The fimi mini 3 is definitely feature packed. Many more features than my DJI mini 2 and comparable to my DJI mini 3 pro. Some of the features work better than dji. eg. orbit. However my dji drones are better flying., more stable, better in windy conditions and fly further and for longer. I'm happy with my fimi mini 3. Good for the money. However if you can afford it always buy DJI. You'll have a better experience.

Nice review as always, I have learned a lot from you over the years. The Fimi Mini has a digital zoom slider next to the shutter button. It also has a convenient sport model button in the right bottom of the main screen. And then there's the tracking, in Lock mode you can also have the drone orbit the moving subject at different directions and speed. Very nice features to me. Thank you for your contribution to this amazing hobby.

Well done Captain!; thank goodness when you tried the "Lock" mode you had your pants on !!!!!; joke aside, the Camera Video quality (Colour / sharpness) reminded a lot of the Typhoon H / Xiro / The Egg! as I believe they were all Sony Cameras / Sensors, very impressive!

Good demo of most features. If you want features at a fair price then the fimi mini 3 is the drone for you. If you got money and value performance and quality and a great customer experience buy a you know what.

If you are a hobbyist and want more competitive choices, at better prices, never buy a "you know what". Obstacle Over Hype is a Gimmick, as are these advertised ridiculous ranges. There should be a different rating for this instead of "range". As a hobbyist you would have to break FAA rules to use these features to their fullest. Visual line of sight means you have to be able to see the drone with your own eyes, all the time. Purposely turning your back to your drone while flying it means you can no longer see the drone with your own eyes, unless you are looking over your shoulder the entire time. Even a rear view mirror is not your own unaided vision just as using binoculars is not.

@@paulking7019 I own hubsan, mjx, Fimi, eachine and You Know What camera drones. The best by far are You Know What. As far as OA is concerned I don't need it. However, I always have it on when using tracking/follow me. PS. The marketplace is not stupid. You Know What is number one and dominates for a reason. They have the best combination of quality, performance, customer service and price. PPS. I bought a 3 battery Fimi Mini 3 package. Received it on June 2 with one battery. Still waiting on other two batteries. Also USB C cable was defective. Now waiting for replacement. This would not have happened with you Know What.

It does shoot vertical but the gimbal does not rotate (you are thinking of the DJI mini 3 and 4 pro).

Again a nice review, just one question I can not find yet. Does it do 360 degrees panorama (like most DJI drones)? I use that a lot and this would be a great small, cheap travel drone.

I can tell you that the FIMI does not stitch the pictures together as good as a DJI drone. With the FIMI it is best to use your own stitching software.

Good review. Looks like a good drone for the price. My main question is about the waypoints. Can it save and load missions? Can you create missions with the phone only not connected. And are the missions totally stored in the drone, so that you can fly out of signal range missions? I found that dronelink won't do them with my mini 3 pro, which makes it pretty worthless for me.

There were 3 waypoint options modes to pick from. I only tried the one. Not sure what the other two do but they may do part of what you mention. I’ll try in future.

Great review as usual, very comprehensive test. Question Steve, I did have the FIMI Mini the original, then the Version 2 came out roughly a year ago. And you’re reviewing the FIMI Mini 3 you say. In a nutshell is there any upgrades or changes from the version 2 to the Mini 3 the one your doing now ! As I have the orange version 2 I purchased about 6 months ago ! That's crazy! I paid slightly more for a Holy Stone drone that did much less than this one a couple years ago. The fact that you can get a DJI equivalent mini drone for $250 says a lot about how far technology has come! That's great for those of us with less disposable income than others. I do own DJI mini, through DJI Mini 3 Pro, and I know the Fimi Mini 3 won't be quite the same level of precision but with that in mind, I think it's a great alternative if that's all you can afford! I would buy one in a heartbeat if I didn't own all the lower end, DJI Mini drones! I am curious about distance though. Off camera, have you "heard" an actual distance they reliably can fly up to? Great video and information about the Fimi Mini 3 Cap! Thanks for sharing!!

Distance and Flight Time mentioned by all Drone Companies is always unachievable to the average human. This is why less than 1% of DJI owners achieve the advertised flight time & range, unless flying out on the salt flats. So, as mentioned in the video, flight time is advertised as 32 min, but I was getting more like 25 min (If I force 32 min, the battery would be at zero). Range is advertised at 5.5 miles, so I’d say the average human would get 4.5 miles.

It took forever. Mine was ordered when first announced. Fimi is what I consider to be an unorganized company. They often run out of stock because they ship worldwide. Yours will arrive when you least expect it. Mine arrived with no notice.

There should be a drone that can follow an RC aircraft, so that you can put your FPV headset on and fly the RC aircraft, but using the camera on the drone, like 3rd person view in a video game. It'll be epic, I mean god knows if it can be done, but I'm just and ideas man, I'll leave the details to the engineers.

No such drone with camera exists. The only way to chase and film an RC plane is with an FPV Drone and a very skilled FPV Pilot.

@@marksouthworth6297 Maybe a DJI Air 2S with Maven, Dronelink, or Litchi and then use GPS follow-me with your phone on the rc plane. You will only have the controller and no image feed obviously. And I doubt it will keep the rc plane in frame the whole time if you change direction. Also I'm sure sure if one of those apps have the option to choose the type of follow, what I call 'compass' where it stays north south east west relative to the plane (phone) or 'string' where it only follows from behind. It's all theory of course. But the idea is that it can't lose the plane/phone with GPS follow-me. While with optical tracking chances are practically zero it can keep up like Tom Cruise in Top Gun. .

