The last song Dyonisus, all 15 minutes, are related to the greek mytholgy and to Dyonisus the God of wine. Each boy represent a Greek God of Olympus: Taehyung is Apollo- the God of sun, Jin is Ares - the God of war with his horse, Jimin is Artemis the Goddes of the Moon, Suga is Hephaestos the God of fire, Jungkook represents Poseidon the Good of the oceans, Jhope is Zeus and the laser light are Zeus thunder weapon and RM is Dyonisus and the stick wich he held is Thyrsus, Dyonisus stick covered in ivy vines. The seven lights represents Corona Boreallis constelation which is the crown that mortal wife of Dyonisus wear on there wedding day. After his wife died he put that crown on the sky and made the constelation to comemorate his wife. The girls with the flowers represent the Maenad - Dyionisus female followers who are dancing and throw flowers when they acompanied Dyonisus. The gigant horn represent Dyonisus cup of wine also called drinking horn. The man on horses represent the Thracian horseman clan that worshipped Dyonisus and the Panther baloon is one of Dyonisus sacred animal. This Award Show performance never gets old. I've lost count of the many many times I have watched it either through a reactor's eyes or on my own over the last 4+ years!! To me, this was a huge FLEX by BTS towards the Big 3. I mean a sample from their entire discography, the confidence they exude and the fact that they walked away with all 4 awards that night!! AND then went on to win all 4 awards from the MAMA show in Hong Kong!! They deserved it!! This performance shows that!! I will never not be awed when I watch it!! And Jimin's dance...perfection!! I was totally mesmerized! And he did it LIVE!!!!

❣️Jimin’s solo performance, wearing a modernized hanbok just fastened by ties only, had many different dance elements in it! Including the barrel leaps taken from Korean dance elements, some martial arts elements, (trained for 8 yrs in various forms w/blackbelt in Taekwondo), & of course contemporary dance. Also, equally ever so stunningly outstanding, was Jimin's scarf work, which is alone so hard to master, without getting that ever so thin veil of a scarf all tangled! Jimin somehow was able to make the scarf one with himself, using it as an extension, even at one point when he did that amazing jump leap straight up the scarf becoming his wings!! Jimin's whole performance was so amazingly stunningly beautiful. Just so effortlessly breathtakingly mesmerizing to see!! Though the other members did a version of their solo performances for benefit of the live audiences, for the broadcast version as seen here, viewer see the prerecorded version, that was prerecorded the day before, since especially JK’s performance in water with that heavy tank that weighed a ton wouldn’t be able to maneuver for live audience, as well as some of the other effects seen like for Mikrokosmos, also the part with the horses was obviously prerecorded as a safeguard for the horses. It also gave a chance for BTS come up for air as well as give them time to change. Jimin was the only one who didn’t have the benefit of prerecorded VCR, which meant that for his solo performance by the broadcasted version, viewers saw Jimin perform live only. While the broadcast version showed for rest of members the prerecorded version. But once again the live audience did get an opportunity to see BTS members do a version of their solos.

This is by far THE GREATEST BTS performance of the biggest scale in a music show, showcasing how HUGE they are 🔥

