In my pursuit of filmmaking, I've found the sober reality of still being empty. Maybe you've encountered that too. I don't think filmmaking is unique in that aspect, in fact, I think all careers will lead us to the same feeling of being empty. If you haven't experienced or heard this piece of advice yet, let me be the first to tell that you filmmaking won't fulfill you.
The talking head was filmed with the Sony FX3 at 12800 ISO. With the short film parts filmed with the Red Komodo.

"The man who loves walking will go further than the one who loves the destination." Nothing worse than reaching a destination only to realise "is that all there is?", we find the most purpose and fulfilment when we are working towards something. Found your channel today and your film making is great man, seems as though it's inspired and resonated with many. What's not to say it won't from now until the end of time? The goal isn't to live forever, it's to create something that will and I think you've done/are doing exactly just that.

Saving this video for when that burnout inevitably hits again! Thank you for putting into words something my mind hasn't been able to comprehend for years. From my early teens, I put all my eggs in one basket. Filmmaking was the goal, the destination. And that drive excelled me through school and university, but I missed out on so much more. Social activities, friends, myself. I got so wrapped up in the audience, the views, the response, that I neglected the rest of my life. Sometimes, we need to remember to make art... just for the sake of art, not the attention. Thank you so much for this, Jordan!
@jordanadudek

You summarized that wonderfully Sam! And you’re right, that burnout will inevitably come again, and that’s just part of it. I do think there are times in our life when we can pursue things more in our life, but there’s a time for everything. As long as we get that time to rest, recover, and be with people we care for. Sounds like you already know all of that too! Thank you for commenting and thank you for being here 😊

I think most of us fall into this - Wanting to share the things we make and along with that, wanting people to like them. We want to be loved for the things we create. This one hit home. Good message brotha.

Phew, you hit the nail on the head with that. I definitely do a lot of things out of wanting to be loved. I’ve found it can be more powerful to create from being loved, instead of trying to be loved. Preciate you as always man 🫡

Dude! Another gorgeous video! I think I use my personal filmmaking to have fun with my friends and my crew, or if it's smaller videos of just me, I know i'll always be able to look back and see myself from a different time. It's almost like a lifelong documentary project for me, by me. Everything in between are just the chapters of my own story.

Absolutely Jordan! We as artists view our worth by the level of our creations. But we have to realize people don't love us as individuals cause we are filmmakers. We are loved for who we are as humans. The most difficult thing ive struggled with is not soley focusing on my career. I hit burnout a month ago and it was horrible. Anxiety and depression set it. I realized I had been so self absorbed for 8 months. If you drive yourself too hare in your passion it will destroy you. We are more than artists, and we have to go be more than artists. Awesome vid, I'm glad you made it.

Man, you just keep putting out great stuff. I agree with you and think it's so easy to fall for the trap of focussing on result. And wandering down this path too much makes you fall out of love with the process, making it harder to motivate yourself and resulting in a negative spiral. For me, focussing more on doing what I love, whether that's filmmaking on one day or just reading a book the other day, has helped me to put less stress on results (sometimes, I still struggle daily haha). In the effort to pursue a career, we sometimes forget to listen to our own needs and those of people around us

I am getting so frustrated recently because I am so focus on what I am doing, on what I am trying to learn and master and work, that I usually end up losing myself, losing my free time, all I have to spare with my loved ones. This is really something that pulls out of you a lot, it gives also a lot but It requires a lot of stress, hard work and passione. Sometimes thats too much for me, I feel I cant get over it and I dont want to continue on this path. Then I find videos like yours and I dont feel alone, I feel that I can work on it and pursue my passion without losing myself and all the things I love. Thank you Jordan!

I agree that this field can really take a lot out of you, because it’s not something you can “clock in and out” of. Of course, some can find the balance quicker than others, but I’m with you. Bro this video reached me at the perfect time, I’ve just started making my first short film and have so many ideas for it including great scenes and shots, but obviously that’s in my head, I’ve found it’s a lot harder to do it in the real word and to get the shots I wanted mostly because of my lack of equipment and stuff. Thanks for this though it’s already inspired me to look for the positives and not be too disappointed with my first film as I obviously wanted it to be great to show my family and friends, but thanks to your video I am just going to try to embrace it as the first step in my filmmaking journey, and to not force it to overshadow the rest of my life or my mood if it’s not exactly what I wanted. Thanks man sorry for the long comment but I really appreciated this video ❤

Thank you Jordan, I love you too. And like you, I love my filmmaking. When I started this job, everything was very exciting and full of fun. Until I was exhausted from work, sometimes I felt like hating myself and the job I was doing. It was a difficult time indeed. I feel like I'm lost and not happy with making movies anymore. I had a dialogue with myself, rediscovered the moment I first picked up the camera and decided to pursue filmmaking. And just like you share in this video, I realized, my work and passion for filmmaking shouldn't be my whole life. I need to make time for other important things too. And I think when we have experiences outside of work, that makes it possible to make a good movie. Take care and be happy, my friend!
