Annie's mother wa a powerful witch who disappeared or died (no one's sure). She left Annie a teddybear called Mr. Tibbers. Annie's father remarried to the blonde woman who already had Daisy. Tibbers turns into a giant, flaming brown bear. In game, it's Annie's ultimate move and ccan be given commands to move and attack. All of Annie's other abilities are fire based. Annie is still shown as a child in game.

Annie appears in-game as she does here, a little girl toting around her teddy bear Mr. Tibbers. Her story goes as thus, Annie was born to a powerful pyromantic (fire) witch (Amoline) and the man seen in this video (GregorI). While pregnant with Annie, Amoline stitched together a teddy bear to resemble the fabled shadow bears that used to roam this land they resided in, who were told to be fiercely protective of their young, imbuing it with her powers to protect Annie from harm. As she finished stitching the last eye onto the bear she went into labor bringing Annie into the world, Gregori later remarked that Annie took an immediate liking to the toy, rarely being separated from it. A few years later, a now toddler Annie and her father grew ill one winter, Annie having a fever so hot she could not even be held onto. Amoline growing desperate, rushed out in the middle of the night to fetch icy water from the nearby river to help cool her down, she never returned. GRegory awoke the next morning still groggy and sick to a perfect health Annie lying in her crib, some say Amoline died that night in the river, that her spirit now resides in the teddy Annie so loves protecting her from harm, other say she offered herself to save her daughter to some higher being, and other say she's still out there somewhere, unable to return to her daughter for some unknown reason. Annie still believes her mother is out there somewhere, and became inseparable from Tibbers, the other thing she has to remember her by. Cut to a few years later and Gregori remarries to Leanna (the blond women in the video) who has her own daughter Daisy (the blond little girl). Annie's father had noticed that Annie had starting showing powers inherited from her mother (hence the name Firefly) and Leanna was uneasy about Daisy being around Annie, as she couldn't yet control her powers and would burst from her when she became emotional. In the first fight of the video we watch Daisy take Tibbers from Annie and refuse to give him back. Annie's anger starts to boil causing her powers to unleash in a flash of fire around Tibbers, causing Daisy to recoil in fear and start to cry, Annie smirks as if to say "Ha, that's what you get for not letting go" (not cause shes evil, she's 5 and thats how children think), immediately followed by remorse as her dad and step mother rush in and realizes she did wrong. Cut to the river scene as Daisy slips into the water and Annie reaches out with Tibbers to try and pull her back in. The current is obviously to strong for Annie to pull her out and if she kept trying she herself might be pulled into the water to ultimately drown as well, this is where the magic imbued into Tibbers (or possibly her mother spirit in the bear itself) kicks in to protect Annie from harm by falling into the river. The bear starts to cover itself in flames causing it to become to hot for Daisy to hold, ( you were right in thinking Annie can't be hurt by her own flames), forcing her to let go and Annie to not fall in the river. Cut back to the house and we see Annie be called a monster by her stepmother (who blames Annie for Daisy's death, unjustly i might add) and her retreat to her room crying. Annie is now in a horribly emotional state after watching her step sister drown and having her stepmother call her a monster and her power starts pouring out of her uncontrollably. Her father comes rushing in to save her and is subsequently crushed by the collapsing roof as Annie is tossed aside and into a wall knocking her out. Annie wakes up an untold amount of time later to destruction, finds and takes solace in Tibbers (her only thing to remember her mother) and see her stepmother crying some distance away, walking up to her as she asks "Why Annie?" causing the flashbacks and causing Annie to remember what had happened (she was probably concussed by the toss into the wall, which is why she was acting the way she was in the beginning), and we see tears well up in her eyes as she reaches out to Leanna as shes all that's left, only for it to be slapped away, threatened to be hit, everything blamed on her, and Tibbers to be snatched from her and start to be torn into pieces. This does wonders for her emotions as you can guess so let's run them down, - Sadness - from watching her sister being swept away in the river and being unable to save her - Guilt - from watching her father save her life with his, from a problem she had inadvertently created - Betrayal and Hatred - from a stepmother who was all she had left in the world, to be slapped away from and all blame pushed onto herself for what has happened - Anger - from watching said stepmother take the only token she had from her mother, Tibbers, and trying to destroy him all accumulating into an unbridled fury as she gains full control of her powers, wreathing herself in flame and releasing Tibbers true form, the gift from her mother, as a full grown Shadow Bear, whose purpose is to protect Annie from those who would harm her, thus striking down Leanna to protect Annie. As morning comes we see Annie standing in a burnt down forest, across from the body of Leanna, clutching onto Tibbers, the only thing she has left in the world. As for what happened afterwards, it's said that Annie now wanders the forests of her Noxian homeland, only ever staying with a passing family long enough to get some food and fresh clothes before disappearing back into the forest, as she doesn't trust any adult, believing them to be like her stepmother, however leaving behind fire and death to anyone foolish enough try to part Tibbers from her hands.

