Thank you so much for this. My FBNeo folder in EmulationStation was an unwieldy beast of duplicate filenames, so I basically didn't even bother with it most of the time. Now it's perfect. Scraping next, which is sure to take an eternity, but that's OK. :) Keep up the great work!

European versions are usually the parent ROMs, as tend to have the same refresh rate as USA, less chance to have censorship, less ads (winners dont use drugs, etc.), and more language support through dipswitches. Having USA prioritized over EU it's a bit odd...

You would have to go through each individual ROM to fish out the ones that are 50 fps PAL. Censorship is a crap shoot between countries, no one is "better".

@@jayhovah5621 Arcade machines aren't like consoles, the display its bundled with hardware, so the european versions runs as same framerate as us roms... (except very small exceptions). EU ROMs, are in general, the better versions in Arcades, thats why those are the parent ROMs in mame all these years..

Honestly speaking, I think you're probably right. I did this I did this 1G1R on my FBneo library about 8 months ago (before making this video) and haven't yet encountered any busted games...yet. so for now, I've not yet felt any impact of losing any revisions

The parent rom isn't necessarily the earliest revision though, in fact it's usually the most commonly used one or the one preferred by the emulator dev. Let's say revision B is the more popular one and it's designated parent, so revision A might then be a clone.

I gave this a crack but some roms still don't work on RA. They give the generic warning that files are missing. I started with the Full non-merged set too. Have no issues on the standalone emulator with some of those titles but RA just doesn't seem to work.

@@Reyas Garou should work in RetroArch. I think I used a non merged set. Be careful which version you're keeping of a ROM. Most versions of a game in FBNeo are like patch files to the parent ROM. The Parent ROM is the one you want to keep. You'll notice as the file size of the parent ROM is much larger too.

MAN this is long winded. Isn't there an easier process than this? I only have 7 games, but I am guessing you will have to go through all this process again if I want to add anymore. There has to be an easier way, surely. Doesn't RetroArch have a better solution?

So let me get this straight: you put in extra effort to still end up with a number of ROMs that's overwhelming (thousands is too much to to be able to sift through manually) and didn't even check to see which revision of the game was best before deleting the others? Yikes. You either curate a list or you don't. Humans haven't made a thousand good games since they started making video games. Doing it like this is just the worst of both worlds. You end up with tons of duds you'll never play and end up missing some revisions you might actually want to keep around. The japanese Punisher is the best version of the game, and you probably deleted it. Whatever.

I think this guide is more about trimming large romset. Some romsets are extremely large in size (60 to 70 gb). This process will cut down the size significantly

Hi Bob Sagat, you make a fair point and I hear what you're saying. The process I've described in the video isn't designed to be the 'definitive' method. I like to think it's one of 'many' methods that a person can use for their ROM set. I'm hoping people in the community can build on and improve the process (hopefully)
