When I first saw this movie years ago I wasn't that impressed, but watching the fights scenes again it's actually pretty good. I do wish Van Damme would have had a helicopter kick finish on Scott Adkins in the last scene, that would have been great. It was kind of funny seeing Scott do it to him though.. lol

Actually, I am glad that he stopped using the Helicopter kick. It had gotten to the point in his earlier movies that you could time the fight and say "Helicopter in 3..2..1" Now, the fights are a little less predictable and thereby more fun to watch.

JCVD is a lot less flashy in his modern movies. But what is obvious to me that his newer stuff lacks passion. He always seems lifeless, dull, or uncommitted. In his best movies he had passion in his expressions, and I don't mean just his bar dancing scene in Kickboxer. 80's movies were lucky because they were original, the first of their kind. It's practically impossible to be original nowadays, partly because everything takes elements from other movies, so the experience is diluted. Even new actors just don't seem as epic as the blockbuster heroes of the past.

We all love Van Damme, and it's cool to see him doing it still in his 50s or something. BUt what really jumped out at me here was the first scene with Scott Adkins, he's incredible, the way the guy can move, awesome athlete, and now probably the best in the world at this stuff, now that Van Damme, Jet Li, etc are pretty much retired or just plain older than dirt

@Bruce Wayne Back in the 80s and 90s I was the biggest Van Damme fan, and still love him. But I have to say Scott is on another level. Van Damme only did simple jumps kicks, even including the helicopter split kick is still just a simple jump kick with flexibility. But Scott can do some amazing trick moves.

@Bruce Wayne I agree JCVD's movies were better but that was because they put more heart into movies back in the 80s and they were more big budget. Scott came at a time when everyone had moved onto MMA and weren't impressed with fancy kicking anymore... well except for me.. But if Scott could have done a true 80s style movie with his abilities, wow that would have been very awesome. In my opinion his best films were the Undisputed and Ninja movies they were the closet he got to the 80s style.

@Bruce Wayne I have heard a lot of people rank MJW very high, I like him but in my opinion he is kind of slow compared to Scott and others. Tony Jaa is amazing but I wouldn't say miles better than Scott. To me they are on the same level.

Van Damme had a professional and amateur kickboxing career before he got into acting and only lost 1 fight out of 19 during his entire professional career and lost 4 of 33 fights during his amateur career.