So to keep it as short as possible and simple: 1. Yes, Annie is a villain. But she won't mess with you if you won't mess with her. In her daily conversations she is a very lovely little girl. 2. Yes, in game Annie is still a child. 3. The monster at the end is basically a bigger version of the teddy bear. It is not Annie, it is the teddy bear. 4. When Annie was born she had an awful fever. Her mother couldn't even hold her in her hands. So she took her to the river and when they found Annie her mother wasn't there and the fever was cured. Annie was also holding a teddy bear in her hands. 5. Annie's father marries to the blonde woman years later after his wife's disapperance. The step mother already had Daisy(the little blonde girl) before she married Annie's father. So they are not related in any way. 6. Annie is a pyromancer from birth, so that's her unique ability. However, the bear has pyromancy powers too, and it also, sort of, has its own mind. The bear has one purpose only, and that is to protect Annie at all costs. The bear will eliminate anything or anyone that causes Annie any kind of trouble or sadness. The bear lit up while Annie was trying to save Daisy in the River so that Daisy would die. The bear burned down the house because they made Annie cry. The bear turned into its ultimate form(which is a huge teddy bear) and killed the step mother because she atempted to slap Annie. 7. One last thing, in the final scene where the teddy bear is tearing open, you can see a female figure leave the teddy bear which might indicate that Annie's mother is the teddy bear, and that is also a huge theory as to where the mother disappeared. Also, Phillip... I showed a LOT of effort into writing all of this. A like on the comment would be nice. :)

You actually missed a little of the context that you were wondering about with the family. At the beginning when the mother is looking at Annie's drawings, it shows a woman in the ground (representing her dead mother) while her father and new step mother and step-sister are inside the house while Annie is outside alone with her bear. Although I don't know the meaning of a daisy it can also represent her step sister, who was named Daisy, to show at the end that her entire family ended up dead because of her powers.

Many seem to think she's a villain, I think she's just a survivor. If you don't mess with her she don't mess with you.

By the way, the symbolism of the daisy burning at the end was a callback to Daisy, the girl who got washed away down the river. There was a popular theory that another league of legends champion named Ryze saved her and made her his pupil but it's been debunked so its most likely that she, being the only loose thread in the short is shown to be dead as well, hence the burning daisy

I think the drawn images her step mother looks at are suppose to fill in some of those blanks you mentioned. They show her real mother, father and the teddy bear as a family with Daisy and her step mother separate. Then it shows her mother in the ground. But you are right even with that knowledge this video probably doesn't tell you a lot as someone that doesn't play league. I think her mother was a sorceress, one day Annie got very sick and she sacrificed her own life to save her, and gave her tibbers to protect her in the future. I think the way the bear and her powers work is that when she feels heavy emotions the bear triggers to protect her. So when she is fighting over the bear, when she is trying to save Daisy, when she is crying, then when she is angry at her step mother it goes full force and the bear actually awakens into an actual bear to protect her.

The pictures in the drawer tell the story. Her and her mother with the bear and a present. Tibers was her gift to her. The three of them had so much fun together. Her mother "died" then her father remarried and then you see the divide in the relationships, she is on her own with Tibers. She then expresses this power she has and believes it can unite her family again and cast out the other two. My suspicion is that her mother's spirit is now inside Tibers and protects Annie through the bear.

The drawing at the start is showing her first mom. Red means her family, yellow in the video signifies the step family. Also the final flower, a daisy. Same name as the step sister :) Also the bear is just a teddy bear she puts her magic (mostly fire) into to make it big and less, teddy-like :) And yes there is a behind the scenes just Google it

Her blond half sister is called Daisy, so thats another reason for the burning daisy in the end I think. In the start of the video you can see her stepmother looking at her drawings and you can realize her mom died and her father remarried. She is imune to fire, in the game one of her skills is a shield of fire around her. She doesnt turn into a monster, the transformation in the end is her teddy bear being summoned into an actual bear, which is also her ultimate skill in the game. I dont see her as a villain, just a child with powerfull skill and a series of unfortunate events really. Hope I could help! ☺️ Awesome video!

to answer your questions on Annie's expressions, according to the lore, Annie has always been some what mentally unstable. so her expressions are hinting at that psychopathic side of her. in fact, after this origin story, she drift from family to family, everyone of them meeting the same fate as the original one. to add to that fact, Annie doesnt like her step mother, you can see that clearly from her drawings near the start. its a common troupe the step parents favouring their own child. so when her father embrace her, Annie have that winning smirk at the step mother.

