The Rugby World Cup's history is littered with sensational games, but few live in the memory quite as well as the rare occasion where the underdogs have beaten rugby powerhouses.
In 2007, Fiji and Wales faced off in a winner-takes-all Pool B clash in Nantes, with the winner through to the quarter finals and the loser dumped from the competition.

I watched this match in Camp Bastion NAAFII start of Herrick 7 before deployed to Musa Qallah. On one side we’re the Welsh Royal Marines, opposite them were the Fijians and few English. Good times. RIP Judo Johnno + Damo and all who never made it home.

Then why can't Wales defeat New Zealand? And Wales are a tier 2 nation. Tier one nations England, South Africa & Australia can beat NZ and win World Cups.

I still don't understand why Martyn Williams didn't cut in a bit towards the posts on his intercept try. The chaser was a good 5-10 yards away from him. The missed conversion was so costly.

rajmohan yadav icc is a terrible organisation, they pretty much killed cricket in my country (netherlands), they have no intention whatsoever to spread the game

Chinmai R Hallikar we used to play at the 50 overs world cup a couple of times but now we don’t stand a chance to participate because of the reduced amount of nations that can participate, young cricketers here have nobody (from their own country) to look up to so they quit. obviously icc is not 100% responsible but they did olay a big role. i understand countries like the netherlands or ireland don’t add much to a world cup but it means something to them and sometimes there’s even an upset, it’s like taking italy out of the six nations, italy comes in last every year but removing italy from the tournament would kill italian rugby

The most gutsy Flying Fijians team ever. Little money and time together as a team but they were determined to prove they can do it. But the team that played in Japan lacked the aura of determination but full of offfield indiscipline and too much pride in facebook coverage before the WC begin. Only Radradra, Yato and Tuisova were good.

FYI Fiji Have drawn with the All Blacks, beaten the British & Irish Lions, have beaten Australia and there have been talks to get Fiji and Japan added to the rugby Championship (better competition then the 6 nations). I think it's your national team that is useless in 15s Rugby,

Being a rugby heavyweight, Wales mostly struggle against a minnow side like Fiji ...............34/31,11/10,16/16,21/13,26/17 are close scores of some their encounters. WHY?

To describe Wales as a "Goliath" is absurd. Even in 2007 they were well below the likes of NZ, Australia, South Africa, England. They ceased to be a "rugby powerhouse" way back in the early 1980s. Since then they have been a second tier team, like Scotland.

Fiji hadn’t been that convincing before this game. They struggled against Japan back when Japan was a weak team, they struggled against Canada and were thrashed by Australia. Few people were expecting this win.
