in fact, the lyrics of the Philippine national anthem, "Lupang Hinirang", were originally written in Spanish, later translated into English and finally into Filipino only in the 1950s. "Marcha Nacional Filipina" is the title of the original Philippine anthem composed by Julián Felipe.

Spanish is still being taught in some universities in the Philippines. In my school, the University of Santo Tomas, we have two terms for Spanish. For History majors, they learn Spanish for five terms, basically until they become fluent. So yeah, we're pretty much still strongly tied to Spanish.

Hola Familia Hererra!!! Thanks for knowing and appreciating Filipino way of pronouncing Spanish. I think, of all the Peoples around the world (except South America, Mexico and Italy), Filipinos are the best in pronouncing Spanish as if it's their native tongue, afterall we've been colonized by Spain for about 333 years. Besides, Pilipino and Spanish Alphabets are almost the same. In our daily lives we even used Spanish Numerals and in telling Time. Most often than not we say; Ala Una, Alas Dos, Alas, Tres, Alas Quatro, Alas Cinco or Ala Una y Media, Alas Dos y Media, etc. In the Bicol Region (Southern Luzon) about 30% of words are in Spanish. And the Spanish Creole in Zamboaga, the Chavacanos.

That is so true. We Filipinos find it easier to learn Spanish than our English native counterparts. I remember my American classmates when I was studying Spanish, they sound totally different. You can easily tell that they’re English native unlike us Filipinos we’re already using Spanish works without even knowing it.

9:06 "good morning" in Tagalog is "magandang umaga". Other languages in the Philippines have variants like "maayong aga" or "malipayong adlaw", but most of them are rooted in pre-Hispanic languages. Only Chavacano might have something resembling "buenas dias" (I could be wrong, of course)

Some Filipinos grow up with Spanish cultures, languages and ancestries. I’m a Filipino from Visayas and my great-Grandparents were from Spain, we had Spanish priests in our High School days and we had Spanish class in our curriculum before. I grew up in the Philippines with families and friends that mainly speak Spanish. I don’t speak Spanish but I can understand some words of it. Cebuano dialect have some Spanish words.

Eumee can nail an impression of Christina Aguilera, even in Spanish! WOW Magellan set foot in the Philippines 500 years ago. Spain occupied The Philippines for 333 years. That was how long Spanish was an official language. Spanish is required for law school and the (Catholic) seminary in The Philippines. If you think Eumee is great at Spanish, check Morissette: note that Morissette speaks Bisayan, a language that has more Spanish words than Tagalog. Eumee might know Kampampangan, which has fewer Spanish words than Bisayan. You are correct: Filipinos who know at least Tagalog can learn Spanish quickly! Do see The Voice Spain and reality shows in Latin America. Feliz Navidad y prospero ano felicidad!

Waleska is right. Filipinos can really learn Spanish in no time if it forces to someone. Same goes with Latinos, you guys can easily learn Tagalog because of the same conjugations. It just needs to activate to every Filipino and Spanish people to learn the Tagalog and Spanish language respectively.

Spanish speakers will be struggling in pronouncing 'NG' like Mang, Nang as they don't have these words in their alphabet. unlike us we can pronounce the 'enye or the double LL. The difference of our pronunciation in double LL is "LYO' While in Spanish is 'YO' ex: caballo, paella and others that has double LL. These are only my observations.

@@exploit_123_Travel yes. the vocalization of certain alphabets are not the same but the original poster mention Spanish and Filipino as having the same conjugations and conjugations pertain to verb changes according to the subject so I remain to say that the conjugations between these two languages are not the same. More so, completely different.

Brazil (football, dance, jiu jitsu, bossa nova) 2. Mexico (our connection with the Manila Galleon Trade) 3. Argentina (football, corned beef) 4. Colombia, Venezuela (Miss Universe, football) 5. Puerto Rico (basketball) 6. Chile (football) 7. Panama, Peru, Honduras (I honestly don't know much)

There was a time when Spanish is the 2nd language of the Philippines and it is included in the curriculum of education. So, most, of not, everyone spoke Spanish, English & Filipino. Everyone in school had to learn English, Spanish, even Japanese too. Later it was declared that after Filipino, English is our second language. But then up to this day, many of our grandparents and elders can still speak Spanish, and most of our dialects in the Philippines has words derived in Spanish.

I actually tried learning Spanish via DuoLingo and got to Level 30 something. Learning the words and pronouncing them wasn't the issue. I couldn't remember which words were masculine and which were feminine plus how verbs change with gender assignments of nouns was hard to nail down. I also didn't have enough practice. Hehehe. With more exposure and personal incentive to learn, I could perhaps pick up Spanish in a year or two of lax learning.

We were surprised to learn that our bisaya dialect has more Spanish, that even our evening prayer that we did in front of our grandparents, they called it Tenga prayer.
