City Took NO ACTION To Cleanup This OVERGROWN Sidewalk So I Did

This overgrown sidewalk was spotted while my wife and I were driving to buy groceries. This side of the street was far better than the other side, in terms of being able to be used by pedestrians, but it was still deemed to be hazardous for pedestrians due to all the overgrowth. I am not sure who owns this property but they're in for a surprise as far as a free sidewalk makeover is concerned.
I get asked all the time if the city is responsible for cleaning up these sidewalks. Here in our city, the owner is responsible for maintaining the sidewalk appearance/safety. This means keeping the weeds cut down and snow removed in the winter time. However, would the city be responsible if the property becomes abandoned? I'm not sure...
As far as mowing the whole entire property, we will see about locating the owner. We don't feel real comfortable stepping foot on an unknown piece of land, however we do care of the appearance of our neighborhood. We'll get clearance from the city if needed. We did mow 36" wide paths to keep the grass short so that snakes and other creatures don't jump out at you while you are walking down the sidewalk. I guess that would be another reason why this would be considered a hazardous pathway to walk on.

You didn't just help an individual and their neighbors this time but beautified your city! Being on such a heavily travelled road means thousands have to go by and see this and feel their town is run down and unkempt, but now it can inspire some pride and I'm sure the businesses across the street really appreciate all the hard work you did!! SO satisfying to watch!!

So . . . hypothetically, if the property owner were to have come by and objected to your work and had you arrested for trespassing and "turf rustling", would the judge have given you community service and sent you back to finish the job? 😉Love what you're doing. You're helping your community take pride in their neighborhoods.

odd to think about really. But of course you would have to be notified by the owner of the property that you were trespassing before they can then call the police have it made official and then the cops can arrest you if you refuse to leave after all that. As far as "turf-rustling" thats a new one on me.

Most US cities do not maintain anything beyond the roadway. Even though the sidewalks to roadway aren't owned by the property owner they ate required to maintain then & pay for that maintenance or repairs. If the city pay to replace the sidewalks, the property owner gets a bill or tax lean for it. But yet many cities can require you to have that sidewalk.. & pay for it & maintain it.

That was an ugly mess for the neighbors to see regularly, makes the area look poorly. You did an amazing job cleaning that up, I mean wow, what a great job. Straight edges, and shoveling for miles, I felt the pain and fatigue just watching! Looks so much better. I good storm should clean it up even more.

Whether or not someone lives there, is immaterial. Those of us in wheelchairs need sidewalks kept up so we can use them safety. Thanks for doing this.

Wow, judging by the size of that crater in the block it looks as tho the house exploded! Who would have thought the footpath was so wide! Looks great 👍

Love your posts and your production every week. I also like to wonder about the backstories of the areas you bring us. My biggest wonder this time was: who decides to park in a remote spot like that white hatchback? Hmmmm...

Ah I was wondering if you were going to get to this sidewalk from the last video. Good one! Only, one suggestion; use sidewalk dirt as landfill where that house stood. Save on plastic bags

I am new to your channel. I was watching another channel where on top of his usual videos he decided to pay it forward and mow yards for free. If he finds an overgrown yard and it is a veteran, elderly person, disabled person, etc. he goes and cleans up their yard. He has also worked o. A couple yards where the person passed away and it just sits there overgrown. This is how I realized that I enjoy watching and listening when someone is edging. It makes everything look nicer and to me it is soothing. Keep up the amazing work!

This is a SPECTACULAR job! One thing I have to say is that I admire the way you handle your tools. Some people just throw them down. You place them with respect. An old adage says: "Take care of your tools and they will take care of you." BRAVO, BRAVO!!

I've never heard of property owners to be responsible for anything more than snow and ice. Even then it's never enforced. Like you said, there are differences in laws. Nice job!

I do like the before and after, as sometimes I've not got time for the entire video. It's amazing what you and other channels do for people. Especially the elderly, or the disabled who literally cannot do their own yard cleanups.

1) The string trimmer Health at an angle works quite the same as your shovel against the broken/ edges/ flat of the sidewalk. 2)When was the last time you sharpened your shovel? It looks fantastic and a huge service to the community!
