Hello everyone! I’ve had requests for videos on how to spin. Here is a video on sit and upright spin on Pic Skates. I’m a master level adult figure skater as well as a full time coach and skating director. During this self isolation it’s been hard on everyone. Hope you are doing well and if you need any Pic Skates tips just message me. :)

This video was a big help. I couldn't spin on the PIC skates because I had to pitch too far forward and it was too awkward. I switched to Snow White and have found them easier to work with (the adjustable toe stopper was the advantage over PIC). Tip: take your figure skates and rocker them forward on a flat surface until the first tooth of the toepick touches the surface, then measure the distance from the bottom of the heel to the surface. Adjust the toe stopper of the the Snow White blade downward, until the distance when rockered forward is the same as the figure skate. This really helped me.

3 hours on a sit spin 😂 I relate. Such a helpful breakdown of spins- I had no idea. Two weeks on pic skates for me- it’s so different from ice.

@@baysidefigureskater Thanks. I ordered my pic skates 3 months ago but just got it delivered to me one week ago. So I tried with my pic skates for one week, and barely can do with it for crossovers and 3 turns, but couldn't do them as smooth as I did on ice rink, not mentioning about spins. Spins look like a daunting task for me. Maybe it will take a few months?

Thank you so much for this video and the helpful information! It has been really frustrating adjusting to wheels and not being able to feel my edges, and slipping off the deep "edges" instead of getting the usual grip of the edge on ice. This has been so reassuring and helpful! Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Hey Alistair! We should go PIC/Snow White roller blading together! Like you I miss the feel of actual edges when ice skating, but inline is at least a way to practice some basics. I'm barely able to do a 1-foot spin in mine, but I've been able to learn all my singles except lutz and axel.

Thanks so much for teaching about staying on the front wheel for spins - such a helpful point for me to learn since I'm waiting for my first pair of Pic skates to arrive in the mail! You also taught me another extremely important point that you have to be very inside for the spins -- the good camera views of your spins were super helpful too. I'm a self-taught figure skater (intermediate level I would say) and excited to try the Pic skates! Thanks again for such a helpful video!! So glad I found this video, I would have been in the dark without it!

Hi! I haven't used mine in a while. I appreciate how hard it is to adapt as it's a different kind of skating all together. Just when all the rinks closed I needed something to keep in shape for figure skating. I was just getting back into it when CoVid hit; three yrs after I went back. I was even teaching kids. Well, I will watch your videos and take any tips I can get. I wonder, if analyzing so much, do you find it's helped your figure skating? I'm getting crash pads, thx.

I do think it helped my ice skating. The wheels are heavier so when I went back to blades I felt light! It was easier to jump.

Hi, Hope you can reply and help me! I bought GH figure frame (99% identical to Snowwhite) for my Icefly boots (I do figure skating as well). And I sold them after a couple of days because that damm toe stopper hinders me doing spins (AND that adjustable stopper is not stable, but wobbly because of screw system) and the 3 wheels made me feel like I will fall back hard whenever I lose slight weight balance. Backward skating also put my weight towards the stopper, so it was hard to keep the speed. and changing of edges seemed impossible. It was a totally different feeling compared to ice, I felt sad because where I live (Melb, Australia) has the longest and the strictest lockdown in the world since March.. Yes,, March! I used to skate almost everyday for the last 3 years and now, not being able to skate makes me go insane. I am now planning to buy PIC 994 4 wheel frame with the ball pic like yours because based on my research, 4 wheel gives a bit more stability and the ball pic make easier to have in/out edge and spins as well as jumps. I do really need someone who is experienced in pic skates able to share opinion./thoughts/advice. I am dying to do jumps, spins and feel as close as possible to ice... I also purchased GLICE synthetic ice panels, but despite the reputation of the brand, synthetic is just synthetic. Friction really slows me down and warms up my blades too quickly. Can you please let me know if PIC skates are close to ice or you are experienced in 4 wheels as well? I can't sit down and wait for the rinks to open.. this lockdown is just crazy...

