Man, it can't be exaggerated how happy it makes me feel to hear the manager who was rightfully skeptical about James (Let's be honest, it's a very strange phone call to get), decide to trust James, and warn the old lady. This old lady was forced to go outside, and is at that moment in a very confusing situation and the fact that she's crying is all the scammers fault. Despite hearing her cry these heartless people just try to get money out of her anyway.

@@nvcn86 You must be young. xP People don't see "youtubers" as anything trustworthy. It's like if someone tells you "Hi. I use facebook and warn my friends about scammers." None of that makes me sound trustworthy. You don't know me, or the people who follow me. I could be pulling a prank. You might ask me: "How do you know an elderly lady is going to come here soon." Then I'd have to explain how I hacked into a scammers telephone call. Now you shouldn't trust me at all, because you would either think: "Think this guy could be hacking me!" or "'Hacker' my ass. You're just trying to look cool, aren't you?" Even after this, if I was in their shoes, I'd still say: "Yeah, sure, sounds great. I'll keep an eye open, whatever. Good luck with your videos." And I'd be slightly annoyed it wasn't a customer, and I definitely don't want people calling that phone when a customer is trying to call. Know that most grown-ups and elderly still don't have the slightest idea how hacking works. So just by phoning them and telling them you're a hacker might make them think that you somehow hacked their telephone. "Get out of my telephone!" xD But I know how you feel. In the past I never understood how the truth could leave people suspicious. And even though he is a private investigator, I agree that it doesn't sound reassuring either. It just means "a person who investigates things for themselves". Could be a dude in a tinfoil hat who believes in aliens, thinking they're on the heels of an alien trying to scam humans.

You can call me whatever you want, but if I found out there are people involved in this kind of activity living in the same city I live in, I would call a few good friends of mine and would have a talk with those guys, because I think only beating the shit out of them helps. was a store manager once and we do kind of rush callers a bit for the sole purpose of keeping the line open for emergencies or if we're expecting a particular call at the time that you may have been calling. @@pineappleparty1624 I don't know why more places don't have training for it. I used to work in a large store with attached auto center. Even as an auto mechanic because I was expected to know how to run the register I had to take the scam training. Anyone asking for multiple cards or with a total value over $250 was supposed to raise a red flag. I know in a lot of these videos they are always pushing for thousands in cards from a single store, but you'll get people coming in wanting 3 $200 cards for google play, or walmart, even Xbox and PlayStation. After you see a couple people (usually pointed out by more experienced employees) in the process of trying to buy cards for scammers, it become readily apparent when someone is being scammed. There is almost always a certain look of panic and urgency on their face. That red flag goes up 10x if they are on the phone while trying to checkout. The sad part is, most of the time when you try to ask questions about who they are for, why they are buying this much, if they want another card instead because it's better, etc. they get defensive and sometimes angry. These people buying these cards are almost always terrified because of the threats from the scammers, so much so that all rational thinking goes out the window.

Well, we don't know that they didn't take it seriously.. the thing is they maybe didn't feel like they could have much conversation because it goes way ouside their job description and they could get in trouble if e.g. it was a scammer calling them.. so they might have just spoken to their manager straight away. People don't always have the best response on the spot. Also they are aware of people buying gift cards so they probably already had procedures in place. They didn't need to give personal info about the person to the guy on the phone. It seemed like they might not take it seriously, but was hard to say 'cos they weren't communicating much.

It's very hard to explain. They think that they are actually working, like, that's "their job" so to say, and so if the scam fails then their work was for nothing. They basically think the people being scammed deserve it because they don't know any better.

Too many Indians have a superiority complex due to the caste system with a need to display their social status. They uphold education as supreme and so many who work at these call centres may have a superior education to the masses they live above, projecting that on to the westerners as inferior. In addition they have a chip on their shoulder holding the Britishers/West as responsible for stealing their wealth. Politicians use this narrative to this day to avert blame for their corruption. To top it all off due to the poverty, it is a dog eat dog scammer society.

Well, these people are criminals preying on the weak, so they are most likely psychopaths or at the very least have very low empathy. They most likely would have turned to crime even if they were not poor, they probably can't function in any real job because they are so insanely entitled.
@timbradshaw5481
@timbradshaw5481 2 жыл бұрын
@@Chimponaut Do you really think so? I think these people will believe that these are rich westerners who can afford to lose the money no problem. Given that normal people do far worse than this, these people are probably in main quite normal people. Probably see themselves in a way like Robin hood to provide for themselves and their own family. Like 1% of the population are sociopaths and have low empathy for strangers. And most sociopaths don't go to jail or commit crimes. I don't think it's an empathy related thing.

Yet, i almost fell into one of these when i got a call saying my social was attached to a cartel member's purchase in texas. I agree that they did a good job, though also wanted to add that retail employees here usually just get paid per hour, and not per sale, so only the corporate office would care about if they made the sale or not. It is not to be taken for granted that they cared, though, either way. Also, I suspect most corporate offices wouldn't want them to make this sale, since it could be a PR disaster if someone broke a story about it. Well, you'd like to think that they are just good people, too, but usually with corporations they have a monetary reason why they don't do bad things.

I just woke up listening to my mom on the phone with someone at "Paypal" telling her to download some PC connection program and giving him the code to her computer because she got a phishing email saying there was fraud on her account and of course she called back the number in the email. By the time I forcibly ended the call, she had been on the phone with him for an hour, and had given him two separate credit card numbers to do some sort of "test." The worst part is, at first, she thought I was being ridiculous, basically told me to screw off, and even asked the scammer to reassure me that there is nothing funny going on!! @@TimothyGod I‘d disagree. The image of a nation is important when it comes to doing international business. For instance, the question if there is a functioning legal system (in this case one, that proactively stops criminals) matters, as it represents trustworthiness. But even more importantly, tourism: Countries with a negative image will see significantly less tourists from other countries - and tourism is a multi-billion dollar industry.

I grew up in India. Just too many people and too little police to keep track of these things. The corruption and poor living standards of the overworked police inspectors piles on top of that to make them further indifferent to the plight of the victims. And lastly, there is no mechanism for the victims to register complaints. Even if there were, Americans are not so likely to call Indian police when defrauded. Especially with the disgust that they would have towards indians after being scammed by one of them.
