In this video I go over how to use a camera that accepts 620 film.
By spooling 120 roll film onto an older 620 spool you can get tons of use out of older cameras. you will also save yourself money by not paying a high price for old expired 620 film stock, or overpaying for film rolled this way by someone else.

I tried it , I exposed one roll to practice, one helpful tip is : the tail end is not attached to the paper, you need to tape it so you would avoid unrolling the film from the paper while re rolling back to the 620 reel

That is a helpful tip! Thank you for commenting it good to know there are other people out there enjoying older film cameras.

Wouldn't you also need to loosen the tape on the head end and re-tape after rolling on to the 620 spool since the film would bunch up?

Thank you! Just got one of these at the flea market today. Seems like it’s in good condition. I’ll try this film hack and see if the camera still works

it is way easier to take nail clippers to a 120 roll...once you clip off the excess plastic it fits right in...ive done it and gotten great results

I use this method to shoot my old Kodak Brownies. Never thought of doing the re-spooling inside of a 120 camera. I'm gonna have to try that one day. :)

Thanks for this idea. I wondered if you could actually roll the 120 onto a 620 spool inside a 120 camera? I realise the 620 spool may be too small, but it might be possible to pad it out. I also want to try 35mm in a 620 camera.
@tlangphoto

as long as you have some paper backing for the 35mm film spooled onto a 620 spool you should be good to go,

The Ensign full vue made in England was similiar to your Kodak but it took 120. England didn't like Kodak's marketing and monopoly attempts which 620 film was. Bought the 620 cameras and you had to buy Kodak film.

So I just noticed almost at the end of the video that the camera I have has the bottom spool that you pull our, but the top is missing. 😢 Are these easy to find? Or would that even matter once I purchased a roll?
@tlangphoto
@tlangphoto 3 ай бұрын
If you purchase a roll of film you can trim down a 120 roll with a nail clippers or a file for it to fit in a 620 camera. Your best bet for finding a 620 spool would be to locate another 620 camera for a low price. If you really find yourself out of options I may have some 620 spools in my camera collection that I could send your way. Good Luck and have fun!

@tlangphoto

This camera is the Kodak Duaflex 4, and as far as film spools go I have been told you can trim down 120 spools down with a clippers to make them fit in a pinch,

How do you get the film out of the camera?
@tlangphoto
@tlangphoto 2 жыл бұрын
Once you finish a roll of film you can remove it from the camera and affix the paper wrapper.

I have a duaflex 4 and I saw a lot of tutorials saying you need to cover the red window on the back. Have you had any trouble with it? And if so what do you recommend?
@tlangphoto
@tlangphoto 3 жыл бұрын
You should be fine, the paper backing on a 120 film roll will shield the film form any light that shines through that indicator window. It is also used to advance the film roll accurately. Good luck shooting!

I seen someone else just trim the ends of the 120 spool with nail clippers and the load the film in the camera. Have you ever tried that? What's your thoughts?
@tlangphoto
@tlangphoto 7 жыл бұрын
88Spector I don't see a reason why that wouldn't work. It would be a far faster method than what I show in the video. As long as you are careful there would be no damage to the film. Give it a try and let me know. 👍🏼

The only risk is with high end Kodak like the medalist, it won't work. Even 620 is a tight fit, and the medalist was built for 620

And then how to you transfer the pictures from the film roll to paper? (If you don't have an infrared room). I'm really new to this so sorry if this is a stupid question.
@tlangphoto
@tlangphoto 6 жыл бұрын
No worries, this is a good question, once you develop your film there are several things you can do. In my case I have a full darkroom so i can use a photo enlarger to print paper prints right from the negatives. (This is a future video for sure!) another option that is easier would be to scan the negatives and print them off digitally. (not as fun but a whole lot quicker.)

Is moving film to 620 roll make film burn ?
@tlangphoto
@tlangphoto 6 жыл бұрын
Ex Patriate if you transfer the film in the total darkness of a changing bag or a darkroom there is no risk of film burn or pre exposure.
