If I'm remembering correctly, more than a few of those cults _knew_ they were doomed, and were working to speed up the return of the various Elder Things in order to spare humanity the suffering of a slow destruction. Sort of a "rip the band-aid off quickly" path to inevitable extinction.

Am I the only one that looked at the creators post "debunking" his initial alien theories and was like "Wow, what a fucking douche", it was so needlessly dismissive and insulting. Also, when an ARG creator tries so freaking hard to tell you you're wrong it just makes you look even more right.

And I just love that, we have their timeline to guide us -as long as we want to-, but we still can theorize and modify it, or even making a whole new one.

That’s what I thought too. And if it weren’t for the fact that we know who the creator is, I’d assume that Local 58 was created by the same idiots in marketing that made the viral campaign for 2012. (Long story short, they released the movie in 2008 and people thought the campaign was actually a government program designed to save humanity from the [fictional] doomsday event in 2012 and crapped their collective pants. Think Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds for the modern day.) Ironically, the campaign kinda worked, as anyone who went and saw that dud also fell for the marketing. P.S. 2012 and Moonfall have the same director, so my hopes for the latter being good are virtually nonexistent.
