I actually like this movie the most out of all of them. My favorite scene from the whole trilogy is when Gordon realizes Batman is Bruce "A hero can be anyone, even a man who would do something so simple, and encouraging, as putting a coat around a young man's shoulders, to let him know the world hadn't ended."

I can totally understand if people have issues with this movie, but I like it a lot. To me the feel/atmosphere of this movie just elevates it above the script 'issues'.

Bane and Batman's fight is incredible.... but honestly the lines Bane drops during it are the best part for me. Every line is a banger! "Peace has cost you your strength. Victory has defeated you!" "Ahh you think darkness is your ally, but you merely adopted the dark. I was born in it. Moulded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing but BLINDING!" "I was wondering what would break first.... your spirit... or your body!"

The boy who couldn't save his parents, saved an entire city. The man who couldn't save his love, found a new life. The batman that people have forgotten, will forever remain in history.

I really love the moment when Batman tells Gordon who he is and the shot at the end. Anyone can be Batman, anyone can be a hero - provided they have a moral compass and show initiative.

I heard the palm on shoulder that Bane does is improvised by Tom Hardy and also the "What a lovely lovely voice" was too. This man can play any character and knock it outta the park every time.

I am a 54 year old woman with 4 boys and I can say loud and proud that I LOVE Batman with every breath in my body. These movies make me laugh, cry, yell and they make my body form goosebumps all over! I watch them over and over! Thank you for reacting to them! Good luck on that move too James! 😉

I love how in the lazarus pit, the fear of death was kinda literal, as the safety rope added just enough weight to make you miss the ledge.

One of the things that I like about this movie that sets it apart from both the Batman films and the tv shows is that Batman actually gets a happy ending. His role in his mission is complete, he passed the torch, and rode off into the sunset with his woman. True western movie feel there.

I love that the Pit prison is visually the same as the well that Bruce fell down as a child. That was just a genuinely amazing way of full circling Bruce.

I love the climb scene so much. Obviously the pit is as symbolic as it is real. Bruce falls and he relies on his father to come and save him, just like he did as a child (the rope). But he has to let that go. Only then can he rise and only then can batman rise into the light, and he can be batman during the day for the first time.

“why do we fall? so we can learn to pick ourselves up” - Bruce falls so far into hopelessness and despair that he welcomes death, but he learns to conquer this in order to save both himself and Gotham, which leads him to both literally and figuratively pick himself up and out of the pit. Full circle.

This is my favorite out of the three because of the character writing. It’s Bruce’s journey through being a broken man to a man who can conquer his fears. Plus Bane is a sick ass villain+The ending is amazing

This is my favourite out the three, I just love the score especially gothams reckoning. And bane as a villain is just awesome.

What I like about this trilogies villains is that they each kind embody a concept taken to the maximum. Scarecrow is pure Fear or Insanity. Joker is pure Chaos or Madness. Ra's Al Ghul & Bane are pure Fanaticism.

I remember watching this in the cinemas twice and I felt so emotional from how they wrapped up Bruce and Alfred's sort of father and son relationship and Bruce leaving Gotham in the hands of John Blake, so good.

This movie has plenty of iconic scenes, but I have two in particular that give me chills. 1. Bruce successfully escaping "the pit". The whole sequence is great, but when the bats show up it has a visceral effect on me. The imagery and music feels like it is tapping into something more ancient and primal, like this is the hero's journey, the same story that has been told a thousand times over history. Bruce escaping this pit is just a visual way of showing a man overcoming his own demons, "rising" above it literally and figuratively. When Bruce sees the bats, he is shocked, but then becomes calm, almost tranquil. He is remembering his origins. Batman isn't just a mask: HE is and always has been "the batman." He has what it takes to overcome this. He believes in himself again. Also love how he stops to throw a rope down into the pit so the others can escape too. He is a true hero and leader. He showed them the way out and gave them the tools to free themselves. Those men will never forget him for the rest of their lives. 2. It is a brief moment, but at the end of the movie, after Bruce (and Batman) have been pronounced dead, the citizens unveil a huge statue of batman to a crowd in city hall, and the audience stands to applaud it, as Gordon looks on. Up until now, even when the police "looked the other way" or cooperated with Batman, they never once acknowledged him in any official way. He was always a "silent guardian" but they acted ashamed of him. No more. Everybody knows exactly who he is. He is Gotham's true hero. He saved them all. He deserves their respect and they have finally given it to him. It's a huge moment.