I think the incongruity in the tone is meant to make you uncomfortable, Annie isnt really a villain she's basically a traumatized child who learned to use her power to protect herself. Shes basically a tragedy not a villain but certainly not a good person

Child of a witch and the father you saw here. Her mother was a powerful witch and gave her powers. Father remarried. The teddybear is Tibbers and can become alive and bear sized. Some very small detail on her in-game working. Every 4 abilities she uses(Speaking of her 3 normal abilities, all fire based, single target, fire shield, aoe(area of effect) so about as standard as it gets) she will stun somebody when it hits. Her ultimate, the appearing of Tibbers is a larger ranged aoe(larger than her normal aoe ability). That simple stun was powerful enough that for a time she was used as support instead of the mage she was created as. An aoe stun can kill an enemy team in under 2 seconds(not on her own of course) or even just pick of a single player, giving them the numbers advantage. There are some videos of professional teams just having it hit on 4-5 enemy players and the team of Annie wiping the floor with them before they recovered. It's not really a unique thing imo. It's very similar to the likes of Frozen and to go to a comparison before the creation of Annie, Gaara. Who's mother made sure that sand would protect him(they live in a dessert)...except it didn't know what a treat actually was. A child bumping into him might mean the sand kills it. Making people fear him. People therefore treated him badly, only encouraging his anti-social behavior. I wouldn't say that Annie is an evil character. Even if you might call her an antagonist. I like to compare her a lot to characters like Azula. A child becomes what it was raised as. If she were a character in a series she would likely become either a sympathetic villain or a person redeemed.

As far as I know Annie's updated lore is essentially, Tibbers (the teddy bear) houses a Spirit, as you said. The Spirit was a relic stolen by Annie's mother when she fled a place called "Ravenbloom" (I think thats the name?), and all Annie has left of her mother is Tibbers, who she only *calls* Tibbers because she can't actually say the spirits name, Tybaulk, who is a powerful demon of fire. In the card game, Tybaulk releases itself and she fights him, and at the end basically demands he turns back into the teddy bear, and because she is such a powerful Fire Mage, enough so that she was able to beat him, he just...does as she says. Though I don't think it's fear, it's more...interest in how powerful Annie is, and could become. In her original lore she was just sort of a wandering "Dark Child" who had no real control over her magic, and people were trying to make sure she never fell to true darkness because, as it still is, Annie is an unbelievably powerful mage, even though she's only like 8-10, and they want to make sure she never turns to evil because should she do so, who knows how hard it would be to stop her.

So, the video does try to tell us the background of all the people. The drawings the mother pulls out of the drawer and looks at tells the story of how Annie feels not part of the family. We also see her mother in the ground implying that she is dead.

Great video, as always. If you ever want more informations about a character in LoL you can go on the LoL website, there is an entire "Universe" section, you can search for the story of a specific champion or even alternate universe (like K/DA or Star Guardians). As some other comments pointed out, you missed some of the context that was given in the video, but I think most of the videos made by Riot is meant for the players as it's often advertisement for a new skin, a champion rework etc, so they probably leave out informations on purpose. For your next reaction, I'll recommand "Kin of the Stained Blade", pretty long video with some sword fighting that you will most likely enjoy ;)

So, in the original lore, Tibbers was a Shadow Bear that Annie had enthralled and forced into the form of a stuffed animal. In the revamped lore though, it's the other way around, Tibbers is a stuffed animal made by her mother (using the Shadow Bears as a template) that she can use as a focus for her powers and bring to life.

