scissors or rock or alternatively do double paper into ultimate), if they grab backstep and use paper (then if you have temper you can follow up with any of the previous things said above). They could chose to escape to avoid this game of chance but the beauty of the reset is you will always have a chance to escape chase (unlike with the standard 3 lights into Jajanken combo) and even if you don’t get the chase you are forcing the enemy to waist their stamina a lot, which gives you more opportunities to land normal combos with Jajanken. As far as I can tell the only way to ensure you don’t get hit by a Jajanken attack, during the reset combos this guy is doing, is to either have a fast super/ultimate to spam or to awaken.

Yes exactly gon has some scary mix ups and if they somehow fun a way out you can cancel your ability. He also has a grab into ult which is nice If they think you’re going to use scissors or paper. This person is the only one I saw using gon like this which is why I wanted to share it :)
@jacobharris58943 жыл бұрын
Dextursmage シ I’ve certainly seen my fair share of good/decent Gon players out there, I would like to think that I’m one of them but this guy is on another level and has a completely different play style. This guy makes even Gon play from s rank fights I’ve seen look like child’s play. I hope as many Jump Force players as possible can see this because then they would realize that Gon is a monster in the right hands. This is how Gon is meant to be played.

Sup, I’m a bit late to the party but I play gon too so I thought I’d share. If you didn’t know, you can do 3 lights into janken but if they choose to escape, you may press block to cancel the janken and if you do it fast enough you can still dash for an escape chase off the stance. Also you can cleanly land a janken after a down tilt if you’re good, they won’t be able to roll out of it or stop it aside from a chase. Just some food for thought. I was able to land 6 janken in one combo so he has a lot of potential. He’s just a bit more tricky to play against evasive types like cell with pb or kane
@Dextursmage3 жыл бұрын
Yeah he has some nice resets. Overall he’s pretty good I just wish his combo strings were better. Thanks for sharing bro! Always nice to see a gon player
@jacobharris58943 жыл бұрын
You can use Jajanken after a down tilt? This is news to me and I’ve been playing Gon for like a year. That will be extremely useful for catching escapers with Jajanken. Edit: How do you do it? I haven’t been able to get it to work without an assist after the downtilt. Edit: I finally realized you can only do it when their in the air. You can land Jajanken after two heavies into a half downtilt or you can do four lights into a downtilt to land it. If you just landed scissors you can do a lone downtilt to land another Jajanken if you just wait a bit. I just tested it and it allows Gon to do up to three Jajanken's by himself. Absolutely insane.
@jacobharris58943 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’ve gotten much better with Gon after watching this video. I’ll still struggling against evasive people and people that like to spam supers because Gon doesn’t really have any special moves to counter it. You have no choice but to rush them with lights, unless you use your assist, which makes it easy for them to counter you by spamming supers. I wish Gon had another super that was a little faster and had some range, so I can punish people that constantly back step away from me. You just need pure skill to counter evasive players and you have to be super patient. I wish I could see this guy play more games against other players so I could find some strategies of dealing with it. I also need to practice escape chasing off Jajanken or in general because escapers are problematic even when I go for resets. Resets are good for landing the first Jajanken but it is easy for them to escape if you try to follow up with another reset because I believe there is a window of opportunity where you can’t chase when you are going for a heavy (I’ll have to check that later with split screen.) The hardest part with Gon in general is landing the first hit in a combo because his normals are slower than most of the roster and at best have average range other than his downtilt. So if your fighting a very aggressive opponent it can be difficult too because you have to rely on sidesteps to reliably land lights since they are most likely faster than you. Except if your fighting a button masher with someone like Ichigo they’ll fly across the map and you won’t be able to punish them because they’ll get too far away before you can attack. I just got an idea where maybe you could sidestep them then immediately backstep since that has quite a bit of range. Then hopefully you can land an air combo, extend it with Dai assist and then land Jajanken. Either that or I could just call Dai assist while I’m sidestepping if I’m allowed to do that. I have no idea if either of those things will work though. I haven’t tested it and won’t be able too for a couple days since my grandmother died and I’m out of town.

Hey guys for anyone interested I just discovered a new way to land multiple Jajankens with Gon which significantly increases the amount of damage Gon can do in solo combos. Remember how pre-patch Gon could do three lights into double scissors into another three lights followed by scissors, rock combo? Well Gon can basically still do that except you got to do a delayed downtilt after scissors. If you lead with scissors Gon can actually do three Jajanken attacks in a combo solo, without assists, using only downtilts. And if you want you can even add a fourth Jajanken and an ultimate at the end with an assist, although damage wise it's not really worth it. You might be skeptical and think they can roll out of it but try it. I've tested it in split screen and wasn't able to roll out of it as long as I didn't delay the downtilt too much. I also tried it against the CPU multiple times and the CPU never once rolled out of it. The opponent can't roll for a surprisingly long time after scissors hits but it is kind of difficult to know exactly how long to delay attacking to lead with a downtilt. I already briefly mentioned this in another comment thread and in another comment I edited but I thought this was significant enough to mention in a main comment. I don't know if Joseph Bolton already knew about it but he gave me the idea to see if the combo worked and surprisingly it did.
