@@Super.5th this is the first year he had an offseason program with the team. Last year was basically half a rookie season with no training camp. He was really getting comfortable by the playoffs. To write him off before THIS year is ignorant. If he doesnt develop into something after this season, I’d be inclined to agree with you. But if you have been following him closely, you know its more likely he becomes the weapon he was meant to be this year than him becoming a bust (or at least massive disappointment). I can see why people who aren’t Lions fans and don’t follow along would chalk it up though. I’m just saying that opinion comes from ignorance and not having all the context. To me, its like a 75% chance he finally puts it together this year vs 25% chance he disappoints and staggers. He has only struggled due to his first season being a wash, and his second season was a fluke BS suspension (that was unfair, and the NFL literally amended the rules after the fact). Despite not having much experience in the offense and getting a connection with Goff, he still was a lightning rod towards the end of season and thats much closer to reality.

I'm a Lions fan and I've been very negative on JaMo. Basically... production matters. You want to be respected... then show me the numbers. That being said, and I'm a critic, he has legitimate scary speed. He can catch the ball. He can actually be a good multidimensional receiver. He has the tools. So, from what I'm seeing in OTAs... I think he's focused. I think he is going to reach the potential we all see for him.

@@adgee5401 it's not short-sighted. It's knowing that talent doesn't always equal success. JaMo by his OWN admission said he was too immature. Now, this year year, he seems to be taking kis job seriously. I'm happy... thats all I wanted.

I usually delve deep into statistics and film and try to get a sense of what will happen next...but lately I've been unable to even focus on that because my intuition is overwhelmingly telling me he's going to do something big this year. The universe is telling me there is no need to even search for an answer, he IS going to breakout this year. I'm going to put money on it.

I can't explain it, maybe just rookie jitters, but he couldn't catch anything his first year, but then progressively improved over the year, to where he now seems to have good hands. He should be very good this year.

I personally think he is going to be a monster this year. He has crazy speed and playmaking but hasn’t had the experience or trust with all the injury then suspension and a couple key plays that maybe put him in the doghouse. If he can come out with a bang like he started to in the playoffs last year imo then things start to snowball, confidence comes and look out.

This is his first year with a full offseason and no distractions to really lock into the offense. He was really getting comfortable by the playoffs. Jamo’s got to have a complete familiarity with what kind of stuff Goff can throw. I do think Goff CAN hit deep shots, but it feels like the placement and throws he chooses on deep shots dont make sense to Jamo or aren’t what he’s expecting. Get that connection working and it’s another weapon.

Williams is improving as a receiver and I expect more involvement from him this year. (How about that 2nd TD in the SF game, eh?) But almost every deep Goff throw to Jamo was off last season. He's a good QB, but the deep ball is not Goff's strength. He always has some hitch or sidestep and never, you know, just cuts it loose. Besides, Detroit doesn't throw over the top much by design

Goff can throw a good deep ball. He doesn't have Staffords arm, but it's not weak. But the timing with Jamo was off. Started looking better the last few games. I think barring significant injury to either Jamo or Goff, Jamo will continue to grow from where he left off last year. Hopefully, it's a big jump even. It's there. They just gotta bring it the rest of the way out.

Your first video on the missed catch you gotta recognize that lb/s right in front of him. That's not a throw Amon ra gets where he can get low and get the first. I love Goff but I gotta put the timing on him. We saw in the pro bowl challenge he struggled to hit the fast targets. It should improve even more this year. Jamo hasn't been perfect but he is special and production aside he is responsible for much more just by taking 2 defenders deep and leaving the field open for everyone else.

Overall it's pretty complex. Everyone had to figure things out after the Lions drafted Jamo. Ben Johnson had to figure out how to get the most out of a player type he didn't have before. It's well known that Goff takes a little longer to warm up pass catchers. By the end of last season, Goff finally started getting some comfort level with Jamo. Lastly, Jamo went from being able to easily beat most college players even in the SEC to the NFL. Also listening to Jamo in an interview now is different from his rookie preseason. I'm not saying anything was "wrong" with Jamo, just that there are signs he matured some since then and that most young NFL players are still "growing up". His stat sheet should look better for the reasons stated above and the fact that the offense has about 50-60 extra targets now available with Reynolds leaving the Lions. I don't think he'll get all of those targets, but he should see a nice increase that's noticeable.
@MK22DeT
@MK22DeT 15 күн бұрын
The narrative within the Lions has been that they couldn't "trust" him. DC and Ben Johnson when asked about Jamo in22/23 was "we need to trust him" or "we are building trust" they would never say anything else but some form of these two statements. As 23 went on they would say he's earned some trust but that was as close to a compliment as they would give. Jamo admitted this offseason that when he came to the NFL he had a hard time learning all the alinements in BJ's offense. He said at Alabama he "free styled" a lot of the time. With his injury and the suspension it seemed like he wasn't with the team enough to really understand how important all the nuances are in the offense. This offseason DC said if he had to pick a player that has stood out so far it was Jamo and when asked to clarify what he meant by that he responded with "He's a man on a mission and ill leave it at that." So HOPEFULLY big things from Jamo this year 🤞

36 total touches in two season and has 6 touchdowns. He scores a TD every 6 times he has touched the football. Garrett Wilson has 186 total touches in his two seasons and has 7 touchdowns. If he can stay healthy and play at least 15 games with 50 to 60 catches. I think we could be looking at 700 to 800 receiving yards and 9 to 10 touchdowns.

My opinion is Jameson Williams will be a pretty big bust. He has God given speed that can't be taught but that's about it. He doesn't catch the ball with his hands (uses his chest). He doesn't track/adjust to the ball well. He has not yet run particularly crisp routs. I should add that he's a very willing blocker. I want to give credit where credit is due.

Goff literally DID over throw him last year a few times. That’s why offseason programs and gaining a connection with the QB/WR is so important. They gotta be able to make those throws with their eyes closed and expect the WR to be in the right spot every time. You dont get that connection without playing together and having practices. Jamo has been hounded by injuries and suspensions which drastically reduced their connection until the end of last year. This is their first full offseason together to gain trust in each other. The trust goes both ways. Goff can get it to Jamo, but Jamo needs to improve his catching ability (with his hands not his chest) and route running (being where he needs to be when he needs to be there).
