The tactics of great commanders are timeless. Even in an age of steel and musket, Alexander's genius shines

And that's how you use cav in Napoleon. Superb showcase of how they should be used to threaten, harass and disrupt enemy lines.

Wow dude, you talk like a real boss. Through out the entire battle video the tension was maintained very well and the commentary made it all the more immersing. (hearing commentary of opposition could be an interesting addition) I love your knowledge of tactics and historic references that make everything sound so realistic. - I'm a noob that just started with 'Total War: Empire' and am a little lost at the moment, and I'm sure that I'm not alone, so helpful guides on how to use different unit types and tactics to help you win battles battles in overpowered situations would be very much appreciated.

An excellent example of the use of sound doctrine by a well read and articulate player! It started as Alexander at Gaugamela yes, but the middle and end part was PURE Napoleon, in the masterful use of interior lines and piercing the enemy joint. Well done.

I believe Julius Caesar was more respectful to his men. In one time when he was heading back to Rome, he was in the English Channel, a few ships with 300 men were lost and went to Gaul territory, he went to their rescue. No casualties.

Great video! This battle reminded me especially of Frederick the Great's victory at the battle of Rossbach where he too baited the enemy into a fixed position then smashed into the enemy's flanks. It's also very cool to see similarities between Alexander the Great and Frederick the Great fighting in two very different time periods. As you said, certain strategies are timeless!
@stand-alone010 жыл бұрын
He most likely studied Alexander IV the Great, any general should. Also, those certain timeless strategies often have more to do with psychology versus technology.

It's amazing to see how much his channel has changed. I remember just a few years ago watching some of these videos of total war from him when I was interested in the game. Yesterday I watch one of his misunderstood moments in history videos, completely unaware, and today I reinstalled Napoleon Total War and decided to rewatch them. I look at his channels photo and to my surprise, I realize its the same person.

@THFE XLNT job, sir. Even though you posted this almost 3 yrs ago, it's still one of the better How-to-play-a-Total-War-game tutorials. Great content and a clear, low-fat/lots-of-meat narrative. A great example of how to adapt real-world tactics to these games. I especially enjoy your explanations re optimum asset assignments -- i.e., how and why you used specific units to accomplish various tasks. Thanks for sharing. :-) "It's like I told my close, personal friend, Colonel Custer. Sometimes you've just got to take a stand..."

Coming from Rome II I am finding that I am naturally using my cavalry in more ancient styles, some nasty shocks but used cleverly they are still devestating. Latest game I used 3 units of cav to take out all enemies artillery and several units of rifles with very little losses. May I ask how you move your units into these formations so easily? I always drag and drop

@canttellyoumate10 жыл бұрын
Empire has a greater scope and grand feel to the game, and the feeling of fighting wars on a global scale is unmatched. However, Napoleon's battles and mechanics are more polished. Ultimately it's just whether you want the former or the latter.

this was just newer player, you won not because your "great plan" , but because he did not do anything to oppose your strong flank. Any good player would just go back on your right, so your tired elite can not catch him. and then with his cav and superior light and inf destroy your left because there is where you are weak and can not retreat because he have cav on that side. and then you are left with just tired elite.

Know this is a real old vid but I have to ask. Does the tactic revolve around baiting the enemy out of position and splitting their forces?
@peettims65695 жыл бұрын
Precisely that. The key is to maneuver your forces to force the enemy to match you. Its much like tenis. Dont play defensively. Force your opponent to where you want them to be. Then press the advantage. The division of the enmey team in this match was perfect.

I agree, the first Rome total war game is pretty easy. play as Rome first (Julii faction), do the tutorial, and most of it you will get as you go. Its not that hard of a game series if you play on easy first til you understand the basics of the game. Its the multiplayer battles where you need to have tactics pretty down (im not good enough for online play lol)

woot man my vote is Shogun 2, ive had very very few bug problems (3?) over the course of nearly 4 years. still looks awesome, unit collision doesnt have problems, tech and build trees are new-user friendly but offer different builds for veterans, and while not having the 300+ unit variety you see in TW Napoleon and either Rome, the lesser unit count makes for quicker understanding and deeper unit strategies