To answer some of your questions, and to give you a bit of info, as I haven't seen them answered yet in the comments: The VCRs (the videos of them in the room) are entirely prerecorded clips that are shown on the screens. They give the artists time to get dressed and ready etc. You mentioned that there might be links to the BU - we theorised the same thing at the time! Persona, the first song, is a song from 2019, RM's solo intro to Map of the Soul: Persona. The version we see is actually pre-recorded (there are a few give aways, like the fact that the boys aren't seated on the tables at the end and appear there two seconds later, or that RM's mic appears from nowhere), but he will have been actually performing it in the venue as well. It just means that the main audience watching the recording on TV get the perfect version. This was the first time it was ever performed, and it hasn't been performed many times since due to CV19. The song samples 'Intro: Skool Luv Affair', one of their early songs, which explains some of the old school styling, but the decoration had references to their upcoming performances eg Shadow, and Ego. Boy in Luv, the second song, is an older song, released in 2014, when they were in the school era. The Korean title roughly translates to 'Manly Man' and is about being a manly man in a relationship. This performance is completely live. (You mention the camera work a few times - my personal opinion is that MMA is some of the best, getting the key points of choreo, not constantly cutting to audience shots at the worst times. Some might disagree with me though!) Boy with Luv, the third song, was released in 2019 (same album as Persona). It was a collaboration with Halsey. As you might guess from the titles, and the fact that Boy In Luv finishes with the same gesture that Boy with Luv starts with, Boy with Luv is BTS's 2019 response to their 2014 ideas of love that they talked about in Boy in Luv. No longer about being manly men, the translation of the Korean title is 'A poem for the small things', and the fact that love is about loving all the little things about a person (and this whole era was very pink). You'll notice a lot of their later songs are sort of in dialogue with their older songs! This one was also performed completely live. The spoken word piece with words on the screens is exactly as you saw it, but then basically all of Mikrokosmos is pre-recorded (which is how they changed so fast) and played on the screens in the venue (and I don't think they were performing in person either, as they were getting ready for the second half of the show, although I might be wrong, it's been 5 years!) The only live shot you see is the shot of the audience towards the end, waving their lightsticks, with the AR elements overlaid. Mikrokosmos is also from 2019, from the same album as Persona and Boy with Luv. The Dionysus intro is...like no other. I think that to truly, truly appreciate it, you need to know BTS' discography extremely well. Most of these elements that we see were pre-recorded, although Jimin's section was live (although he tried to pre-record I think?) However, the members still performed their sections on stage - JK performed his without water, and they actually forgot to turn on the lights so it was very hard to see! Each of them are dancing to a remixed version of their past songs, in chronological order (obviously not all of them though, as they'd never have enough time!) They're also each styled after a different Greek god (sorry can't remember which is which), and the lightbulbs drop down to form a constellation, Corona Borealis, which was linked with the greek god Dionysus. The songs are: Tae dances to No More Dream from 2013 (you got it right!), Jin dances to Danger from 2014, Jimin dances to I Need You from 2015, Yoongi dances to Fire from 2016, JK dances to Save Me from 2016, Hobi dances to Fake Love from 2017, and Namjoon then leads us into Dionysus from 2019. Then we just have the ongoing Dionysus intro, with women with petals, the rampant panthers(?) and the soldiers. This section is also pre-recorded - the horses weren't actually on stage on the night, but everything else was happening on stage. I'm not sure there's any real purpose behind this part of the performance, other than to get everyone in place and look cool! As soon as the main performance begins everything else is live I think. The dance break section was only ever performed at this show. The first song it is mixed with is 'N.O.' a BTS song from 2013, and then the second song (from where Namjoon and Jin stand up on the long table) is someone else's song. I'm not sure if we ever identified it. When we go back to Dionysus to finish up, you can still hear bits of 'N.O.' in the background. Using this song is a teaser for their work to come, as On (their next title track) was a reference back to N.O. - they often used these end of year performances to tease what was to come. Re: the headsets vs handheld mics - as far as I understand, it's just whichever they feel more comfortable with, although they are a bit more likely to use the headsets in a big dance number. Ha, that's ended up being a bit longer than planned! Hope you enjoyed their performance and this information gives you a bit of a chance to enjoy it more!

So glad you're back Alex!! 💜 In the MMA 2019 Performance they performed 4 entire songs: Intro/Persona, Boy in Luv, Boy with Luv, Mikrokosmos followed by a long intro to the song Dionysus. The intro for Dionysus consisted of excerpts from 6 more of their songs.

I was blown away watching this in 2019 live, i actually still am everytime i see it

❣️This was from the annual Melon Music Awards, a Korean award show the equivalent to the BBMA’s. BTS swept the awards, thus closed the award show, though many other artists did indeed performed beforehand. The cost of the production for BTS entertainment company BigHit, was over 500K dollars, and all the in-house production team of BigHit started planning it over half a yr beforehand! Also most of the rehearsal time that BTS had was while they were touring worldwide. But they all were quite into doing this, and somehow managed to fit in the rehearsal like they did the yr before. All the solo performances were prerecorded live with smaller audience the day before, with exception to Jimin’s solo performance, who only performed live only, without the benefit of prerecorded VCR, since there was no way to have these stage sets and tank pool of water, let alone have JK, who was performing the dance in water, get dried and change clothes beforehand! BTS did also perform a version of their solos, while viewers of the broadcasted version saw also the VCR version filmed day before. The only one who performed live only without benefit of VCR being shown, for the broadcasted version, was Jimin, who shows here being the phenomenal, breathtakingly amazing professional dancer which he is even before signing on to BTS. Also certain songs like Mikrokosmos, as well as beginning part of RM’s Persona, was performed live beforehand and also prerecorded so they could also allow for the special effects that only people who saw the broadcast on TV in South Korea or had it stream worldwide could see that version. Also the part with the live horses was filmed beforehand without an audience.

