Focus on the Family

He thought his faith was strong. But when his son was diagnosed with autism, Jason Hague began to question everything he knew about God. In this Focus on the Family broadcast, Jason talks to Jim Daly and John Fuller about living with a broken heart and an unanswered prayer. He unpacks the challenges and joys of parenting a child with special needs, and shares how he keeps faith in God and hope in the future, even when life looks nothing like he expected it to.

I can relate to so much of this. Our marriage massively struggled too. It drove my husband away to secret addiction. He was distant. I was ratty. When our disabled child was a baby it was so hard. He’s almost 7 now and we’ve got through those tough days. We are now Christians. Our children have brought us so much joy. To any parent going through this, keep going, things do get better when you turn to the Lord and ask for help.

My daughter is 4.5 with severe autism. Getting that diagnosis it felt like I was mourning a death thinking about the life I know now she will never live. I'm in tears just hearing the story of someone else going through the same thing. My wife and I are afraid to try and have another child at this point. It has been very difficult for my wife and I to find joy in the world. I hope in time I can let my anger go. Its destroying my life.

Thank you, Jim and John, for having me on the show! It was an honor. I was sorta hoping that Mr. Whittaker would be in on the interview, but oh well...

You anchor yourself to Christ. He's all you have. He's the only Truth in this corrupted and deceptive world. Thing is, Jesus is all we have and need to begin with. After 28 years of reading, praying and attempting to understand just some of the mysteries of God...I've come to the conclusion that God's purposes are being served in our family to help magnify His glory and kingdom. It doesn't matter that I don't understand. I'm not ENTITLED to understand, but to just believe on Him. And I do. I just hope and pray that when I stand before Him, that He knows me by name and is not disappointed with me. It's clear that our pain, sufferings and sorrow have been turned into blessings for us and Him. I now know we could've never made it through this without Him.