There's official behind the scenes video, check it out. Her teddy bear is a gift from her late mother, sort of a memento. As i understand she has great powers herself, but being a child she doesn't know how to control them yet and that's why we see them sprouting in a moments of emotional spikes. Her alias is the dark child, but i think "the dark" stands for her story and her conditions, she herself isn't evil. I love the painterly style, if i remember correctly they did 3d model and painted over it, also low fps gives this nice painterly, dreamy feel

As others mentioned already Annie's real mother was a witch that one day vanished when she got to a river to fetch water for her sick and feverish daughter and husband. Her Father is a Sorcerer too and she inherited magic herself, obviously to control flames. She has not full control over her power so it reacts strongly to her emotions but she has some control. That's why she smiled when the girls fought over the teddybear. THe flames to burn the other girl, Daisy, were no accident but intended in a way. The smile said it all: Annie was actually pleased that she made the flames do her bidding. The Teddybear was a gift from Annies mother, made and enchanted to protect her and tied to her own powers. So whenever she is scared, angered or sad the bear reacts to her emotions together with her powers, ready to protect Annie from whatever is making her feel miserable. When her Stepmother tried to rip the bear apart, Annie's connection to her real mother, Annie snapped and the bear manifested as a giant creature to eliminate the threat to Annie. Annie is not per se a real villain but she has a distorted relation towards empathy and people, probably caused by the early losses.

The bear, Tibbers, is the monster that Annie 'summons' at the end. Tibbers was given to her by her mother who was a witch. The blonde woman is the mother of Daisy (the blonde girl), and the step Mother of Annie.

I don`t play LoL too, but I really love Annies Video. As you said - it´s ike a shortstory, you don`t need to know more. It makes you ask questions, and when you rewatch it, the most are answered from the details, the rest is up to your imagination. Shortstorys are great. So are short films. I love that painting style to. There were some WoW Videos in this style too. I totally adore it. I dont know, but I think Annies Mom had those powers too. Kin of the stained blade is amazing too if you havent seen it yet!

This was made with CGI Stick figures and then "painted over" digitally. They made wireframes and stuff. This, at the time, was the most ambitious, problem riddled, and longest production Riot had ever done. Their rendering software broke like several times trying to do this, if I recall correctly. There is a Making Of video they put out somewhere. In regards to "good guy" or "bad guy"... A lot (though definitely not all) League of Legends characters are much more nuanced than that. Especially in recent years. Annie isn't evil or good, she is lonely child with a lot of power that she can barely control who is emotionally damaged. In a way that might make her the best type of villain, because she can be one without ever knowing or meaning to be.

Definitely take a look at "The curse of the sad Mummy", Amumu's backstory. It's amazing

The early story is in the storybook which the mother was reading at the beginning. Born in the mountains outside of Noxus, Annie is a child mage with immense pyrokinetic power. Her natural affinity for fire manifested early in life through unpredictable, emotional outbursts that left her childhood home in ruins. Her favorite magical trick involves the summoning of her beloved teddy bear, Tibbers, as a giant, flaming beast that acts as her protector and champion. Annie wanders the dark forests looking for someone to play with her, but most who do never return.

You read Brandon Sanderson? I love you. He is my favorite author, I love to see his growth with every book he has written, I have been following his career ever since "Elantris".

Its hard to say actually whether or not Annie is or isnt a villain. This cinematic is the tragic story of how her actual mom died and like her father and stepfamily also die. In the comment section I can see plenty of people already explaining most of it to you. Yet in regards of whether or not Annie is a villain... She neither is or isnt. It is highly suggested Annie's homeland is Noxus. Noxus on the wiki is described as: "Noxus, also known as the Noxian Empire, is a powerful, brutal, and fearsome expansionist empire (...)" In Annie's pre-remake lore her parents were sort of like Noxian 'deserters'. People who lived in Noxus but didnt side with the Noxian ideals and decided to seclude themselves. Annie's main lore in this video still shares a lot of similarities with the 'original' lore though Riot/League of Legends kind of washed most old lore away as they fleshed out their world and stories. Based off Annie's emotions and facial expressions one could say that she cares more about the bear than most human feelings, possibly because its all that reminds her of her mother. She's young and seems to already have some sort of disconnect towards others, but she remains an 'innocent' child. Maybe one that doesnt quite understand the world around her. Losing her mom at a very young age probably didnt help in that aspect. Still in the end we could argue that Noxus, which is a 'brutal expansionist empire' wouldnt have done her any favors. Wherever she lived it was secluded in the woods and Annie decided not to trust adults and live mostly on her own in the woods. Woods that still belong to an empire that has some questionable or downright ruthless figures as its head honchos. Whether Annie remained alone or not in later life, one could guess that an Empire built by bloodshed would have only tried to use her powers to forward their goals had they heard of her. With Annie's early mild disconnect towards other's emotions it might have been very easy for her to do more evil things rather than good. In the game itself she remains unaffiliated for the most part. As for Daisy, There is a champion named Ivern which is sort of a weird lanky tree looking guy, whom (obviously) connects with nature. His ultimate ability is to summon a big rock Golem he named Daisy. Lulu is a Fae sorceress whom makes use of a fae named Pix (think of that fae as like a familiar) to mess with children. A fae that looks an awful lot like the fairy-butterfly daisy and Annie chase down to the river. Lulu is a similarly questionable character who took to turning children into other things, her favourite option being squirrels. Though not at all confirmed by Riot/League of Legends, it's not wholly impossible that Annie's Step-sister Daisy is later on Ivern's 'friend-golem-familiar' Daisy. Whether Lulu 'helped' in 'aqcuiring' Daisy in this manner is also very 'up in the air'. It could be Daisy was already dead by the time Ivern found her and he simply immortalized Daisy by 'creating' a golem out of her in some way. It could be Ivern did so with Lulu's help. It could be that they are completely uninvolved and the fae we see in this video is just another fae and Daisy simply drowned and was never seen again. Still, in the LORE world of League of Legends/Runeterra, nothing really seems impossible and some coincidences are far too obvious to not be linked. Wouldnt recommend the game of League of Legends itself though, unpopular as that opinion might be.

