while halation is a great effect to replicate for film emulation, i'd advise caution as alot of modern film stocks have better functioning remjet layers that protect against halation. So if your goal is true accurate film emulation, do not go overboard and subtly apply them only in areas where there are significant highlights seen too many videos where people go overboard with halation and there are red ugly glows everywhere

I already knew about this. My opinions is that halation does not mean dreamy. It can mean whatever you want. See Alien from 1979 which has a lot of halation which is a Sci-Fi. Feels very real and not dreamy at all.