DJIs are so… gray? Well, because grey is a neutral color. DJI invests not just in drones but also in video and photography, achieving a quality that, in my opinion, no other drone can match. It's no wonder they collaborated with Hasselblad, the renowned camera brand used during the Apollo program missions when the first humans landed on the Moon.

@@Project_Engine Back in 2013 when I bought my first DJI drone, called the PHANTOM. It was white. DJI kept the color white for all consumer (ready to fly) drones until the launch of the original MAVIC. White, as a color, tends to mark and often yellow after a while. Grey avoids such problems.

@@carlodefilippi6914 Dull gray makes more sense. Doesn't overheat like black. Also is more stealth (harder to see) in the sky. That way your local Karens won't bother you. When I buy a drone I always look for something that is inconspicuous.. small, quiet and gray are best..ie. DJI are the best

I wonder if the Potensic batteries work in the Fimi drones? Im just guessing, but I wonder if the manufacturer for Fimi is the same as Potensic.

Nope. You only calibrate the compass if the drone tells you to. The only time the drone will tell you to do that is if you went and placed the drone near a metal object before takeoff.

I know they are the leaders on the market,but it's time to try some different. 17:25 when you put on 48M photos, video transmission becomes really laggy? Is it hard to fly then? On fimi site is being sold for 349$ and your code for 50$ off is not working... From where do they ship, did you have to pay additional tax/vat?

Captain Drone won't show you the 48mp flying problems because it won't help sell the Fimi from his link.

Yes, I purposely showed in the video that if you select 12 megapixel or 48 megapixel, the image coming back to the transmitter is too high a resolution so you get a choppy signal. You have to leave the drone in video mode until such time you wish to frame & take a photo in PHOTO MODE. The only way to get around this in photo mode is to leave the Photo mode in 8 megapixel while you fly. I’m sure Fimi will fix this with a firmware update. As for price, on BANGGOOD it is supposed to be $299 at checkout when my coupon code is applied. On the FIMI site they had a $50 off using the FIMI code… Perhaps that sale ended?

The Fimi mini 3 is a good drone for beginners who like a lot of features. I own Fimi mini 3, DJI mini 2, and DJI mini 3 pro. Besides the features the Fimi mini 3 pales in comparison to DJI when it comes to video/photo quality and performance. The fimi video/photos look over saturated with bad color profile. The microchip is weak and gives you poor transmission. Flight time and range are much shorter than DJI. Hover is very unstable and it flies poorly on windy days. If you are a professional photographer buy DJI. If you are a beginner then Fimi is good enough for you.

I would avoid Fimi drones all together.they sent me a defective drone then sent me a return label, it was delivered and signed for and they tried saying they didn’t get it and I have to get the drone back(from across the country) and send it to china, which obviously at this point is impossible to do. The kicker was when they tried to tell me to mark the value of the drone as 1$ and to tell the post office there are no batteries so they get as cheap as possible shipping. Xioami Fimi Is a scam. That’s just my experience but the drones suck too. Honestly the toiletbowling is worse then holy stone which is saying a lot

It is good drone until it comes to support, especially on fixing the drone after warranty and you want to pay for it. Then it all fails and money is thrown away. There is a reason why you pay for drones like DJI that offers support years after the released product.

How far are you allowed to fly in Canada? In the UK you're not supposed to fly further than you can see the drone without aid -- meaning with a Mini-sized drone you lose line of sight at around 150 meters. I won't admit that I've ignored that rule, but once you get the thing out to 150m, if you take your eye away from it for a moment the chances are you can't reacquire!

BE CAREFUL ordering this drone. I ordered 3 battery package. Received with one battery on June 2. Still waiting for additional 2 batteries. Still not shipped. Remember once you pay for it you are stuck with it even if is defective. Fimi customer service is bad.

Just so you don’t get the wrong understanding of the video… that range test was not MAX range. As noted in the video, I live in Canada and am not permitted to fly out 5.5 miles, so I cut it short at just under 1.5 miles just to show that the video coming back to the transmitter was not choppy.

I received the mini 3 today and I could not even reach 400 meters without losing video signal and I was doing the same route I did many times with the Potensic Atom going 5 km ( 10km total ). Tried 2.4 and 5.8GHz, many antenna angles to no avail, the signal goes frame by frame and when I turn the drone it just completely breaks the connection and the drone enters RTH. Do you happen to have any tips on that ? Thanks

@@virpzThe DJI mini 3 should fly farther than that. Now if it was the older models like Mini 1 or Mini SE models then those old models are wifi and have no range. You must be in an area with crazy interference.

@@CAPTAINDRONE798Sorry, I was taking about the fimi mini 3. Well, the potensic is wifi and can handle that same area pretty well and got 10x more range . I will try a new pairing tomorrow and see how that goes. FCC tells me the fimi got one antenna for 5.8GHz and the other for 2.4GHz on the drone and controller and that setup makes it is very limited specially if you turn the drone to the right while using 5.8GHz. DJI mini 2/4k got two dual band antennas and the potensic atom got two 2.4GHz antennas and with that kind of arrangement it doesn't matter which side you turn the drone to. 5.8Ghz is good for short range penetration and 2.4GHz is better at long range.
