Howdy Folks, this video focuses on repairs I make on a FILBE Main Pack. I purchased the FILBE Main Pack quite a while ago. It was just the main pack. No shoulder straps, frame, waist belt or anything else. The FILBE main Pack was in great condition for the most part, there was only one area that was damaged and a couple other areas if left unattended would fail in a short period of time. I make my repairs and give the completed FILBE a test drive in the woods.

Thank You Brother! I really wish I could quit my day job to do this instead, but...... I do what I can, when I can as inconsistently as it is.

Hello Brother John, I was watching to see if you would burn yourself with that wood burning tool. My grandson recently burned himself with my tool, on the left cheek. How he was able to burn his face was a wonder. Oh, E6000 is one of my main adhesives along with shoe glue. I took mental notes on your procedures for the future. Thanks for the video my friend.

Good and Blessed Morning Brother David! When I watch my youngest grandson attempt to do anything that requires hand dexterity, it's like watching Joe Cocker sing a song.... Nobody has to move that spastically to do anything except while they are having a convulsive fit! Everything I own that utilizes the MOLLE II or FILBE frames have the same flaw with excessive wear on whatever is on the outside of the frame. I have started to apply a liberal cushion of shoe goo to any of the areas at risk of that wear. Nip It! Nip It In The Bud! ( please read that last part and imagine Barney Fife saying it. It will make you happy.

its funny that the alice pack was much lighter material overall than the bombproof 1000d that they use now BUT the frame pocket was much thicker than modern packs. this is a great tutorial and success story. really like how you reinforced the frame pocket.

Thank You Brother! IMHO the two major issues with the ALICE pack design is the lack of dedicated load lifters and compression straps for the Large Alice. Of course the shoulder straps and kidney pad could be improved and a sternum strap would be nice. Those are all available to swap out. The FILBE frame will fit the ALICE frame pocket just fine, but it will eventually have the same issue as the FILBE frame pocket. The LC-2 frame is rounded so, there is no "Hard Edge' areas to cause that kind of damage. I know my answer to the problem is very basic but should the glue begin to fail, I'll reglue it or remove the webbing pads and redo the repair. I feel the repair will last a very long time.

Thank You Brother Kyle! When it was all said and done, I had about $125 in it. That's a good bit cheaper than a complete FILBE in grade two condition. Patience paid off. Blessings and love to you and yours Brother!

Big John! Great find, and an awesome repair job! You and I think quite alike on things like repairing packs and such. That is one huge pack, which of course I love, and I am sure you'll get a ton of miles out of it. It looks like it might be a much better design than my beloved MOLLE II pack, and about as huge. Can you access those water bottles while you wear it, replacing them when you're done without removing the pack, because that alone makes it something I might covet. Thanks again for another great video, brother! Rock on, Brother John! :)

Thank You Brother! I purchased an OCP Main Pack a while ago (pack only, no straps, frame, etc...) and pieced it together as I did the FILBE. The bag had some stains but no significant damage. I have not had the opportunity to use it much yet. However, compared to the Gen I version I had years ago, it's noticeably lighter. After using my FILBE for a little while now, I have determined carrying the water bottles in the mortar tube pockets is not going to work for me. The pockets are too loose for just one water bottle. Two will fit but when I take one out the other falls sideways and I can't easily insert the one I just removed. I am going to order two of the hydration bladders and pouches. I am also going to try a couple water bottle pouches on the hip belt to see how they ride and how accessable they are while patrolling. I'll post conclusions in the near future.

Awesome video my friend. Just ordered a pair of main packs off Ebay. Need some repairs and this video has given me some ideas. I'm putting one on a Mystery Ranch pack frame and one of them I plan on using with a Blackhawk S.O.F Alice frame and the shoulder straps and kidney pad that come with it. Hope all is well!

Awesome video! Thanks for posting this! What method do you suggest to repair MOLLE II shoulder straps that have blown out at the side seam? Lots of frayed canvas! I found some really cheap in OCP. Now... back to the pack. I recently bought two of these same main FILBE main packs. I have also purchased the ACU/UCP sustainment pouches, MOLLE II shoulder straps with load lifters and quick release straps, as well as waist belt in ACU/UCP. Luckily these are all intact. I intend to dye them brown... I don't have access to walnut husks so I will use RIT synthetics dye. My Marine friends say the frame is still a massive point of failure. So... I also have found some ALICE frames I will use. I will run the load lifters on a set of extra buckles run around the frame tube through the metal strap loops. I was inspired by you and videos like these. 1. That pack guy kzfaq.info/get/bejne/httioLWmyMrWg6c.html 2. Grunt Gear Review kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qJplp8di2pjLho0.html 3. SN Tactical kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNGZatZ8q6jLdps.html 4. Richard Camacho kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i8iSfbSIsq_Go6s.html FYI... When I was a young Soldier we ran braided para cord handles at the top and sides of our Ruck frames just like this one by Aspen Fields Gardening: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mK55lpio35m5ZqM.html I intend to use that method on the franken ruck and wrap the Filbe top handle.

Thank You! I'd really need to see the actual damage to offer a repair suggestion. Email me a few pics to me boonedockery1750@gmail.com Also, RIT has a color formula section on their website. They have formulas for both their regular dye and synthetic dye. The regular dye will work if you up the dye needed by 50% and use vinegar in the bath. Their are instructions on their website on how to dye synthetics with their regular dye. That way you can get a closer match to the desired color you want. I recently bought two complete MOLLE II packs in UCP and plan on dying them in this manner. Here are a couple links to colors that might work well for your FILBE items. www.ritdye.com/color-formulas/brown-bag/?type=197&hue=0&collection=0&collaboration=0 www.ritdye.com/color-formulas/coyote-brown/?type=197&hue=0&collection=740&collaboration=0

Either you are as bad as I am or....(?) I have, as an example, several similar axes/hatchets. You have more packs than any Recon guy could ever carry in a career.

Yeah, I kinda like the packs... I have actually used all of them but 5. Two of which aren't even on hooks. They are UCP MOLLE II packs I purchased for dying projects. Hopefully I'll be able to get to that project within a few weeks. But if the "Balloon Goes Up" Every member of my large family will have their own pack.....

Thank you for share this video and teach us your repair tips. Those works very well!!!! I have a question. In your opinion whath pack is more confortable to carry, the ILBE or the FILBE rucksack? Thak you.

I own a lot of packs. I have gotten rid of several that I just didn't care for. Of all the full sized packs I own the ILBE is my all around favorite! I have several packs I would choose to use over the FILBE. Don't get me wrong the FILBE appears to be a good pack, however there are a lot of changes that could and or should have been made to it prior to issuing it to our Marines.