If you haven't seen "The Intern" (2015) it's a great movie but no one reacts to it. Love your reactions!

If I remember right… Hans Zimmer put a call out to the fans to record themselves saying the chant and send it back to him. What were hearing is everyone’s recording combined. Such a cool part of the music.

12:54 - This shot of Bane climbing down the chain is one of the most underrated VFX scene in the entire movie. Because they reversed a shot of Bane climbing UP that chain, and even THEN somehow managed to get the water to animate correctly in the reversed shot. Then again, I guess it's not that unheard of, because they did the same trick in "Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" on an establishing shot of Mustafar, reversing the camera's zoom while maintaining the direction of lava flow. But that's Star Wars - that particular shot was probably completely CGI, anyway - while Bane's reversed chain climb was 100% practical.

I'll always be someone who appreciates these films with a bit of nostalgia because I remember myself and a bunch of classmates going to a theatre in our area that did a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises but also showed Batman Begins and The Dark Knight beforehand and it was such a fun experience. We all then went out to a 24 restaurant nearby and then classes without any sleep. Good times, Great memories.

This is my favorite Batman film. I understand people love and see The Dark Knight as the best and favorite, but having seen this film in marathon form on the big screen in 2012 when it came out, really made me love this film the most. Got to see the beginning of the trilogy like at 6:30 and went home at 4 in the morning. Awesome film and it’s a fantastic way to end the trilogy and Bruce Wayne’s journey as Batman. Christian Bale is still the best Bruce Wayne/Batman to me. He really nailed the characters three personas and added a layer of depth that made the character even better for me. Great reaction man!

I was highly underwhelmed by this movie when I first saw it. I like it more every time I see it. I'm up to about a dozen times now, and at this point, I love it. Once I recognized all the references to A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, (besides the obvious quote from the book) it turned a corner fast for me. For a superhero film, it's got great depth and is layered in ways you might not notice without multiple viewings. I guess that's what you are going to get from Christopher Nolan for the final movie in a series.

I cry whenever I see Alfred break down at the graves of the Waynes.

One important note about your comment after 18:34. Your interpreted it as him having to NOT to be afraid in order to make it but I think what the older man was saying was exactly the opposite, he NEEDS fear to be able to make the climb. He said "fear will find you" and that would be the key, that's also why the bats show up right before the crucial jump bringing everything back to his life-long childhood fear that has driven him this whole time and giving him the extra motivation as he now (without the rope) HAS TO to face the consequences of his success/failure and has to gather the strength he needs to make it out. 💪

I love how the genre are somewhat different. Batman Begins-Horror/Thriller, TDK- Crime, TDKR- War

For talias motivation, she learns from bane and ras al ghul from league of shadows that all criminals must be killed without mercy, but because bane and herself are an extremist breakaway from the league, they see gotham itself as the manifest of all things bad and see it as needing to be destroyed and restarted again, mix in what the joker plagued the city with everyone is paranoid and on the verge of lunacy.

One word for this movie, BOMBASTIC. Which pretty much kicked over a lot of logic,

The thing about Harvey, to me, is that you can see his darker side before his face is ever burned. Rachel was his anchor to the light & without he was fully enveloped in it. It was only a matter of time honestly.

Most of Rises' problems really just come down to it trying to fit too many elements into one movie, and they don't all get the time they deserve. -The harsh reality that being Batman nonstop for not even a full 10 years has savaged Bruce's physical body basically stops being a plot point after putting on a knee brace and recovering from the first Bane fight. Originally thought this was gonna tie back to how Batman was originally meant to be a symbol to inspire people, and Bruce would realize that he doesn't have to *personally* beat up Bane himself/alone to win. -Selina, Blake, and Miranda all have the same problem of fighting for appropriate screentime to make their arcs feel fulfilling. Catwoman especially feels like a waste since Hathaway really owns the role. -Whatever else you want to say about Bane, the boy is a meme machine and almost every line he has is gold.

Bold choice to cast Hardy, considering his size back then. But he sure as hell went all in and gave it his best, dude became an actual BEAST.

what a great ending to a phenomenal trilogy

Bane slapping Batman around is powerful, because it's the first time in the trilogy that Batman's been unable to win a fight. Bane is literally brains plus brawn, and Bruce Wayne has to "kill" Batman to get the crisis to end.

