I have heard reports that he recorded a show due to be broadcast this weekend, but it will now not be aired. This is a terrible decision, if true. Unless his family object to it being broadcast, it should absolutely be aired as a tribute and a final farewell to this legend of a radio era which is now almost gone completely.

I’m under 50 and whilst not an avid listener, I did a temp job 18 months back and they had Radio 2 on in the afternoons and it was always fun and good to listen to. It was like listening to an old friend from my youth and there was always a story or quip that made us all laugh or even spark a conversation between us about what we’d just heard Steve talk about. His voice and tone never changed in 40 years, always bright but warm at the same time. Why the BBC didn’t think he appealed to the under 50’s I don’t know? Will be sadly missed x

Such sad and shocking news, but now now that Steve Wright has left us, I now have no reason at all to tune in to BBC Radio 2. I stopped listening to the Morning show when Zoe Ball took over and went on to what is now Greatest Hits Radio, I stopped listening in the afternoon when they took Steve away from his brilliant afternoon show, I stopped listening in the early evening on my journey home, when the messed up Simon Mayo’s show by putting in a female DJ with him, it ruined his show, but thankfully his show continues on Greatest Hits Radio, I stopped listening to R2 in the morning when Ken Bruce moved to GHR where I can still enjoy his show, I was expecting them to make an offer to Steve Wright as he would have been welcomed there by all his listeners who appreciated his humour and variety, I don’t know if it was ever considered but I’m sure all his loyal listeners would have tuned in to him and his posse there I still hope that Tony Blackburn will get an offer to transfer to GHR as that is where he truly belongs now that R 2 has ruined the schedules. I was left with tuning in on Sundays to Steve Wright, my only time listening to R2, so now no more R2 for me. You only realise how good a DJ is when someone that is not a natural DJ stands in for them. BBC radio 2 has the stupidity to believe that ordinary celebrities can do the job, but it just proves what a difficult job it is, to get your personality over just by radio. I just hope that Steve knew how much he was appreciated and loved by his audience, I’m in my 70’s so have grown up and old along side him and the other greats.

The sound of my life. Simply irreplaceable. Im genuinely devastated ill never get to hear his voice. The BBC bears full responsibility for this. The way he was treated after 40 years was absolutely disgusting. He never recovered from this descision and was too much of a gentleman to complain. He wasnt just a voice on the radio,HE WAS RADIO. Goodbye old friend you will be very very sadly missed.

B. B. C. National and local radio has finally gone down the pan, favourite presenters shown the door to be replaced by presenters who's ego is far greater than their talent. There are hundreds of internet stations out there that play great music, go out and find them and leave the B. B. C. To self implode.

It's ironic that the Beeb are so out o0f touch with the listeners - as Steve's unexpected death shows clearly the type of listeners he had - as in he wasn't just a flavour of the month presenter. In their tributes from very notable people, they've showed how stupid the management were.

I work in the building trade and just can’t work without the radio on , it really feels like losing a close family member, felt the same when Terry wogan passed away ……people that love radio will feel the same I’m sure ….. I wonder if radio presenters know just how much there fans love them …….personally I couldn’t wait for his show to start, just hearing his intro music you knew the next few hours were gonna gonna be great fun…….
