Don't hesitate to ask the locals. Filipinos love helping foreigners experience their culture. A simple "How do you eat this fish?" or "How do you use this oil?" would definitely spark a conversation from the locals. It made my experience there way better.

As everyone has already pointed out, most dishes in the Philippines are meant to be eaten with rice. These dishes are often well seasoned and strongly full-flavored, which the rice complements alongside some condiments like soy sauce, calamansi, vinegar, fish sauce, chili and/or banana ketchup. Visitors often misunderstand Filipino food to be salty or extra savory, but what it really needs is a rice side dish every time and some condiments for an extra twist.

White folks dont like rice unless its fried rice. They will never like filipino food its too exotic and strange. Pig face, salted fish, grilled intestines, peanut butter soup with shrimp paste, pig blood stew. The cuisine is too caveman style for westerners even other asians.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. Worth to mention is that a salted egg must be eaten with enough tomato slices to make it so delicious to eat.

The Fish.is called Tuyo or Salted Dried fish. You eat it with sinangag or garlic rice. The Tuyo is dip in vinegar concoction (vinegar, garlic, cayenne pepper, paminta, onions). We don't eat it fish only but with garlic rice coz it's salty. You wouldn't like it like that but if you will eat accordingly it's enjoyable and delicious specially with coffee.

The fish looks more like fried tawilis. Tawilis is a kind of sardine that thrives in Taal Lake. It does look like dried fish, but it's not; if it were tuyo or dried fish, you wouldn't be able to bite off any part of the fish bec it would be hard, not crunchy, and too salty to eat without the rice. The trick, for some who don't like the taste of the head and the texture of the scales, is just cut off the head then scrape off the scales starting from the tail part pushing your spoon toward the head.

The breakfast fish looks like a unique type of fish. Taal Lake used to be part of the bay and they got trapped in the lake due to a volcanic eruption, and it slowly turned to freshwater. The sardines adapted to the new environment becoming rare freshwater sardines. You wont easily find it anywhere else. Truly a rare experience. It's called "Tawilis".

Hi, welcome to the Philippines, I love the energy and being happy and smiling on the vlog my friendly advice since you are VLogging the philippines and having the experience especially on food. Like any others who commented, I would suggest to research or ask any waiter or even managers on how food is properly eaten or what kind of food is it. As some Filipinos might get offended by eating it wrongly as people all over the world will watch watch and may impose. Wrong impression that the food is not good simply because of wrong way on how to eat it. Don't be afraid to ask any one. Filipinos are very accommodating and helpful to tourist. We are always proud on our food. :) I hope you don't get me wrong :) I love watching tourist experiencing our country and what we caN offer. But sometimes doing it the wrong way specially on food resulting to not liking by you and other tourist might not want to try it because they saw it in your vlog. We always have To be responsible. Looking forward to see you're experience. Enjoy and have a blast. And being in other countries you have to get out from your comfort zone :) peace. Love lots.

Hey I'm glad you are visiting my country. I was born there but raised in the US. Here's some traditional foods you should try. The most famous is balut. You have to keep an open mind when you find out what it is or just try it out. Many locals will tell Americans eating balut it will give you long lasting bedroom endurance, lol. Which is a story. Lumpia as also named as Shanghai. And if your about to try some night time street food or kalindaria, (mom & pop owned restaurant ). You should try banana que, Adidas, beta max and qwek qwek(quail eggs). Oh when you buy some water always buy it in sealed bottle. Very very cheap to buy. If you you need to use the the bathroom the word for that is the C R, comfort room. And always keep some toilet paper, wet wipes and hand sanitizer. To clean yourself you would have to use a tubo, a small scoop bucket to wash down there. And you're on the main Island of Luzon you can tour 100 islands and head north to the mountains of baguio. Another tourist destination which the temperature will drop at least 12° less. If you decide to buy any local souvenir you can wheel and deal to lower the price. Some tourists areas when buying stuff you would have to ask. Sometimes they will raise the price because your an American. Oh when you have peso, Filipino money. Make sure you have lesser bill count. Like if you can only get 500P bill notes try to get 100P peso notes. Most Filipinos will not have change. They will try to scam you the rest of the peso note like whatever you buy form100P but given them 500P. They most likely won't have change. 7-11 you won't have a problem with that. Well hope you both have an awesome visit and if you have any questions feel free to ask..

