Mental Health isn't often talked about in Filipinos households. We're told not to think about it or to pray until it goes away.
#MentalHealth #FilipinoCommunity #Dance
This January, we're launching #YourMindOurMovement to destroy the idea that this topic is taboo. We invite you to join the conversation on how your family has impacted your mental health by using this hashtag and tagging us. Let's start talking.

Thank you for this! I used to think this was normal until I started comparing my non-Filipino friends and my boyfriends family to mine. The other families were so warm, open and non-judgmental. Don’t get me wrong I love my family to death but the constant comparisons, judgements and ridicule is so toxic.

I'm super aware of this. That's why I don't share my successes with my family so no one has any ammunition for anything. To this day, my parents have no idea what I do for a living. It's pretty sad.

Honestly when I managed to get enough money to get my own house I would cut all contacts from them and I mean my entire family even my relatives. Well my mom thinks I'm a terrible person and my relatives would think that so why bother staying in touch with them. I can finally resent them as much as I like #YourMindOurMovement

Im half filipino, the amount of jealousy, comparing, gossip, "Oh he's rich", "omg he's a lawyer"lol, narcissistic, putting others down, talking shit about others ect.. is pathetic its mostly the women trying to be somebody. I stay away these days I dont post on fb I dont tell people anything I follow my own path. I wish people could just be grateful and happy for one another, sometime I feel like saying to them shut the fuck up and mind your own business but that would cause world war 3 with filipino

Foreigner, living in Philippines for over 16 years, married to a wonderful Filipina who does not want to associate with other Filipino's because of jealousy, narcissism, crab mentality and everything else. Even as a foreigner I have seen extreme jealousy towards me, people judging putting me down, purposely making trouble. I came here to live fairly young in my early 30's and we have gradually become more affluent over that time and in that same time frame I have seen many traits in the people here surface. I believe many Filipino's thrive on causing trouble for others and base their entire lives on demeaning anyone else whether Filipino or foreigner. Many will look down on others if they perceive their financial and social status above another and they will flaunt this in ways to demean the other. While none of this is purely a Filipino trait, it is a widespread problem that I have seen nowhere else to this level.

Wow, surprised, yet not surprised this isn't viral. Thanks so much for the post. One thing I think is key is that it might be better addressed as Filipino Americans or maybe any kind of Filipino in the Western culture. I often wonder if it is much of an issue in the Philippines because to them I feel like it is normal and nothing wrong with it. Will be making my own video soon