A curiosity about Boy with lov. In the verse where Jin sings "come be my teacher" we see in the choreography Suga pointing at Jhope and vice versa. They do this because Suga taught Jhope how to rap and Jhope taught Suga how to dance when they were trainees. In music Dionysius each of the 7 members represented differente Greek Gos. Jin was Athena, Suga was Hephaesus or Hades, Hobi was Zeus, Rm was Dionysius, V was Apollo, Jimin was Artemis and Jung kook was Poseidon.

He was also the g-d or wine grape harvest growth! Many interpretations that can be correlated with the song! Dionysus, was so much more then the harvester of grapes vegetation, & creator of wine! Dionysus was the only Olympian with a mortal mother, because he was raised on the mythical Mount Nysa (which was believed to be either far to the south or the east), and because he wandered Asia before arriving in Greece, Dionysus was seen as an outsider. But I believe that this particular performance at MMA 2019 was their best at the awards. Their wonderful songs are collected there: “Intro: Persona”, “Boy In Luv”, “Boy With Luv”, “Mikrokosmos”, “Dionysus” and very beautiful productions.💜 But the way they performed before the last song in this performance and the song “Dionysus” itself is just fire! This is very cool! Bravo not only to the guys themselves, but also to those people who participated in the creation of this legendary performance: choreographers, costume designers, authors who came up with this whole masterpiece, dancers.. After all, this performance does not just show dance and theatrical solo performances of the guys, where each of them moves to separate music and with a different stage design - it is a whole tetra that immerses the audience in the atmosphere of Ancient Greek mythology and the events of that time. BTS made an anology with that time. Each member represents a specific ancient Greek God or Goddess. Each of them corresponds to a certain element and is also associated with a certain BTS song, which most closely matches each element and God. And this is how it turns out: V - God Apollo. Song - No More Dream. V - appears first, as well as the song he dances to - this is the first BTS song that started it all. And it is dedicated to young people who do not have their own dreams, who live as they are told, and not as they themselves want. Apollo is the God of male beauty, God of light, predictor of the future and patron of the arts and theater. Therefore, as seen in the performance, V dances between antique columns and around him are aerial acrobats, who display the art. Jin - Goddess Athena and Goddess Aphrodite (50/50). Song - Danger. This is the song of the second stage of BTS and Jin comes out second. In this song, the guys sing about relationships in which the girl cheats and plays, thereby showing that these relationships are not important for her, she is a hypocrite, and the guy is going crazy, i.e. there is a kind of war going on. Athena - Goddess of victory, wisdom, military strategy and tactics. One of the most revered Goddesses (like Jin - everyone respects him and kind of honors him, since he is the eldest in the group). Aphrodite - Goddess of beauty, eternal spring, fertility (Jin is the world's handsome man). And in the production, Jin rides out on a horse and is belligerent. Jimin - Goddess Artemis. Song - I need U. The next stage and the song says that everything is crumbling, broken, but I still need you like air. Artemis is the eternally young Goddess, the Goddess of hunting, female chastity, giving happiness in relationships. Possesses powerful magical powers. Patroness of all life on Earth. And all living things cannot live without air - it is impossible without it. Every living thing needs it (which is what the title of the song corresponds to). Her element is air. In his performance, Jimin represents this element (and in life, he is the first to come to the rescue when the members are in trouble and bad, he is their reassurance and a breath of air). Suga - God Hephaestus. Song - Fire. Hephaestus - God of fire, maker of lightning. One of the most influential Gods. The patron of blacksmithing, inventions, the builder of all buildings on Olympus (Which corresponds to Suga himself, since he is a member who not only writes songs, but also produces them. And not only in his group, but also to other people. And by analogy, he is builder, primary source in the group). Well, I think the correspondence of the chosen song to which he comes out is clear. And around him on the stage there is fire and lightning (light). Next, Jungkook is the God Poseidon (or Neptune). Song - Save Me. Poseidon is the supreme sea god. He is merciless to those who insult him, but is favorable to those who honor and love him. He has a quick temper and a difficult disposition. His weapon is a trident, with which he is able to cause storms and break rocks (Which, it seems to me, fully corresponds to Jungkook himself - he is the main vocalist and is at the top - the center of the group. About his character - he himself says that he is difficult; and He can move mountains, he loves the members and Army who love him). Element of water - on stage Jungkook dances in water. The song talks about a relationship in which the girl extended her hand and saved him from loneliness, from himself, from the darkness into which he plunges alone with himself - in dreams, in thoughts. And she is a bright light for him. Also in water, when a person drowns, he plunges into darkness, but there is light at the top. Next, J-Hope is God Zeus. Song - Fake Love. Zeus is the God of the sky, thunder, lightning, who is in charge of the whole world. The main and most powerful God. He distributes good and evil on Earth. Fair. According to legend, he built the entire social order on Earth (just like J-Hope - everyone considers him an unofficial leader, since he has very strong good energy, he gives strength to all the guys. Just an FYI, some of the stages were recorded ahead of time. Mikrokosmos, the first half of of RM' solo song, the video in-between the stages were all pre-recorded.

