At first you hate them, then you deal with them and finally as you age you miss the grey bastards. If you have ever sailed the seas. It will be with you till the final muster in Valhalla.

Agree about the hate, the deal then love them in a convoluted way.

Are bagpipes related to onions? Sad to see the end of any ship. Cheers, Mick.

Was the Hobart scrapped, or sold? Would have been nice to have it as a floating Naval museum here in the city it was named after. We're too keen on just discarding things, or only looking at the "economic" value.

She was purposely prepared and scuttled off Rapid Bay (Yankalilla Bay) South Australia as an artificial reef on 5 November 2002. Some 21 years later the "Grave of the Green Ghost" is a magnificent living artificial reef full of sessile marine growth (sponges, ascidians etc) and a vast array of southern fishes. It is a marine sanctuary (no fishing zone) and provides divers with a world class diving experience in its continuing afterlife. It is a sunken naval museum and only costs the state replacement vessel and navigation moorings every few years.
