With all due respect to Filipino people sand thier culture and martial arts but I'm sorry to say it doesn't work in real fight.there is documentary on Kali on youtube two American guys learn it for a week or two and literally defeated Filipino marines.
@wizeguy2388
@wizeguy2388 Ай бұрын
@@hotheadsniper Yes, it's called fight quest and I know that episode very well, and I practice Kali, and I think you should rewatch the fight. They did not defeat them. They fell short one round. There's nuance to it. Balthasar dropped his stick twice, he didn't necessary lose to Jimmy because of skills and was just butterfingers and he really fumbled that. It wasn't because Jimmy was a better stick fighter. The knife round went to Balthasar, but the hands went to Jimmy. Jimmy is an MMA fighter and has boxing skills. Kali empty hands is probably the least practiced skill and it's more about dealing with a weapon instead of dealing with hands like boxing is fighting another boxer. Jimmy clearly had the upper hand with MMA training that Balthasar does not have, however the hands round was a tie. Then we have Prado. Prado won the stick and the knife rounds but lost the hands against Doug because Doug is a boxer like Jimmy. Same circumstance applies here where Kali empty hands is mostly used to deflect weapon attacks instead of deal with boxers. So this all makes it 3.5 Filipino marines, 2.5 to American MMA guys, therefore the Filipino marines were not defeated. Take off the head gear and take off the hand protection. The results would be 2 Filipino Marines, and 0 American MMA guys because they'd be dead after the knife rounds that they started with. Replace the sticks with bolo machetes which is what they're supposed to be. The protective gear just allows the fight to enter a sports style fight, which is not what Kali is meant to be, so if we want to look at the truest test, put live blades in their hands and take out all the gear. The result will be very different. Overall, the marines both won the knife round easily, which in marines-relevant situations, is honestly all that really matters. Trust me, Kali works, if you throw in a Kali guy into an MMA ring with a boxer/BJJ guy and allow him to actually be a Kali guy with a blade, place your bet. Evening the playing field to an MMA octagon setting and comparing Kali to that just makes Kali less of what it is, sorry but that's the truth

Of course, I don’t really understand why in our time two people have to fight with large Chinese chopsticks? There are knives, shockers, traumatic weapons And walking down the street with two sticks and considering yourself deadly ... that was before the invention of gunpowder
@Shacksies
@Shacksies Жыл бұрын
@@PaulSith in Eskrima, there is a concept called "substitution principle". You train with rattan sticks as a training tool, but this translates into swinging an expandable baton, a machete, a piece of rebar, etc. The reason we train dual sticks is to teach ambidexterity, mainly, but there are still cases where dual weapons may be used in a modern context. For example, a year ago I was attacked by a criminal at my workplace. It was a liquor/wine store and the attacker started swinging dual-wielded champagne bottles at me. I was able to block and disarm one of the bottles when they swung it at me, then ducked my head to use the hard part of my skull to take the impact of the second swing which I failed to block (a better alternative to getting smashed in the face with it, where I could have easily lost an eye or worse), and then I tackled them and began striking them. I chose not to draw my knife in this situation. But my training in Eskrima had instilled in me the ability to recognize the angles that melee weapons will be swung at you and helped me defend myself from thos vicious assault. Yes, guns are a whole different beast, but you might be surprised at how commonly knives and other melee weapons are used in violence, and it is highly valuable to train Eskrima to prepare yourself for these attacks. A good Eskrima practitioner can pick up just about anything and use it as an improvized weapon, too.
@PaulSith
@PaulSith Жыл бұрын
@@Shacksies I don’t understand your expression to pick up something and use it as a weapon ... Street skirmishes are fleeting and usually the attacking side already has a weapon right away and will not wait while you fumble around in search of an analogue of a stick or its substitute

This looks good when your opponent is demostrating and cooperating the techniques, in real life the attacker is not going to hit you with the inner part {close to the hand} of the stick but with the very tip, this means you have to move forward with the perfect timing to realize just about any technique.