The fish from breakfast looked like fried tawilis. Tawilis is the only fresh water sardines and they are only found in Taal lake. They are an endangered specie so fishing is limited and seasonal. It is supposed to be crispy fried and dipped in spicy vinegar. Also found in Taal lake is the only fresh water trevally or maliputo. Also limited or seasonal fishing. You should try it when you visit Tagaytay. Be safe and enjoy.

I was having fun watching you two experiment with Filipino food. Just two quick comments about the food. The Sisig is good I have to agree but I wish the servers explained to you that you need to mix the egg with the meat portion of it and add the Kalamansi (small Philippine lime). The same thing for the Halo-Halo, you're supposed to mix everything together before eating it. Hopefully, you'll get to try Pork Lechon and pork Sinigang (pronounced as see, knee, gang), Oh, I forgot about the little fish. That was salted and sun-dried then fried. I don't eat the head and you're supposed to remove the scale. Dipping it in vinegar with hot chile is better, but it's all good...

the way to eat Halo-Halo is to mix all the ingredients with the shaved ice. Halo is a Filipino word that means "to mix". so halo-halo is mix-mix.

Welcome guys, just a tip - if you order food and there is lime or calamansi, its usually sprinkled on the food itself like the sisig. Just ask the foodseever or the waiter what the condiments are for. The chicken oil is poured on to the rice for more flavor. Halohalo desert should be mixed all together while its melting so you get the smooth consistency of melted ice together the mixture of stuff in there. It doesnt hurt to ask the food server or the food seller how the food is eaten or blended for more flavor and enjoyment. Enjoy guys.

Someone help these guys pls. Lol. Don’t be shy to ask the shop which goes with what (they will be glad to help) and how you’re suppose to eat and pair the food items, cause you got it all mixed-up. Dried fish is suppose to be dipped into regular or spicy vinegar. The lumpia pairs with the vinegar dip, the dynamite roll pairs with the sweet & sour sauce. Squeeze the calamansi (local lime) juice on the Sisig only (remove seeds after) and mix, together with the egg, and accompany it with some of the Java rice. Enjoy your food adventure. 🍽😋

The dried fish (Tuyo in Tagalog) is supposed to be dipped in vinegar to balance the saltiness and fishy taste. Next to taste, Sinigang, Bulalo, Pinakbet, Lechon kawali, Kare Kare, you can eat in Manam restaurant. Thank you for trying our local dishes ❤

I highly recommend you to try Andok's Rotisserie Chicken and Liempo/Pork Belly. By the way, Filipinos love making our own dipping sauces, so you'd typically see soy sauce, fresh chilies, calamansi and vinegar at restaurants or you could ask the staff for some if you want (some restaurants are self-service when it comes to condiments, while others are not). To prepare the dipping sauce, what you should do is put the chili in a soy dish, cut it up with your fork and spoon, then squeeze the calamansi and add either soy sauce or vinegar or you could also mix both of them together if you want to.

I really wish that local businesses, especially those catering to international diners, would consider providing simple guide on how to fully enjoy their menu offerings. It would be amazing if they could offer handouts or explanations to help foreigners appreciate our cuisine better. As Filipinos, we should pay attention to these small details to ensure our foreign guests fully experience the Pinoy way of life. Let's provide them with all the necessary information. It's quite disappointing in this regard. On a positive note, it's truly heartwarming to see Jacob and Jenny enjoying their visit. Have a great time, both of you!
