In this video, I go through the features and specification of the Fiido T1 Pro utility cargo ebike that I used on my recent Peddars Way trip. I don’t normally do review videos, but I was very impressed with the performance of this long range bike, that I wanted to share my thoughts on it with you.
With a very impressive range, a range of gear and speed settings, lots of cool features that let you load it up for bikepacking trips, a huge carrying capacity and a nice stealthy paint finish, I was very excited to put it to the test on a long ride.
50 miles up the Peddars Way, off-road, muddy, hilly (in parts) and in Winter seemed like a good test to me, what I wasn’t expecting was the additional 24 miles I managed to squeeze out of the battery on the return journey - very impressive by anybodies standard.
Its my new off-road woodland assault vehicle, and its huge amounts of fun!
Just to reiterate what I said at the beginning of the video, please check the regulations for the use of ebikes in your country as they vary and often the use of a throttle to allow pure electric drive is not permitted.
If you are unsure, you can contact Fiido at service@fiido.com who will aim to reply within 24hrs.
I hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching.

Yes, why should we accept that politicians and authorities make a difference between Europe and the USA? Is the American more considerate, more mature to handle more powerful engines on the bikes? The authoritarian people put themselves over us and decide at the same time that they themselves cross the boundaries in one way or another. Is it possibly to milk us for more taxes and insurance money for the companies? Hypocrisy is probably a good word in this context.

@@erik7452 the electric scooters that you stand up on are technically illegal in the UK yet there are companies that offer for rent to the public. The UK really is fucked on the matter. The police threatened to take my ebike that I use for work but I refused to give it to them, I gave them my throttle instead so I could be on my way and just put another one on the day after

@@manoz6194 well done for not allowing yourself to be bullied by the UK cops 👏👍 In my area they can't be bothered to go after the numerable balaclava wearing stolen Surron riders that whizz around the streets amongst the pedestrians, but they will stop and harrass a high-viz clad man on his scooter doing 8mph on his way to work 🤬🤷‍♂️

I just received my T1 pro and took it for my first run did 26 miles had a great time bike is strong and gives you confidence when riding above the 20 mph speeds ! can see this being my new camping transport vehicle five ⭐️ (update) Been four months now covered 312miles so far and I’m certainly not cutting my throttle, I’ve never been stopped once, did have a police officer tell me the bike looked cool though. In short if you don’t ride it like a plonker you can comfortably de restrict the bike and use the throttle as and when you need.

This is what I really appreciate about all of your videos. Not only are they well filmed, informative and wonderfully relaxing (in a world of loud youtube content creators!), but if you spot something you aren't happy with, you immediately either pull or alter the video and admit you made an error. I wish more people were like you. Keep up the great work.

Like the update, and now we know you are going to do another ride to show the power cutback version... in USA many places require helmets for bicycles Anyway, lights and so on also...it should have probably mounted with the moped required lights and whatever legal. I am curious about the motor action if you were to switch to all motor. You might wish you hadn't cut the throttle control off. Would the throttle have been legal on the bike if it was only for trail use? A rack on the back of Landrover for getting to trails?

I've been researching this myself. Fido EU have some nice-looking bikes, but most are illegal here in the UK. In my area, 3 ebike riders were prosecuted last week. It's not a simple slap on the wrist fine, either. It's riding without a helmet, riding without insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle on the road, etc., and all resulted in actual driving bans. This means you can lose your 'other' means of transport too, probably suffer highly inflated insurance premiums etc. in the future as you will have to disclose a traffic prosecution, driving without insurance, etc. I was tempted to do the same and asked fido if the throttle could be removed (no response), but given the severity of the possible punishment...

Shame you felt the need to remove the throttle. I have 2 Fiido D2S bikes and one of the key features I wanted was a throttle to aid with pulling away . The police are never in a million years going to bother people using them, they may use scaremongering through social media etc to put people off but they simply haven't the time to police it. Last summer we used them so much when out in our campervan going to surrounding places and seeing places we wouldn't normally see. Really liked both videos look forward to future episodes

I found that rather than putting extra weight on the bike, get some 15mm copper tubing and attach it to back frame. I did mine either tightly wound strips of rubber. The mod I did is still attached to the bike and so far has lasted me 5000 miles with no bother at all. Regards from King’s Lynn

I can't scoot along like that on the throttle assist...mine does 4mph tops with an ordinary sized person, with my heavy butt and all my gear, it'll be greatly reduced and is only useful as an aid to get the bike moving in order for the pedal assist to kick in. 15.5mph...I'm happy with 10mph. I remember doing 37mph downhill on a racer and the speed wobble was scary. At 58 years old, it isn't the speed, but the ability to get there safely and the journey's sights

the 250W restriction is a bit of a walk around by the manufacturers, by the letter of the law the motor needs to display a 250W marking on it, but this is nominal value (whatever the manufacturer wants really) . Most completely legal pedal assist e-bikes in the UK have 400-750W motors in them with a "250W" sticker

I have an e-bike in the states. It was detuned from 1000 watts to 500. I reversed it. That is done by unhooking one wire (already in there) from the controller and hooking up another. Yours is undoubtedly the same. Look inside and check online. You would benefit from the upgrade and the police won't know. Also, the restrictions you mentioned probably do not apply in the woods or on private property. That looks like a VERY nice bike.

