But they also said her name wrong. I saw it spelled phonetically in a magazine interview with her - THAIR-uhn, not Thur-ON.

⁠⁠@@wongbenyb2679The British not possessing intricate knowledge of Occitan, turned Afrikaans, orthography and phonetics (or, more likely, American pop culture), how dare they! Theron is also originally a Greek first name which is pronounced like the Brits in the video did, certainly in Enlgish, at least. The Afrikaans pronunciation is also nothing like Thur-ON. More like Tron. So I suppose the South Africans butcher the original pronunciation, and Charlize (or Hollywood) in turn butcher that pronunciations. And if the Occitans directly or indirectly based the name on the Greek word/name, they butchered it too. In that case, it had gone through four steps of butchering by the time the British were through with it, ending up closer to the original pronunciation than anyone else.