One thing I thought was powerful, the ending scene was the burning daisy, which was the name of her sister that died.

They really did a great job on this cinematic. Personally I never liked these kinds of art styles because it feels a bit jarring but after I saw it the whole way through it looked really amazing.

Amumu curse of the sad mummy is the other cinematic that imo should have won awards for short story in film but you need the lyrics while you watch

One of my favorites

Every video you ask if this is a villian and if that's a hero. Basically, every "main character" looking person is a playable character. As for the villian or hero goes; you are a filmmaker and you should know by know that the answer isn't as simple every time. League of Legends while a cancer of a game, has amazing world-building and instead of a story-line, there are different stories happening simultaneously and the world they have created feels alive. The lore(s) make up a vast rabbithole that could take many hours to even get through. There are even comics made with the partnership of Marvel Comics and an up-coming cartoon.

If you are interested into fighting scenes and storys i would recommend the overwatch cinematics. Amazing shots and voice acting. Its a ps4 game which is and was really popular. There are also videos about some character origins which are amazing.

I'm sure someone already brought this up to you on another video or during a stream, but if not: do the overwatch animated shorts. There are several of them with different themes and all of them are fantastic, on similar level as the league videos. They are not music videos but short story videos that are very enjoyable even if you don't know anything about the game.

League of Legends doesn't really operate within the terms of 'villains and heros'. They are champions or characters who all come from different regions of the world of Runeterra. The lore universe used to be more black and white and was told in a more biased way, when it came to who was the good- and who was the bad guys. However, Riot has spend the last couple of years giving the universe a complete overhaul, adding way more depth and nuances to the characters. In doing so, they have released cinematic trailers like this, comic books and even added champions to the game, telling the stories of characters and the different regions they are from. Background on Annie: Her mother (a witch) crafted Mr. Tibbers (The bear) while being pregnant with Annie. She made the bear based on the myths of the shadow bears that used to roam the land, protecting people. When Annie was younger her and her father became very ill and Annie got so sick, that she started burning up. In a last attempt to help her child, Annies mom went to the river nearby to get some water to cool her down. The next morning Annie and her father woke up, the father still affected by his illness but Annie feeling much better, with the bear in her arms. The mom however, was never seen again. There is many speculations as to what happened to her mother, and if she gave up her life, to save her child. Many believe that it is her moms spirit that is in the bear, always there to help and protect Annie when she needs it the most (In the game, Annies ultimate power is summoning the spirit within the bear, transforming the teddy bear in to a giant burning bear that attacks and can be controlled). Her powers started to show not long after her mother disappeared and would often manifest itself when she was angry or frustrated and she wouldn't be able to control it. Annie grew up with just her father and as an only child, so when her father decided to remarry the blond woman, who had a child of her own, Annie had a hard to adjusting to not being an only child anymore. That's why some of her reactions/expressions may come off as scary or evil in the cinematic, but also why they do have moments where they genuinely seem to care for each other. Annie did still have problems controlling her powers, which was something her stepmom noticed, and that made her wary of Annie so she always ended up taking her own daughters side. This left the dad in a situation where he had to always mediate between the two parties.

I am catching up on all your reactions. I am wondering as a fight choreographer have you watched the RWBY trailers by Monty Oum? He also did the dead fantasy animations. While the animation quality itself is low due to being animated by one man using poser, the choreography is top notch and the music is great.