Bummer! I’m sorry to hear that you still don’t have ice. The plastic ice just isn’t the same you are right. I prefer the 3 wheels because you really don’t need a 4th wheel and it just adds weight. The Golden Horse aren’t rockered like an ice blade. That’s why I like the Pic skate because it has a rocker. The Golden horse the wheel sizes make a rocker but it’s not the same. But I do have friends that love golden horse but they are roller skaters not just figure skaters. Make sure you have the right type of wheels. I switched indoor wheels since I skate mostly inside. It made my skating so much better!

Awesome!! Do you think learning to spin on that inside edge on inlines will mess up your spin technique when you get on the ice? My spins on ice tend to collapse into the inside edge already, no matter what I do
@baysidefigureskater
@baysidefigureskater 3 жыл бұрын
They are a lot different then ice. When I’m on ice I know I’m on an inside edge but I don’t try to get on an inside edge if that makes sense. I try to stay neutral but I know that the direction of my spin will put me on an inside edge without forcing it.

If you could go back and get the best skate and wheels for transitioning to ice from rollerblading which would they be?
@baysidefigureskater
@baysidefigureskater 3 жыл бұрын
I think the gold seal blade transitions between ice to wheels best. The wheels have an aggressive rocker like a gold seal.

Yes because I don’t live anywhere near or have access to an ice rink which is dreadful because I want to be a figure skater, I have been a regular inline skater and can do two kinds of leaps, just the 180 and the 360 leap, because on regular in lines your testing God on your life so no thanks about that, lol, but I have been working on my spin balance off of my second feet, so on some slick bottom shoes on hardwood, so it’s smooth, and I am getting better about that but if I can’t do it off my wheels than I for sure can’t on my wheels, my legs are in so ,ugh pain because I’ve been trying to stretch my hamstring further than it’s flexibility limit, my goal is to be able to do the splits, but I am doing that so that I can raise my back foot up far enough to be able to grab the back wheel and hold my leg in a straight line as I’ve seen other people do, I am also working on my own in line “figure skating” routine with my best friend and we weave in and out of each other. I am 15 and she is 12, but i for am needing to learn how to actually do a basic spin, so I would really love it if you could do a video on basic one turn spins, maybe ten minutes long because I need it so badly it’s fine if you can’t or if you don’t see this comment, I just need to know more about how you are able to build speed and still turn, but also keep balance, I also don’t have 3 wheeled pic skates which I would love to have but unfortunately can’t afford at the moment or probably ever, oof, I love to ride anything that has wheels. I have so much things that you get in and ride. Both my quad and inline skates, I do tricks on both, my skateboard, I can do some tricks on that, a rip stick, and heel wheels, but those are just a few examples. Anyways sorry, but I love your tutorials, would love a basic spin for inlines .
@baysidefigureskater
@baysidefigureskater 3 жыл бұрын
That’s unfortunate you don’t live near a rink but the in-lines are great! Yes, can totally do a short one foot basic spin video. Did you want a video with the leg just to the side and not crossed? I can also show a few different entrances. The 4 wheel is a little heavier which I heard is hard on jumps but for spins you shouldn’t noticed much of a difference. You still spin on the front wheel either way. :) Hopefully I can do this video this week. But if not next week.

Would you say 4 wheels is more similar to ice figure skating than 3 wheels is? Im thinking it would be more similar because with 4 wheels you are closer to the ground. Also with 4 wheels do you think it will be possible to spin on the first 2 wheels and not need the toestop to spin? Thanks great video btw
@baysidefigureskater
@baysidefigureskater 4 жыл бұрын
They will feel the same. The only difference is you can lean back more which won't help or hurt your spin. The 3 wheel and 4 wheels 2nd wheel back is spaced out the same. On the 3 wheel there is a bigger space between the 2nd and 3rd wheel. If that makes sense? I can send you a photo of that spacing if you want.

@@baysidefigureskater Oh! One more thing. I see in competitions that all the skaters doing double and triple jumps that they ALL have only 3 wheels. Is that just tradition or are jumps easier with 3 wheels?
@baysidefigureskater
@baysidefigureskater 4 жыл бұрын
Rachel Rauch Most do compete with 3 wheels because you don’t really need the back wheel. Also keep in mind most are coming from quad skates where the wheel ends at the heel. So roller quad skaters having over hang in that back would throw them off. If you are coming from a figure skating background the back wheel probably won’t throw you off much. Don’t worry the 4 wheels are just just as good. :)
