Kostornaia's technique looks really old school when you run them all side by side like this! "Bigger is better" vs "faster is better." I have more faith in bigger jumps but there's something to be said for the flow in the fast ones .

When Tanya and Midori did their 3A, it was still new to women's skating. I love the total joy on their faces when they completed theirs.

Midori is/was truly a naturally gifted athlete. The shear height of her jumps is unreal. Proper technique allowed her to do whatever she wanted with her jumps. Never ever had any issues with under rotation. Absolutely believe Midori Ito's programs could still win titles today 20, 30 years later. Surya Bonaly also pushed bar with jumping.

Aliona‘s 3A is just out of this World. The height + this elegance = 👑

When you put Kostornaia and Midori Ito's axel side by side in the end was just amazing. The height and elegance they both got. I hope Kostornaia has her axel back, because even with a rippon, her triple axel still has the best entry and height.

Kostornaia's jumps are so air and light.. an it is a real classic.. Masterpiece in my opinion

Я просто любитель фигурного катания, это красиво и захватывающе. На мой взгляд, сильно изменились сопутствующие элементы. Заход перед прыжком и выход из него - это теперь сложнейшая система, и с точки зрения хореографии как это всё вплетено в программу! Прыжки в прошлом выглядят как отдельно стоящий подвиг, а сегодня как элемент хореографической программы. Видимо, сильно изменился тренерский подход, появились новые методы и инструменты, помогающие фигуристам добиться нужной легкости в исполнении. Прогресс не стоит на месте, многие девчонки уже четверные прыгают вовсю!!

Can't thank you enough for this vid! I was always a 90s skating fan, seeing the difference with today is exciting. What I see today is that jumps don't tend to be that high, is more about rotation and quads. Midori is amazing, unmatched even to today's standard, the height and power she had is unreal.

Midori is still the 3A queen when it comes to height...it's ridiculously high.. Alena's 3A has good height and is more elegant. The skaters of the 90s have way better 3Lutz techniques than the current skaters. Overall, figure skating has improved beautifully.

The thing about Tonya and Midori's jumps is that they got so much height that there was just a ton of time when they completed rotation before hitting the ice. It was just really beautiful and powerful. A lot of the ones we see now are lower and the skier spins really fast, but it completes just as they hit the ice, or even after. It just isn't as thrilling to me.

Kostornaya's triple axle is absolutely mesmerizing. Even the entrance in which she exhibits when executing her triple axle is phenomenal.

Transitions, that's the difference between past and current jump. Even 3A can be made more difficult like Alena did in 2019-2020 season. Other 3 jumps like 3Lo by Kaori is another example where jump is perfectly blended into the program via transitions.

That russian lady Alena's jump caught my heart. She utilises her whole body effectively to my eyes.

Какие красивые русские девочки. Само изящество, тоненькие, длиноногие, как тростиночки на ветру, движения все плавные. Диву даешься за счёт чего ей удаётся так высоко прыгнуть и, главное нет, никакого напряжения, лёгкость в каждом движении.

Раньше публика неистовствовала от каждого удачного прыжка,ликовала,а в наше время спокойно смотрят на чудеса четверных прыжков.Привыкли!
