For pocketable film cameras, my suggestions would be a Rollei 35 for 35mm as they are tiny. I have the manual, mechanical Rollei 35B which is the cheapest or a medium format folder like the Zeiss Ikon Nettar. Always enjoy your KZfaq videos!

Hi Tom, Great video as always. Love your little day trips around Cornwall. You always come over so positive. As for compact cameras. I have a little Sony RX100 MK1, the first one, I keep in the car for the same reason. A very good little camera. I also believe the Ricoh GR MK1 is worth finding. Compact 35mm, I have the Olympus 35mm RC. Great little camera with a fixed 42mm F2.8 lens.

Thanks for the positive feedback Graham it’s really appreciated. I was interested in the Ricoh for the size of the camera and it’s large sensor. I will check out the Olympus. Thanks for the advice 🙏

Good video as usual Tom. Love that Mz cemetery, took some images there with my infrared camera. Great with some big dramatic clouds. I love Fuji cameras and amongst others have a near mint X-E1 which I got for £199. Takes lovely b&w and Fuji have excellent film simulations. You are very welcome to borrow it and lens for a week. I'm in Pz.

Thanks Peter I’ve just had a look at the XE 1 camera. It looks like a great little camera, maybe something like that with a pancake lens to keep it compact. Thanks for the advice I’m going to check it out properly later. Many thanks Tom 🙏

Hi Tom. I think the best every day carry camera is a 6x4.5 folder. Big negative in a small package. I have a Konica Pearl II and a Zeiss Super Ikonta A 531. Both have coupled rangefinders and coated 4 element lenses. Both are wallet sized.

I personally carry olympus af-1 mini that is really tiny and cabable. I have 400iso film in it and it is basically always ready to go. There is an issue with that model thought, basically every one of them has a broken battery door latch. So it's taped shut. Takes AA batteries, weather sealed, controllable flash, tiny and same lens as MJU.

Thanks Janne just had a look at that one. It looks like a fun little camera and compact. I will do a bit more research on that one. I do like the 35 mm focal length as well. Thanks very much 😊

Really enjoyed this video! Buying a Ricoh GRD, GR1, -2, -3 will be just the ticket. Earlier models are cheaper. Lens is superb on all of them and they offer the manual control you will want. Superb. I bought mine in 2006 (GRD) and upgraded to the GR3 last year. Still got the GRD (8mp) and will never sell it as the quality is so great, despite the low megapixels. The camera is SO small and the ergonomics are wonderful! Superb camera for B&W. When I bought the GRD in 2006, it was marketed as a professional, auxiliary landscape pocket camera; spot on!

Thanks very much, a Ricoh is definitely the one I’m considering most at the moment. I love how compact it is with an aps c size sensor. It’s difficult there’s so many great cameras to choose from. Thanks for the advice it’s really appreciated 👍
@MarchMeadow
@MarchMeadow Жыл бұрын
@@tomwhelan Yeah, the GRD3 is on a different level with its 24mp sensor. And the ergonomics are great. I also bought an early Sony RX100 - great small camera but felt all wrong in the hand and the controls were not in the same league as the Ricoh. Gave it to my daughter in the end as I just didn't like the feel of it.
@tomwhelan
@tomwhelan Жыл бұрын
@@MarchMeadow ok that’s good to know, I was just amazed how Sony have put such a large zoom in a tiny camera. The Ricoh wins for me though. 👍

Another interesting video with lovely images. As for small cameras, my wife has the Fuji X30 which is a bit smaller than the x100 series but has a 28-112 equivalent zoom. She also had the previous X10 - same sensor but only optical viewfinder. I've made prints up to 8x10 with these small-sensor cameras with no issue.

Great images as always - I have often thought about picking up a compact film camera like an Olympus Mju or something of that nature to alwasy have on me, as I tend to alwasy use my phone as that's what I alwasy have with me, but I find i have never posted the images on my phone, but with an actual camera I do... So long story short, I'd look at the Olympus Mju for point and shoot or the Olympus XA rangefrinder if you want to have a little more control - which is what I 'm leaning too - that's my two cents.

Another very lovely set of images. Didn't realise you use the meter in your chimney finder, good job winging it with those stream images. I'd thought you use an external meter. Had to laugh when you said you didn't have your phone so no time keeping. You do know they still make wrist watches, right? As for small cameras, I have an Olympus Stylus, very compact yet capable, but you should also, as someone else here pointed out, consider some old rangefinder folder like the Mamiya 6 or some such. Cheers.

Thanks very much Alfred it’s funny you mention the watch. I was just looking in the shop the other day thinking I need a nice watch. I definitely should have bought one. The Olympus looks like a good compact option. I would absolutely love the Mamiya 6 but a bit too expensive unfortunately. I almost bought one about 15 years ago. It was about £700, if only I knew how much more it would be now. Many thanks Tom 🙏

@@tomwhelan Oh, I meant the really old Mamiya 6 folders, which can be quite cheap. But there are plenty of options in that spectrum of 6x6 rangefinder folder from the 1950s onward.

There aren't really any 'better' smaller digital cameras than your mobile these days, although there are some small point and shoot digitals that are less MPs. They will weigh about the same as your phone though. In terms of film I've still got my Olympus Trip 35 that I bought in '91, excellent lens and totally rugged. Get a lens cap though to protect the selenium cell - remember to take said lens cap off before shooting ...... been there, done that ! Its easy to carry around with a spare film in a soft child's pencil case.

My small, take everywhere camera is Sony rx100m7 for digital and an Olympus XA for film. I'm waiting for a Samsung AF slim to test out as a point and shoot alternative to formerly mentioned cameras. GR 2 is amazing and phone app is flawless for editing on the go and uploading for Instagram, only reason I sold it was the 28mm restriction.

Lovely photography. A few years ago, I too wanted a small light digital camera. I was seriously considering the Fuji X100T, Panasonic LX100, Sony RX100 III or even a Leica D-Lux type 109. In the end the tiny but highly capable Olympus EM5 MKII won the day. I still think the Sony is the most portable and pocketable. The original RX100 had slower zoom but much more reach. I also have a couple of Minox 35s ( these are tiny ) an Olympus 35 RC and 35 RF for when I don't fancy taking the Leica Ms out. So, you have quite a range theer to consider.