I highly recommend watching Batman: The Animated Series/The New Batman Adventures, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Batman and Mr. Freeze: Subzero, Batman Beyond and Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. The coach and some of the players on Gotham's football team are then-current and former members of the Pittsburgh Steelers

I remember seeing the first scene as a sort of teaser that was shown before the new Mission Impossible movie with the original audio of Bane talking. A lot of people complained they couldn't understand him at all so they went back and recorded Tom Hardy's voice for that scene again and put it in the movie. I personally liked the original audio more and didn't really have trouble understanding him. His new dubbed voice sounds a bit too off for me and it's a little disappointing since it's a fantastic opening scene otherwise.

Lol if you re-watch the Catwoman/Batman fight on the roof, the background shows a stunt guy just falling down because Anne missed her mark (the corridor crew has a react to it)...but the stuntman guest also said it's a negative effect from Nolan using film and not doing a reshoot or another take since "overall" it looked fine.

not my favorite in the trilogy, but still a great Batman movie nonetheless. This is one of those prime examples of Tom Hardy being able to disappear into his role. As always, we love and appreciate the reaction my guy! Have a blessed day!

Grew up watching it and love it and I love this Bane

I always interpreted it not as him needing to be without fear but to find his fear again. Fear keeps us alive, without it Bruce ended up where he did. It was hubris and being overly self confident that saw him defeated by Bane. Bane isn't without fear, he's just hardened it and shaped it into a weapon, driven by an incredible will to force. Ra's wasn't without fear. Ra's understood fear better than anyone. Bruce lost himself and some of his humanity in adopting the batman. Only by finding his humanity again could he find the strength to beat Bane. Only through acknowledging and controlling his fear could he escape the prison.

James, I don't weigh these three against one another. Rather, I see them as parts of one whole. I still have problems with Ras Al Gul's nonsensical response to evil by destroying a city, followed by Bane and Talia attempting to complete that task. I preferred Ras's original comic book incarnation. But I still consider this one of the best movie trilogies of all time.

This movie has some of the best moments in the whole trilogy. The part when Bruce loses the rope to push himself to climb out of the pit has always stuck with me. I do feel like a lot of stuff is contrived to make the story happen (all the cops going in the sewers so they can be absent while Bane rules the city, also everyone not using guns in the street battle is really just so that Batman can fight in the battle). These contrivances don't take away from the overall greatness though, imo

If you remember in the first film Lism Neeson told Bruce Wayne that Gotham didn’t deserve salvation and had to be destroyed. That’s the reason of blowing it with the bomb along with all it’s citizens.

22:27 This isn't explained in the movie well (besides 'innocent is a strong word to throw in Gotham') but it's Ra'as' core code that Gotham itself is inescapably corrupt and all those who are born and live in it will become corrupted. He applies it to humanity as a whole but feels that the corruption is strongest in Gotham. In the larger canon the real kick is that he is using the same substance that is corrupting Gotham - Lazarus - to keep himself alive and powerful for *centuries* , and Batman frequently points out the hypocrisy in it.

I like the juxtaposition between the Joker and the League of Shadows. The Joker is a nihilist. For him existence is without meaning or purpose. Societies pretensions of order through institutions and laws is futile. The Joker wants to expose that truth and rejoice in the chaos that result of that. Meanwhile, the League of Shadows is basically a cult obsessed with order and social balance. When the institutions fail they destroy them so society begins again. They are ideologues. In the novelization of TDKR there’s a moment when Bane is liberating the criminals out of the prison. In there he’s told that The Joker is in his cell. Bane takes a look at him a order his men to keep him in his cell. Bane knows that the Joker can thwart his plan, his destiny, with the chaos and unpredictability only the Clown Prince of Crime can do.

In the Lazarus pit the old man was telling Bruce that he NEEDS to feel fear of death in that moment. Its what drives him to put in that extra desperation and push to survive the jump

Still makes me wonder what was originally planned for part 3. Joker returning alongside Bane and possibly Two Face? I'll need to research if there was an early script.

This film got so much unfair criticism from so called critics when it came out. I really enjoyed it as a cinematic experience and liked the way it bookmarked the whole trilogy, whilst still being it's own thing.

The Nolan Batmans are a little clunky and overly long for me, but the greatness in them outweighs all that. Just great experiences.

"Where is he?!!!" World's greatest detective ladies & gentlemen... 👏 👏 👏 Nolan's Batman is just violence and intimidation. He never detects anything. And when he can't use violence better than Bane, he loses.