UK legislation does allow a throttle up to 6 km/h (3.7 mph). This is commonly known as "walk assist", and was intended for walking a bike uphill. "Walks Assist" was commonly made available as a simple button with speeds controlled by changing gears. Using a throttle for walk assist is becoming more popular because it give you a simple way of initially accelerating.
@Sarge92
@Sarge92 Жыл бұрын
the ultra silly part is a throttle is actually SAFER the idiots who made throttles illegal did so under the notion that pedal assist just helps you out a little the harder you pedal the more if gives you a push thats not how it works there are a few bikes that do indeed do this they use torque sensors but those cost too much for most ebikes so the rest have cadence sensors which just care that the pedals are turning they then dump full power for the mode your in you could pedal at 1 rpm and the motor is going to give you full power 15mph the pedaling portion is redundant then there's the fact that whilst trying to pedal slowly your bike is jolting full power on and off as your coasting and giving the odd pedal to push a little bit finally throttle is actually safer if your using the roads because it gives you immediate ready to go movement without needing to set pedals and push off and change through gears so instead of smooth throttles where you decide the power we have novelty throttles that require you clown pedal and then get whomped with full power with no adjustability beyond the 3-5 settings the controller gives
@Moshimulations
@Moshimulations Жыл бұрын
@@Sarge92 It is safer. I use the throttle to get me going to about 6MPH before I could use pedal assist where it would be a smooth and comfy ride. Like what, I am not forcing the traffic to stop cause my pedal assist has a major delay, it is also safer in places were pedestrians tend to be walking across as you have better control over the bike unlike with a pedal assist only situation. Thankfully there are bikes that have little delay but my bike was a tad cheaper so I had to make do. By the way, all the assist levels are the same level of thrust only that it is more delayed which may cause an accident, at least on my bike. Twisting the throttle a few times to get going is much better than only pedal assist as that seizes my ability to stop in time, especially when a ped crosses the road without looking or due care.

I was going to mention that. The law really is an ass. Gently pedaling will make the motor kick in. Pedaling hard gives you the same power as having the throttle and pedaling hard. The throttle merely provides convenience. It seems to me to be one of those situation where the law is decided by people who have never even ridden a bicycle, let alone an ebike. In the country where I live, the throttle is allowed, thankfully, and probably accounts for the very high numbers of ebike riders.

pedal sensor requirement was passed by lawmakers who think pedal assist means the harder you pedal the harder it powers you there's only 1 system that does this which is torque sensors and no one uses them aside from a small handfull of companies the rest use cadence sensors which just care that the pedals are moving at all

@@kevindblew6822 you pedal and the bike whomps you with full throttle basically the bike now has 5 speed modes each triggered at there full power by the pedals moving which is clearly safer than a throttle which allows near infinite amount of power choice and control over acceleration rates I've had it happen many times where ill go to adjust pedal position whilst coasting slowly but turn the pedals just enough to trigger the pedal assist and send the bike flying along at full throttle for 2-5 seconds until the controller cuts power from me not pedaling banning throttles is the dumbest restriction they placed

The UK e-bike rules are similar to ours in Australia. Up to 250 watts - OK, no throttle over 200 watts, anything over 250w to be registered, insured etc. A 750 watt motor governed to 250w ? Don't think that would pass the test here - the cops look for stamped 250 watts on the motor cover. The cops don't seem to know about battery volts though so the 48v would get past them and provide an extra boost. There has been some daft commentary here about allowing larger motors but setting an overall speed limit for e-bikes. 750 watt motor but bike the subject of a 25 kph speed limit? ! Most bikes with a reasonably fit rider and no motor easily go faster than that along the flat and certainly downhill so I wouldn't like to see that. Looking forward to your upcoming videos, especially now spring is in the air up there.

Yeah. Reading the uk gov site. It says anything with over 250w is illegal for use on UK roads and is classed as a motor vehicle.. needs to be labelled as 250w having the 750 w label and ‘restricted’ to 250w electronically will not fly… as the Australian commenter says the police will see the 750w badge and say it is not compliant. You would need a letter of compliance to prove it falls under uk e-bike rules.

Nice bike! I commute 35 km on an e-bike and cold weather does indeed lower the capacity of the battery. I recon about 15-20% when you go sub zero.

