The Question Asked:
"I filed a state complaint last week. My state complaint was accepted yesterday. I received an email from the school district lawyer this evening asking if I would be willing to go through mediation. The lawyer has used tactics this year such as showing up to my IEP meeting with me only receiving the Notice of Meeting the night before indicating that legal counsel was invited. She also has restricted my communication to only the special education coordinator, herself, and the school principal.I have read and heard that mediation works to the parents advantage with due process but not for the parent in regards to state complaints. What do you recommend in this situation? I find it odd too that the school district lawyer contacted me directly. Should I respond to her email or would it be better to communicate through the SCO?