Some context - in the tour they had just finished at this point, Dionysus was the opening song. They increased its epicness ten times for this performance, because it so well established already as a really intense and massive performance. The inflatable tigers for example, is the actual set for this song from their Love Yourself Speak Yourself tour. They had to top that somehow ... and the result is this 15 minute feast of a perfomance!

Yes you were correct it was Soobin& Yeonjun from TXT that you saw.I can’t imagine how much time and effort it took to put this whole performance together. The stage design and set up alone must have taken months to complete and then you have BTS themselves this had to take months to completely finish.

That last scene where RM slams that staff down at 29:41, what they don't show is the staff slipped and well, he hit himself very hard in the man parts! Poor guy performed in severe pain but you can't tell. ALSO THIS IS JUST AN AWARD SHOW NOT A FULL CONCERT!

The first songs are actually pre-recorded (same day, different time) until they showed the real performance. Most of the time, the biggest kpop group at the moment is the last in the line up to end the show and were given more time to perform. So the real live there as we are watching are always the last one with surprising special choreography and great stage props and perf. You're always great at explanation, love the reaction~

All of the songs are kind of highlights from debut to 2019. The MMAs are kind of Asias equivolent to the VMAs and all the stages are intense on the night!! The artists look forward to performing this night and put a lot of effort into their MMA performances.

i’m new here so i don’t know if you’re aware that this is an award show, not a bts concert. the little stage with other people sitting is the artist zone, that’s why we got a little close shot of soobin and yeonjun and other artists too. again, idk if you were maybe talking about another part of the stage, if that’s the case my bad.

Remember this is an award show performance and not a BTS show. Then look at the number of ARMY bombs/nightsticks that are lit up! I also think this is one of the shows that didn’t allow light sticks at all, but that many fans brought them in for their favorite artists, sometimes multiple artists light sticks, and the white lights are all from ARMY. FYI MMA show lasts ~3 hours and this BTS performance was ~50min long. They were on stage for more than 1/4-1/3 of the total show length. Also I believe BigHit makes sure that they have control of the cameras during BTS performances to get the best possible angles for those performances. They basically had a mini concert in the broadcast time slot of an awards show. At this point in time, BTS and Coldplay were in discussions, if not in production, of the Coldplay song featuring BTS titled “My Universe”. For obvious reasons, water on stage is a hazard and animals behave unpredictably in a high intensity environment, need to be staged and recorded without an audience, but if you look up JK’s performance at this show you will see he is performing LIVE BACKSTAGE FOR HIS SOLO. (Btw I’m not JK bias, but I respect and applaud his dedication! And then his bunny quality cuteness) SORRY COMMENTING AS I WATCH!!! Yes that is the No More Dream refrain after the curtain drops on Boy With Love, and the solo performances begin Idk if this is just my own interpretation of the timeline, but it seems like “Burn,” as Suga’s solo performance could have the hidden undertone as, the pain he suffers from his chronic shoulder pain, which resulted from an injury suffered in his trainee days which he tried to hide from his agency, because he wasn’t supposed to have a part-time job while he was a trainee even though he didn’t have the money to pay for both food and public transportation. He got into an accident, which he hid from his agency, BigHit, for fear of being abandoned.

Firstly it's difficult to know what is prerecorded here. Some of it looks live but isn't. ARMYs who were there can tell you. They try to have the one singing front and centre. Yes, 'Boy in Love' is an early one and has JK rapping as well as the rap line. Those flames can be dodgy to work with. It makes it very hot and they sometimes get too close and in danger. 'Boy with Love', is fairly recent and the female voice you can hear is, Halsey. It was Soobin and Yeonjun from TXT watching them. At the time they were still very much the babies at BigHit. I don't know why they choose a handheld over a Britney (head) mic but sometimes it seems to depend on the type of choreo. I think SUGA prefers the handheld.' There is a behind the scenes which shows how RM did the star in Mikrokosmos. RM's staff was Dionysus' thyrsus. It's Greek not Roman mythology. Once the Dionysus section starts it's all to do with the different Greek gods the boys represent. The song is about drinking basically. Every performance of this is a knock out. It's so intense that once the lights go down at the end they nearly collapse but they hold it until then. Only this performance has the horses and the ladies with the baskets of flowers and the aerialists. How JK and J-Hope dance on a moving piece of staging I'll never know. I understand that their agency would've paid for all of this. It is a tour de force.