I ordered one last Saturday, March 11th and the cost for me was shown to be $1499 Canadian after a $200 voucher but I just saw now that they charged me $2083 plus $34 in transaction fees. Do you have any knowledge of that because I can't even get a hold of them

Good video Simon, I've been looking into getting a 750w bike because I live high up a hill and I have multiple sclerosis, so I really need to support (and the power I guess). Can you let me know how you think the Fiido will do up a long hill if it's capped at 250w? Thanks 🙂

Simon, a quick question for you. Is the motor wire from the controller to the motor still a single continuous wire, or is there a join. A continuous cable means that you can't remove the freewheel without a lot of work either dismantling the controller, or cutting the cable and rejoining it. It is or was a big design flaw.

I was interested to see you have removed the thumb throttle from your bike. My first Ebike had a thumb throttle but the speed when using it was limited to 4mph. It was very handy to get going when mounting the bike. If I had been you I would have left the throttle in place. The chance of you ever being challenged by the boys in blue are vanishingly small. They can't even respond to fairly serious crimes these days. I look forward to seeing your future adventures on the bike.

I agree, the throttle and speed limits in England are pretty harsh. Where I live in the states the speed limit is 28 mph with throttle only and it is still a bicycle.

On the issue of throttles. I'm from Australia with pretty much the same regulations... what I've found quite hilarious with my own ebike is that the maximum peddle assist mode is several orders of magnitude more powerful than throttle alone. Throttle does about 17km/h, max assist does about 25-27km/h (the legal limit for ebikes here). So really, just doing what I call 'fake peddling' (peddling slower than the speed of the motor) is already more effective than throttle. Yet that's considered 'legal'. And it's still just a 250w motor. My 'foil hat' thinking is that they couldn't possibly let the plebs get a whiff of freedom and then lose out on motor vehicle taxes etc.

The Police won’t batter a eye lid at one these it’s only really the big Surron like bikes and e-scooters that grab their attention. If your under 500w and not going obviously quicker than a bicycle turning the peddles being sensible you be fine and will probably never get stopped because you just blend in with normal bikes.

It's such a strange "quirk" of the law that you can use pedal assist to ride at 15mph, but using a throttle to go the EXACT SAME speed is illegal.... I would understand using a throttle to go 60mph, but in this case it seems to make very little difference to the safety of the bike as far as I can tell. Regarding the bike. I don't usually like this sort of bike, but this thing has a pretty cool "utilitarian" vibe that I kinda dig. I'm not convinced by the alloy wheels, as I have no experience with them and there may be a reason more companies don't do it, but I'm sure they'll be sturdy! The only thing it needs is tyres with a bit more bite!

So Simon, after 5 months, how do you like that Fiido? I am giving some very serious consideration to getting one. One the Fiido web site I read in the motor section that the motors will last about 500 hours, that's approximately an hour a day for two years. They list motors for everything but the T1, and the batteries are $650 USD + freight. Anyway, I thought I would see what your thoughts were. Perhaps a follow up video?...

A UK throttle IS legal if it is limited to 6 kph, or 4 mph, as it usually is on a bike with a cadence (speed) sensor. You can use it in 'walk assist mode' to help you push the bike up steps or a steep hill, for example. It also assists in getting off the mark until the sensor kicks in and starts giving you power, which can take up to two or three turns of the pedals. Edit; I don't actually know if the T1 Pro has a cadence sensor, as opposed to a torque sensor (which is much better), but the (stupid 🤬) law is the same in both cases.

Rack mount. I used pipe mounts one for rack one for a 10mil tube I mounted to accept bag clip. Bolted together so you have two tubes the thinner outer one for bag.

Crazy how the rules are different over there in England, having to remove the throttle & adding turn signals & license,seems like it’d take all the fun out of your E-bike. Another great honest vid Simon! & I know y’all call it the U.K. 🤷‍♂️

actually the turn signals and moped registration are for msva which upgrades your bike to 1000w+ with a top speed for 24mph just to have the throttle you actually need type certification which gets you throttle allowance but the manufacturer has to apply for this

The throttle to be is weird as even with having it the bike can't go beyond the adjusted speed limit without modifying the bike to go faster. Yet the turn signal requirement to me makes alot of sense since honestly if you are going at speed even if 25 mph having to remove your hand to signal a turn or lane change could be pretty dangerous, but having a turn signal indicator is safer an also something drivers are used to needing to see more than hand signals.

Simon you are just too kind! Why should we accept that politicians and authorities make a difference between Europe and the USA? Is the American more considerate, more mature to handle more powerful engines on the bikes? The authoritarian people put themselves over us and decide at the same time that they themselves cross the boundaries in one way or another. Is it possibly to milk us for more taxes and insurance money for the companies? Hypocrisy is probably a good word in this context. Continue with the work. Cheers!
