Filipino United Methodists Signal Desire to Leave the UMC

In this segment, I review a letter republished by a Filipino group called "Autonomy Now," which I found posted on Chris Ritter's www.peopleneedjesus.net. It is an official statement put out by a major church in the Philippines. It almost certainly does not speak for every single Filipino UM, as I make clear in this piece, but it probably represents a majority informed position on the island nation. I also talk about a few other things I know about the Philippines with respect to Methodism and some reporting in the New York Times yesterday morning.

My husband said it best when he said, “We didn’t leave the UMC. The UMC left us.” And we chose to leave with our feet, our tithes and our family.

#OneGoodSamFam is what we call the congregation- One Good Samaritan Family :-) Thanks for the feature. Praying that the entire Filipino Methodists follow suit, discernment and wisdom be filled amongst all local churches. Currently, there's just so much suppression from our very own sitting Filipino Bishops.

I felt the same way after a umc annual conference. It just got worse, too, as time went on.

I left the UMC in 2022. The pastor was tearing the fellowship apart by causing divisions. Many of the conservatives of our fellowship left because the pastor refused to even allow the discussion, and when we did meet for a Q&A we were Gaslighted. That church used to be a pillar in the community with massive children Ministry outreach is 2 years later having to partner with an othe UMC to even have a viable VBS.

Great info and overview. All of the Filipinos I know are quite conservative and many Catholic. I've never seen any business or organization down size very well and this is so rapid and massive I question if the UMC can survive as people understand it.

Let me be Frank. The time has come when true christian people should end all connections to any denomination. Return to the true new testament with male pastors and Bible teachers. Most denominations are Luke warm at best and apostate at the worst. Abandon the man made denominations and be Just Christian. Organize small house churches that are local places to grow learn and pray together. You don't need any top heavy structure. Read your Bible. Pray. Grow reach out and fellowship. Get out now flee the wrath to come.

While I understand your thoughts, not all groups have the skills or leadership to pull it off. Part of having a centralized organization is to keep things unified and together. What you are seeing has little to do with the denomination, but apostate leaders and churches that hijacked the microphone.
